Cozy Island Park Basecamp Near Yellowstone – Walk to River
Welcome to Caldera Cottage, a cozy and comfortable cabin tucked into the pines of Island Park, Idaho — about 35 - 45 minutes from Yellowstone’s West Entrance and just a short 5-minute walk to the river and neighborhood boat launch.
This is the kind of place people come when they want to spend their days outside exploring and their evenings relaxing under big Idaho skies.
Start your mornings with coffee on the covered porch, spend the day in Yellowstone, fishing the Henry’s Fork, boating the reservoir, or riding the many ATV and snowmobile trails nearby, then come back to the cottage to grill dinner, sit around the fire pit, and watch the stars come out.
Caldera Cottage is a true cottage-style mountain getaway — clean, cozy, and thoughtfully set up for guests who value location, comfort, and outdoor adventure more than large indoor gathering space.
The Space The cottage sits on just under a quarter acre in a quiet Island Park neighborhood right along the edge of the national forest and close to the river.
The home features: • A comfortable living space to relax after a day of adventure • A fully stocked kitchen for preparing meals • A full bathroom with tub and shower • A covered front patio perfect for morning coffee • A small fenced backyard with picnic table and fire pit
Sleeping arrangements: • Loft bedroom with a queen bed and twin bed • Second bedroom with a queen bed
The layout works great for families, couples traveling together, fishing trips, and Yellowstone adventurers.
Outdoor Space One of the best parts of staying here is the outdoor setting. The cottage has a fenced backyard, which is especially nice if you’re traveling with dogs. There’s a picnic table for outdoor meals and a fire pit for evenings under the stars.
You’re also just a short walk to the river and neighborhood boat launch, making it easy to fish, float, or simply enjoy the water.
Location Caldera Cottage is located in the Rancho McCrea area of Island Park, a quiet neighborhood surrounded by forest and close to outdoor recreation. From here you can easily access: • Yellowstone National Park (West Entrance – about 35 - 45 minutes) • Henry’s Fork River fishing • Island Park Reservoir • ATV & snowmobile trail systems • Hiking and forest exploring
Island Park is known for its incredible wildlife, starry skies, and laid-back mountain atmosphere.
Getting Around In the summer, any vehicle will get you around the area. If you enjoy riding trails, many guests bring ATVs or UTVs to explore. In winter, we recommend snow tires and 4-wheel drive, as Island Park receives plenty of beautiful snow. The driveway has two parking spots and can accommodate vehicles, boats, or small trailers.
A Good Fit For Guests Who • Want to explore Yellowstone and Island Park • Love fishing, boating, hiking, or riding trails • Appreciate a cozy, comfortable cabin in the pines • Enjoy quiet evenings around the fire pit
If you’re looking for a relaxed home base for outdoor adventure, Caldera Cottage is a wonderful place to stay while exploring everything the Yellowstone area has to offer.

You guys are welcome back anytime if you are this way! I would love a hug even! :)
My husband, 2 teenage sons, and I stayed here for a summer vacation close to Yellowstone. We had a great time and loved the cottage. We enjoyed hiking, kayaking, and fly fishing. Teara was so helpful and Paige gave us some great recommendations for things to do and see while we were there. We really enjoyed the kayaking with Paige and Teara and would highly recommend it. We will be back!

Liked: Check-in, location
Disliked: Communication
Although this place could have been wonderful, there were many disappointing items. These are my reasons for an Okay rating. There was an excessive amount of unsolicited emails before, during, and after our stay. The kitchen was a bit of a jumble, not leaving any storage space for our food and supplies. Many of the blinds in the house are destroyed. It looked terrible and reduced privacy. The 2 chairs in the kitchen are too tall for the table, so they aren't comfortable to use.The VRBO listing photos are not up to date. There is junk along the garage, hoses running around the yard, and a sprinkler left in the middle of the walkway. The fenced off area beside the garage looks like a junk heap. The backyard seating includes one camping chair, a couple bar height metal stools, and a broken picnic table. And lastly, there were no mentions of the nearby river being low and inaccessible during the time we were there (September).
Ah, where to begin with our enchanting stay at the cottage? It was magical—a true winter wonderland, as if plucked from a cherished storybook. The snow fell gently, cloaking everything in a serene white hush, while the cottage wrapped us in warmth and comfort. The owner was delightful and attentive, responding promptly to any queries, though the cottage was so well-prepared we hardly needed to ask. Its layout was charming yet practical, and the kitchen was wonderfully stocked with everything needed for hearty winter meals. Our days were filled with wonder. We visited West Yellowstone and the captivating Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center. When not exploring, we took lovely walks through pristine snow, marveling at the landscape’s frosty magic.A few tips: a vehicle with four-wheel drive is recommended, as snowplows aren’t always timely. Also, grocery prices in West Yellowstone are a bit higher, so planning ahead can help. All in all, the cottage was a warm haven amid winter’s beauty. We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a serene, storybook escape. Bravo to the owner for this splendid retreat!

Perfect location for adventure and relaxation
Teara is a wonderful host. She is very responsive and assisted our family when plans changed. The property has everything you need to relax, cook a great meal, or a homebase for local adventure. The area is quiet with being easily accessible. The cabin is very spacious, well designed to provide comfort along with privacy. The space was spotless. We also attended her Kayak adventure in the morning which was the most amazing experience we have done as a family in a long time. She is outstanding as a guide and host.

Absolutely beautiful, comfortable, quaint!
Staying in The Caldera Cottage was a dream! Very spacious, a good sized backyard, a grill! We loved staying here. Taera and Andy were so welcoming and willing to meet every need. The house was clean, well put together, and in an amazing spot. It’s far enough away from the city that you don’t have any interference, but not far enough away that you can’t go get the things you need. The beds are PHENOMENAL. I slept better on the beds there than I do at home! You know a company values their clients when they spend money on good beds and good pillows. The cottage is located near several very fun ATV/OTV trails, wildlife is aplenty, and the river is right around the corner. The atmosphere of the cabin and the surrounding area is so serene and calming. I quite literally did not want to come home. It’s also very child friendly! I have 3 children between 9 months and 7 years and they all enjoyed themselves the whole time!

Hi there — I’m a mom, business owner, and lifelong lover of the outdoors. Traveling with my family is one of my favorite things, whether we’re exploring somewhere new or rediscovering places close to home. We’re the kind of people who will stop to read every historical sign, detour for a scenic view, and turn a simple trip into an adventure.
Hosting started because I genuinely love where I live and want others to experience it the way we do. I’m not a big property management company — I’m a hands-on owner who cares about the details and about people having a good, comfortable stay.
My places aren’t “luxury resorts,” but they are clean, thoughtfully set up, and in beautiful locations. I try to give clear, honest descriptions so guests know exactly what to expect — no surprises, just fresh air, cozy spaces, and room to relax.
We’re pretty laid-back, friendly people, and I enjoy connecting with guests while still giving them plenty of privacy to enjoy their trip. If you need recommendations, directions to the river, or just want to know where locals actually eat — I’m happy to share. Thanks for considering one of our places for your getaway. It truly means a lot to our family.
