About this property

The Sea Sanctuary - Beachfront Stunning Newer Home - Hot Tub

This magnificent custom designed home - The Sea Sanctuary - is situated just a hundred yards from the sand with 180 degree whitewater views. A seal colony can be found 1/2 mile to the south and exceptional tidepooling can be found within another 100 yards. A bike/walking trail runs along the ocean as well. Enjoy a solitary walk along the beach - in fact you could walk for miles and miles in secluded exploration of beach and sandy dunes. Radiant floor heat and a fireplace can make this rental extra cozy in the winter. And the insulating concrete form construction keep the house pleasantly cool on warmer summer days. Elevated decks both front and rear allow for enjoyable outdoor living as well. A Jacuzzi-brand hot tub sits on the front deck from which you can watch and listen to the ocean's roar, see the pelicans glide by, and at night watch thousands upon thousands of stars.

The home provides a wonderful holding space for many kinds of groups including:
- friends looking for a place to get away to to have quality time hanging out, playing games or going on adventures
- multi-generational groups who need ease of safe beach access (no cliffs, just an easy stroll down to the sand) and easy outdoor distraction to help keep kids off their "devices."
- families looking for easy time together on holiday where great meals can be shared, board games/puzzles can be enjoyed and easy relaxing outdoor time is readily available.

To take advantage of the 180 degree view, the main living area in the house is on the 2nd floor, including the master bedroom, kitchen, living room and den, all with gorgeous bamboo floors. The window seat - the most popular spot in the house - is great for intimate conversation or reading a book (the house has a great library by the way). The wall-mounted flat screen TVs (upstairs in the den off the living room and downstairs in the larger open room are both roku enabled for connecting to your favorite store, ing services. The double doors on the den close, keeping the viewing noise from infiltrating the peacefulness of the rest of the house. One or two people can sleep privately on the den's new higher end memory foam pull-out sofa sectional.

A gourmet custom granite and bamboo kitchen with double oven, All-Clad Cookware, dishwasher, Kitchen Aid mixer, InstantPot, VitaMix blender, 4-slice toaster, drip coffee maker plus french press, pressure cooker, salad spinner, pizza stone, baking pans and sheets, serving platters, and other kitchen items make cooking or baking a joy for small or larger groups.

Downstairs, you enter through the slate entry area to find a photography gallery/carpeted open yoga/exercise area which includes a second new high-end memory foam sleeper sofa sectional for yet another sleeping spot if needed. It's also a great place for kids to play if you want them to have their space separate from the rest of the group. The primary downstairs bedroom has a wonderful view facing out to the ocean. The Japanese-style tatami room, with a flooring of 2" thick traditional tatami mats serves as a wonderful bedroom as well. The sliding shoji screens with laminated rice paper close off the room and an additional sliding external curtain provides an additional degree of privacy.

The Sea Sanctuary is truly a beautiful home which can help to make your vacation by the sea very relaxing and extra memorable.

To sum up, there are many sleeping options:

Upstairs
- Bedroom - California king bed
- Den/TV room - Queen size new memory foam pull-out sleeper sectional sofa. Roman blinds drop over the grass double doors to provide privacy
- Fireplace nook off the living room (not a private space) - queen futon w extra cushion topper

Downstairs
- Bedroom - queen bed w memory foam topper
- Tatami Bedroom - queen bed memory foam mattress
- Yoga/exercise/play area - (open common area) - new high end queen sofa sectional memory foam sleeper; small single futon, and another folded up frameless queen futon pad stored under the single futon

The home is lived in for part of the year by the owner. You'll find the refriegerator cleared out completely except for one pull out drawer which contains some perishable food . The benefit from this is that the kitchen is extremely well stocked. The step-in pantry (with 2 full shelves kept clear for your use) has items which might prove useful to you if you need a pinch of this or that in preparation of your own gourmet meals. A large drawer of well labeled spices awaits as well.

A lot of love and care has gone into the design, construction, furnishing and maintenance of this wonderful home.

Absolute Serenity

I took my parents and daughters to the Sea Sanctuary for respite and exploring and we were blown away. The house was incredibly thoughtful...everything served a purpose. The views were remarkable, both front and back, and everything, every morsel of the home was thoughtfully placed. It felt enveloping and warm, and the communication with oir host was just perfect. Also.... the kitchen.... just my favorite place ever. We can't wait to come back next summer.

Indescribably amazing!!!!

I cannot rave about this property and the owner enough! It was better than pictured and truly a sanctuary. The owner was quick and proactive with their communication. The home is well supplied and thoughtfully designed. We did need to do some minor cleaning - there was sand on the furniture and some cobwebs and spiders, but given that it's a beach house, this wasn't unexpected. It's clear that the owner tries to keep the house clean. Without hesitation I can say that my family and I would definitely stay here again.

