175 Acre Riverfront Custom Retreat - The Great River Ranch

The Great River Ranch is a private, 175 acre retreat located high on the bluffs of the Mississippi River.  The property boasts three houses:  
1.  The main house featuring 5 bedrooms, a chef's kitchen, bar, indoor salt pool/spa, 20 seat theater room, 5 fireplaces 
2.  The separate bunkhouse with 5 additional bedrooms, bar and game room 
3.  The original, freshly renovated farmhouse features two extra bedrooms, a beautiful kitchen, bathroom and relaxing fireplace.  NOTE:  The farmhouse is an optional, additional rental - please inquire if you are interested in renting this space. 
There is close access to the Mississippi River as well as your own private stocked pond for fishing and swimming.  Miles of private hiking trails will lead you to Indian burial mounds and stunning views of the river.  Located atop a 500 foot bluff on the Mississippi River you will find many places to relax and enjoy nature and the views.  A huge gazebo invites storytelling and s'mores as you stay warm by the fire pit.  
Travel only 5 miles to the charming small town of Potosi where you'll find shops with locally made goods, ice cream, restaurants and the historic Potosi Brewery. Multiple golf courses and wineries are nearby.  Take a short ferry ride for a unique travel experience that expands your entertainment options across river.  No pets allowed.

Great space for family reunion

Multigenerational family gathering - all enjoyed their time here. A variety of things to do and space for people to have alone time too. The pool was great, and the pond proved to be even more entertaining for everyone.

Amazing family vacation property

We had an amazing weekend with our children and grandchildren at The Great River Ranch! This is a beautiful property that is very well maintained! The host was very friendly, informative and responsive. We enjoyed the indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, outdoor playset, and theater room. It has something to offer for all ages. We look forward to booking this property again in the future.

Ah-maxing, amazing place!

We have a large family… ages from infant to senior… this was PERFECT! So much to do and space for privacy or group activities. First class attention to detail in every corner. So very private and such a beautiful setting. We can’t say enough good things about this little paradise! We’ll be back- a new high bar of accommodations has been set!

Great Getaway

We booked this location for a golf outing/ weekend getaway and had a great time. The location is absolutely stunning. From the pool room, to multiple bars, the theatre room, the firepit, the huge kitchen. We were worried the place was good to be true, and we were glad that it delivered. The property was beautiful, clean, more than enough to meet and exceed all of our needs. Highly recommend!

Family reunion with children and grandchildren

Everyone agreed that this is our favorite Vrbo ever! It was spacious and clean, the kitchen had everything we needed and more. Between the pool, the pond with lily pads and kayaks, and expansive grounds with a play structure for the younger ones, everyone truly had a great time. The few questions we had during the week were answered promptly!

Wonderful Family Escape

My immediate family of 25(parents, siblings, nieces & nephews) truly enjoyed our time at GRR. The bedrooms and amenities were great. There was a lot of pool time and some of the boys walked down to fish on the Mississippi. Two of them caught some good size fish. The 2 electric bikes also got a lot of use by both adults and teenagers. The movie theater was used on two nights. We brought a volley ball net, which got a lot of use, and had a timed relay race challenge with several teams of two, using items brought from home and the kayaks on the pond. Played games and told ghost stories around the outdoor fire at night. When you have teenagers that put down their phones and stay engaged, you know you have found a great place for everyone.

Amazing

Our entire family loved this beautiful, spacious and well maintained home. Our family(ages 1-95) had an amazing 7 days. The kitchen was lovely and provided us with all the essentials needed for big family meals. Both kids and adults had many options to choose for the day. The indoor pool, pond, gazebo, hiking trail and playground were over the top. We had plenty of room for outdoor games and the gazebo was a great place to make our s’mores it just hang out. The kids enjoyed the bunkhouse and the adults loved the rooms and comfortable beds. The home theater was over-the-top amazing for an evening or rainy day show/movie and the throwback Pac-Man arcade game from the 80’s entertained both kids and adults. Chris was great responding to our questions and Katie was the best when helping us through the booking process when Vrbo was having difficulties with securing our reservation. As with any property there were some issues we had to deal with. Wasps, bats(at night) and a couple of mosquitoes but the bats kept them to a minimum. Our family(all 32) of us highly recommend this property. It felt like home. This amazing home(We stayed in all 3) was all we had hoped for and much, much more!

Incredible Rental Property!!!

The Great River Ranch was such a good experience! I have nothing but the best things to say about the property and all its amenities (the movie theater, indoor pool area, bar). The Bedrooms and bathrooms were all extremely nice. The Kitchen area is beyond nice and the view from the property was incredible! The property manager was extremely helpful the whole time (the check in process, communication if any questions, etc.). I would highly recommend!!

Is this really Potosi?

All in all we had a wonderful time at the Great River Ranch. Everyone in our family of 21, from age 1 to 75 enjoyed this vacation retreat a great deal. Comments from various nuclear families reflect the general tenor of our experience: “Terrific” “Gorgeous” “Pretty spectacular” “Clean and comfortable” “Amazing” “Awesome” “Is this really in Potosi?” There were some ‘quibbles’ and ‘wobbles’ (below) but, overall, this is a wonderfully enjoyable property. Particular positives: The owners were responsive to my various questions prior to our visit. Chris, the caretaker, was exceedingly helpful and addressed issues quickly while we were there. There are plentiful and large gathering spaces. The pool is fantastic and the oldest of our group (me) particularly appreciated the whirlpool. The theatre is awesome and became one of the multiple evening gathering places. The game room in the bunkhouse deserves mention, too. Supplies and amenities are outstanding. There are ample towels, huge amounts of dishware and glassware, kitchen utensils, refrigerator and freezer space. There is lots and lots of green space (taken advantage of for our ‘family Olympiad’). The pond was used a lot and the kids, particularly, enjoyed the kayaks and the fishing for bluegills. Use of a UTV was an added bonus. The ‘quibbles’ and ‘wobbles’ The Wi-Fi was down for much of the property for the first 2 days. There were many paper wasp nests on the buildings, including at least 3 active ones. This was a particular worry since one of us has a severe hymenoptera allergy. Chris did his best to take care of these, but concerted attention by a competent exterminator really is needed. There wasn’t a single sharp piece of cutlery in the kitchen; every knife was painfully dull. Many of the bedroom ceiling fans decided to cut out and stop working for unknown reasons. The house is in desperate need of a serviceable broom. Labeling the kitchen drawers would be a help. It took us almost a week to find the cutting boards… None of these was sufficient, though, to substantially affect our great stay here.

Awesome family vacation

Great River Ranch is basically like having your own resort. It is very well appointed and the remodel the main lodge is fantastic. If you’re looking for a great place for a large family reunion or a group vacation, I doubt you can find a better place in this part of Wisconsin.

Dream Wedding with an unforgettable vacation with those we love most!

It is truly a challenge to articulate the perfection of our experience at The Great River Ranch. From the thoughtful, compassionate, incredible owners, the inviting, thorough, responsive manager, to the stunning, both inside and out property and accommodations, this ranch is a true oasis. We had our dream wedding here with our family and a few close friends. Everyone is STILL talking about it. Each room inviting, updated to convey simple elegance and charm. Each of our guests, cozy with all the comforts of home. When it came time for us to go home, my new husband and I had tears in our eyes. It was a true dream come true experience. We have so much gratitude for the owners for creating this incredible VRBO property. Highest of praise and ratings! We will be back many times over and refer it to all we know!
