About this property
35 Carolina Lane Loft Downtown on Historic Alley + One Free Off Street Parking
King & Queen + 2 Full Bathrooms + Fully Stocked Kitchen + 1,300 sq. ft Private Residential Loft + One Free Off Street Parking
Secreted into the heart of the city – an industrial 2-bedroom loft, cloaked within the confines of a one-way alley, long known only to the real Asheville. A block once devoted to agriculture, today ensconced within the multicultural vibe of downtown. A modern-yet-historic, industrial-while-inviting, convenient-but-secluded (as cities go) kind of place.
FAST, LOCAL SERVICE
Customer service is the cornerstone of our business. We know it begins with your very first email and doesn’t stop until you’ve checked out, a smile on your face.
So, here’s our promise: You’re our priority. We want you to have a fantastic time in Asheville and at 35 Carolina Lane. That’s why we’re 100% local – just minutes away, should the need arise! – and almost always available. We respond to any request within 3 hours (and usually, much sooner). We promise, we won’t leave you hanging.
And that means, no vacation rental nightmares. If you’re locked out, we’re there! If the washing machine breaks down mid-wash, we’re there! Or, if you’re just desperate for a restaurant recommendation, we’re also there. Just a call away, whenever you need us.
Bottom line: We know that the details – the big AND small details – are what count. They can make or break your vacation. So, we’re committed. Committed to you and your Asheville experience. (Reviews don’t lie!)
We look forward to welcoming you to Asheville!
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
If you’ve ever wandered through downtown Asheville, then you’ve felt the wanderlust (and “wonder-lust)” of this historic warren.
Here, connecting two of the city’s most sought-after streets – W. Walnut and Woodfin/Hiawassee – Carolina Lane is a quiet (for the city) alley, long known to the real Asheville. This is where Oscar winning actress Frances McDormond conspicuously smoked her cigarettes after a day of filming in the area and industry once reigned. And this neighborhood? Well, it’s still a place where restaurants go unadvertised and the best bars have no signs, just a door. A place where high-end art galleries about record shops, upscale shoe stores, and more.
And, while Real Life may be about compromise – sacrifice This to get That – we believe that vacation should be a special time. A time you get both This and That, no compromise required.
35 Caroline Lane is your no-compromise-required destination: both urban and urbane, situated right in the beating heart of our vibrant city. Enveloped by the energy and excitement of downtown life, 35 Carolina Lane embodies and embraces the Asheville scene – a scene that draws designers and artists, creatives and music lovers, foodies and artisanal beverage aficionados alike.
Here’s what awaits:
Dining: Asheville is a food-and-drink dream – there’s a reason Livability named us a Top 10 Foodie City! – and from 35 Carolina, you’re just minutes to much of your must-eat list, including Rhubarb, Curate, Table, Laughing Seed, Posana, Wicked Weed and Mamacita’s.
Shopping: Royal Peasantry and Earth Magick are one street over, while Honeypot Vintage, the Downtown Asheville Tea Room, and Hip Replacements Clothing, among other must-see shops, are located just around the block.
Urban Trail Art Tour: Art lovers, put yourself right in the center of Asheville’s Urban Trail, a 1.7-mile walking tour home to 30+ stops at creative landmarks, public sculptures, dioramas, and more.
Festivals: From Downtown After Five (once a month, in summer) and the Lexington Avenue Arts Fest, to Drum Circle and Art in the Park, downtown Asheville, Lexington Avenue, and the River Arts District are ripe with arts, culture, and creative pursuits.
Chicken Alley: Stray chickens no longer roam downtown Asheville, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pay a visit to historic Chicken Alley, just behind 35 Carolina Lane.
Unbeatable Downtown Location
You didn’t come all the way to Asheville only to drive to the fun! 35 Carolina Lane is located in one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods, on a one-way alley in the absolute heart of downtown. Your neighbors will be the city’s best shopping, dining, drinking, and culture. Walk score: 91 – a Walker’s Paradise!
Recently Updated, Industrial Chic
Combed-concrete walls, sleek lines, custom artwork, and bold colors – 35 Carolina Lane has been lovingly and carefully updated to deliver on the full Asheville experience: industrial but welcoming, both modern and with a nod to history. (Hey there, antique clawfoot tub. We see you. And we love you!)
Elevated Amenities
From the 60-inch TV (with Apple TV) in the living room and a full washer/dryer to the you’ll-be-deliriously-happy-to-have-it air-conditioning and a fully equipped kitchen (right down to the gas stove and French press), 35 Carolina Lane offers the kind of upgraded amenities rarely found in historic downtown.
ONE FREE OFF STREET PARKING SPACE INCLUDED JUST A BLOCK AWAY , PLUS ADDITIONAL EASY PARKING OPTIONS
You don’t need a car at 35 Carolina Lane but if you bring one, you’ll be happy to know that the included parking space is easy to find a block away, and for additional vehicles nearby parking decks ($20/day max) on Rankin Ave and on street metered are available.