Good location and great beach

The beach was great. The house was ok. There were two befrooms in addition to the master and a sleeping futon in a separate room. The house had sand everywhere but after quite a lot of hoovering it was reasonably clean. Kitchen and master br are upstairs which made for a great view but a bit of a climb with groceries. The kitchen was well equipped. Fort bragg had two shops, Safeway and an another one, I have forgotten the name but it was a really good one, definitely to recommend. Otherwise a nice little town.

Stunning ocean views

My family recently stayed at this home and the views are simply breathtaking. We loved walking the beach and seeing the birds and seals. The home had plenty of space to spread out and the kitchen was stocked with everything you need to cook a meal. The owner was very responsive throughout the booking process. The location was convenient, quiet and only a few minutes drive away from downtown Ft. Bragg. Our only feedback would be that this home needs a thorough cleaning. It was surface clean but there were a ton of cobwebs and the light fixtures were very dusty. Kids handprints on the fireplace and windows. Given the price, this should not be the case.

Excellent house and location

Beautiful home with lots of natural lighting. House is right across the street (not busy at all with few houses on the block) from the beach and a walking/biking trail that goes all the way to the southern end of Fort Bragg. Good forest hiking and paddle boarding nearby. Big River was a great place to paddleboard; you can go several miles upstream from the ocean. Saw river otters there. The upstairs at the house has a window nook, a day bed and a loft which all offer great views of the ocean across the street. Great spot to view sunsets over the ocean, especially from the hot tub. Also liked the fresh lettuce growing in planter boxes in the upstairs decks. Overall, highly recommend.

Beautiful Sea Sanctuary

Our host, Ted was a GREAT guest communicator. He responded to my emails within the hour and with very positive responses. Now for the Sea Sanctuary...it was all that I was hoping for. We walked into the downstairs (what could have been a small apartment with the exception of no kitchen) living space equipped with two private separate bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a large living/family room equipped with an embedded TV. The second level entry leads to a 3-tiered staircase (3-stairs on each tier) which leads you to the full living space. As we approached the 2nd. level of the home, there was a wood-burning fireplace that was viewable in 3-separate directions. 1-facing the hallway/staircase, 2-facing the (what I would call) a reading room, and 3-facing the dining room/kitchen/ the home went on and on from there...including a TV/den, a 1/2 bath, and en suite with a full ocean view and for that matter, almost the entire 2nd. the level had a full ocean view. The kitchen was, in my opinion, a chef's choice (and I am an avid cook & baker). We enjoyed our Thanksgiving Dinner & Dessert prepared in this kitchen along with leftovers throughout the (5) days we spent there. Moving along to the location in Cleone, (the city in which the home/beach are located in (2-miles outside the city limits of Fort Bragg). The beaches were amazing. Each night we were able to catch the high tide (we checked the times online) at dusk so the waves were huge and loud and just what I had hoped for. I can't say enough great things about this home and its location. If you think Fort Bragg doesn't offer a great setting...think again. I must also mention the Noyo Harbor Tavern located directly on the Noyo River. It was fabulous both the food and it's the ambiance. We ate Dinner and Lunch there the next day it was that good. Also, the downtown shopping is lovely. Lots of galleries with one-of-a-kind pieces, most of them created by local artisans. And, the drives along the coast were breathtaking. Just a wonderful home to stay in with a lot to do, great dining-out options. I am a "suites at the Ritz or Four Seasons" lady. I realize that there is no Concierge/on-hand customer service however, I would rate the overall time we spent there a 9.5 out of 10 for its overall beauty, home & fun things to do/great dining-out too. Peaceful, joyful girls trip.

Rented sea sanctuary for a girls trip. After this crazy year, 7 of my (fully vaccinated) girlfriends and I needed a get away. The name really does say it all. The house is beautiful. Big enough for everyone to have their own space but come together when we wanted to. The spacious fully stocked kitchen meant we could have great dinners together around the big kitchen table. The spa and the sunsets were gorgeous. The location was great for our daily activities. We hired a driver to take us wine tasting in the Anderson Valley (highly recommended that too). We road the skunk train and rail bikes. We hiked, we shopped… there is also a great sound system that meant we danced & laughed a whole lot. I will probably rent this place again in the future. It was a great get away. Everything was easy and enjoyable. Ted the host was easily accessible & very helpful. I highly recommend Sea Sanctuary.

Soul Lifting Experience

This gorgeous home was medicine for the spirit! The home is not only high quality throughout, but infused with a sense of peace & positive energy. The kindness of the owner, Ted, to allow visitors to enjoy his personal art and beautiful book collection is extraordinary! The home invites the enjoyment of fun activities as well. The dining table is large and great for meals and game playing. 2 TV’s in separate locations allows for some people to view if wanted, while leaving the main common area a place for solitude or music. (Bring your smart phone music app to sinc to the home’s Bose speakers) Beautiful views of the ocean from almost every vantage point. The hot tub was enjoyed every single night with its colored lights and ocean view! A short walk right down to the beach was a dream. I honestly never thought I’d be able to enjoy a home from which I could literally be on the beach in minutes! Shell finding in the morning and lots of lively tide pools made it such fun! Our guest who was “the chef” for our visit just loved the well stocked pantry of dry ingredients and spices. There are even vegetables growing on the back deck with instructions for “helping out” by watering. I just loved that! It felt so homey. The owner Ted, also invites you to enjoy eating from them as well. What a nice touch. There were plenty of towels as well as washer & dryer to keep up with them if you bring a large group. (We had 7 people). This home just invites you to get silly, get thoughtful, get cozy and most of all, get to the heart of what it means to LIVE! Thank you Ted, for sharing your home with anyone lucky enough to experience it.

Lovely house

We had a great week in this lovely house built and maintained with attention to detail and love. We would definitely love to come back (maybe without as many kids). The views are great and all that separates the house from the sand dunes is a quiet road that only the locals use. This road would be perfect for biking or scooting or tryking since there is very little traffic. It was super easy to walk down to the beach or to the seals. The location is wonderful. The house was seriously immaculate. The house has one combination kitchen dining music living room-great room with soaring ceilings and beautiful views and different places to sit or lie down and snuggle to watch the water. This is where we spent all our time when we were not outdoors. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and organized; it was a pleasure to use. The music area has a piano, a set of drums and other instruments. There are two sets of Japanese-style paper doors which allow noise to go through them: one on the downstairs Japanese-style bedroom which opens up to the yoga-rumpus room, and one on the master bath. You should have a plan for noise and privacy. I felt better using the bathroom when no one was in the bedroom and the kids in the Japanese bedroom couldn’t sleep until people left the rumpus room or were quiet. The good thing is this made all of us go to bed early. There is a wonderful office right off the kitchen that has a super comfy sectional sofa, a desk with an inspiring ocean view, and a tv which we did not use. This room we used as a bedroom and being directly off the great room-kitchen was noisy (please note that we had seven noisy kids with us). The owner was the most gracious owner I have ever communicated with and rents his house as an act of generosity. He even has lettuce and kale that we can pick, and keeps the house perfectly maintained and gorgeous. Because we had kids I temporarily removed some “adult” artwork and some “adult” books which only took a second. The house has original photos and many religious statues which help transport one to a calm place, even with so many kids in the house. This is a jewel of a rental.

Exceeded our expectations

This was our first experience in a VRBO and The Sea Sanctuary was exactly what our family needed. The stunning and clever architecture lends itself to cozy family interactions and it seemed every area of the house had something different to offer. Each room felt like we belonged there and if there is one word I can use to describe our stay it would be "inviting". We are so grateful we were welcomed into the home and we hope we can come back. It was so nice being able to walk to the beach and come back and relax in the home and watch the waves breaking from the living room. The owner is very polite and checked up on us before and during the stay to make sure we had everything we needed. If I could give it more stars I would, and we are already planning our next trip back!

Glorious beach house is true sanctuary!!

Ted calls his home the "sea sanctuary" and it is all that and more. When you enter the home you immediately feel like you have entered another world where no detail of design or decor has been overlooked. I don't know if it says this on the listing but he actually designed and had built the home on his own (yup, we looked it up on zillo because we thought the home was so amazing). From the location right on the beach, to the beautiful (newly opened) boardwalk where you can run, walk or bike ride for miles and miles to the tide pooling (they say the best in all of California) ... it can't be beat. But now I should stop raving because I really want to come back next year and I don't want the place to book up before I get a chance to book!! Thanks so much, Ted. Your home was the highlight of our summer!

Sea Sanctuary

We had a wonderful stay at the Sea Sanctuary! We came to Fort Bragg to celebrate a wedding and we could not be happier with our stay. The house was so beautiful, clean, and inviting. I liked how Ted had labels throughout the house so there was no confusion where to locate an item or how to use electronics or appliances. Ted was able to communicate how to care for his home flawlessly. My family loved the location of the home and my toddlers enjoyed spotting deer, quail, and squirrels in the early mornings. The house was spacious for not only my family of four but my parents and brother as well. I would recommend the Sea Sanctuary to anyone wanting to visit the Fort Bragg area.

About the host

Hosted by Ted Seymour

Host profile image
Many interests including writing, photography, travel, fermentation, songwriting, and healthy food preparation. I love spending time in the home myself too. Such a magical place to recharge, gather with people special to me, and stroll the ever changing beach.

Why they chose this property

I came to this area on a road trip in 1998 and rented a small home just behind the lot where this home is now located. I woke up in the morning and the view included a 'for-sale' sign for this land. I hadn't even been looking to buy something, but it was so beautiful that I panicked and put in an offer that day. The next day, they accepted my offer and the rest is history. I personally designed the home and waited some years before building it myself too.

It is simply a stunning location, very quiet, yet still near to town, endless views to the north and south.

What makes this property unique

Easy beach access - no cliffs to worry about slipping down. About 100 yards or so outside the front door and you are in the sand. The house is very well stocked and maintained as the owner lives in the home for part of the year. There is a piano in the home as well. The open floor plan lets the chefs work their magic in the kitchen while being able to stay connected with the rest of your group.