Locally Owned, Locally Managed
There’s nothing like having a local in your back pocket. Unless it’s having an on-call local in your back pocket! From our favorite no-signage spots to late-night emergencies, our 100% local service delivers both a great experience and peace of mind.
This is 35 Carolina Lane. This is a historic and quintessential Asheville loft: Two bedrooms. Two bathrooms. And heaps of history: A aged brick façade. Wizened wood floors. An antique clawfoot tub. Stone underfoot. Heavy old doors. All those oh-the-stories-we-could-tell details you crave.
This is 35 Carolina Lane. This is a thoroughly updated industrial loft, modernized for today’s traveler: Professional design. Combed concrete walls. Custom artwork. Bold colors. Partitioned walls. Modern appliances. A fully equipped kitchen. Both heat and air-conditioning. A dedicated washer/dryer. All those must-haves you expect.
Welcome to a tiny corner of the world where you can have your cake and eat it, too – to a loft where you can surround yourself in history without forgoing modern amenities. Where you can retreat to your own private space while surrounded by one of Asheville’s most sought-after micro-neighborhoods.
Where you can feel at home, in your away-from-home. Welcome!
ONE FREE OFF STREET PARKING SPACE INCLUDED JUST A BLOCK AWAY , PLUS ADDITIONAL EASY PARKING OPTIONS
When it comes to parking, 35 Carolina Lane could just as easily be name Easy Street: parking here is simple! And that’s exactly how it should be, when you’re on vacation.
You don’t need a car to enjoy downtown Asheville (our walk score: 93!), but if you bring one, here are your options:
Additional Parking Options in Parking Lots & Decks: Both the City of Asheville and Buncombe County operate safe, reliable and inexpensive parking decks. The first hour is free and the full-day rate is just $20, so feel free to leave your vehicle overnight. There are several parking decks, as well as a few paid parking lots – pay from an app, or by space / cash at the kiosk box (ask us for more details, if you need them) – within walking distance of 35 Carolina Lane on Rankin Ave; we’ll send all the details with your booking confirmation.
On-Street Parking: While the road just in front of the loft is a loading zone, shimmy just a few feet toward W. Walnut and you can find on-street parking (per availability). Additionally, there are more than 700 on-street metered parking spaces in downtown Asheville. All meters are for short-term parking (two hours or less, as marked), at a cost of $1.50 per hour. On-street metered parking is free on holidays, Sundays, and every day after 6 pm.
Loading Zones: If you’re arriving via taxi, Uber, or Lyft, feel free to unload in one of Asheville’s dedicated loading zones, limited to 30 minutes (or less, as marked).
This is an urban setting within sight and sound of busy bars, restaurants, breweries and music venues. If you are looking for a completely quiet location at all hours, this may not be a perfect fit for you. Carolina Lane is a one way alley, with very little available parking. There are is a 30 minute loading zone Monday -Friday, 9am-5pm parking spaces within 25 feet of the entrance to the loft. Vehicles should not be parked in a way that prohibit thru-traffic.

About the host
Hosted by Reservationist, Sarah

Growing up Santa Fe, NM I saw a unique blend of artistic community, endless outdoor opportunities, interesting history, beautiful landscapes, and a diverse mix of cultures.
Though far from Santa Fe and a different climate, I arrived in Asheville in the early 90’s to practice Chinese Medicine and felt some of the same elements at play. Asheville was not well known, but you could feel the energy building and the mixture of art, landscape, environment, history and community all coming together. It reminded me of my ‘early days’ in Santa Fe. One of my closest friends was Andy Brokmeyer, who I told for several years that he needed to come to Asheville, as it was a dynamic and exciting place. We were also avid kayakers, and Asheville has been a Mecca for kayaking since the early days of the sport so I knew I could lure him out with the promise of all the great rivers in the area.
He came out ‘for a visit’ and hasn’t left. That was 16 years ago.
Asheville has grown into the most happening place in the region, far beyond my expectations, and has sustained an authentic, community oriented and dynamic quality. Like my dad used to say about few places, it has ‘cultural energy’.

Why they chose this property
Though both Andy and I had done some residential real estate investment and development, Lexington Ave/Carolina Lane was our first move into the commercial side. It was an old building, greatly in need of repair, and was a bit removed from the core downtown commercial traffic. We scraped together what we could and fixed it up, with an eye towards something special in the future.
Now, many years later, North Lexington Ave area is hopping, with restaurants, breweries, bars, tea houses, coffee shops, galleries and wonderful, diverse retail shops right out the door.
And Carolina has been transformed into a blend of funky, hip, and industrial intertwined with lush, upscale design. A mix of style and comfort that is unique and authentically Asheville.

What makes this property unique
Just like Asheville, there’s nothing quite like it.
