Gerton, North Carolina is located in the mountains between Asheville and Lake Lure. The property is on the Florence preserve, one of the only two structures that are part of the original preserve (the original owners donated the 600 acres to the preserve). The Florence preserve is a 600 acre conservation area with lush forest, waterfalls, overlooks and 5 plus miles of hiking. In the small town of Gerton, NC there are other trailheads including Bearwallow mountain, Trombatore Trail, Wild Cat rock and more.
Very close is Chimney Rock State Park, Lake Lure, and Rumbling Bald State Park. There is also mountain biking, fly fishing, kayaking and rafting that is close as well.
Bearwallow provision store is now in Gerton where you can pick up small market needs including local beer, the hours are 10-6. There is a coffee shop open Friday-Sunday in Gerton as well! There are multiple fresh farm to table options close by including Hickory Nut Gap Farm with fresh local meats to dine in or take home and family farm actives on site. There are multiple farms in between Fairview and Gerton to stop and pick up fresh veggies. In Fairview are great local restaurants including The Local Joint, Piazza, Rise Above Bakehouse. And a few breweries, the Whistle Stop Brewing and Turgua. The closest grocery store is 7 miles from the house, on 74-A.

Conveniently located in Gerton NC, with a ~20 minute drive to Asheville. Halfway between Gerton and Asheville is Fairview which has two grocery stores, restaurants and breweries. In the opposite direction of Asheville with a 15 minute drive is Chimney Rock and a little past that is Lake Lure. Both towns have multiple restaurants and attractions.
The Asheville Regional Airport is 18 miles, around 35 minutes by car. Uber and Lyft provider rides from the Asheville airport and Downtown Asheville.

There is a loft with a ladder with a day bed. It has a vaulted ceiling, and most adults can not stand up straight in the loft. It is cozy and comfortable up there.

There is a Keurig with plenty of coffee pods including local coffee!

If you feel chilly in the bedrooms, there are small heaters in each room, but you can also open the door for the air can circulate in and out of the room.

The path outside has lights for at night to be able to see outside.

There are trails outside the back of the cabin to get directly onto the Florence preserve. Just walk out the door and around the back and you’re on a trail alongside a creek!
No parties or smoking allowed.

Up to 2 dogs are welcome to stay at the Konatoga! Please add the dog to your booking and it will adjust your rate- $100 for one dog and $150 for two dogs for the entire stay! The pet fee only adds $100 so if you do have two dogs, I will need to adjust for the extra $50. (We are working on the honor system and are asking you are honest about bringing a pet, this effects cleaning) You are required to clean up after your dog in the yard. Please dont leave your dog unattended in the house.

Booked guests. You must include how many guests will stay at the Glenna. (Again, this is on the honor system, we are asking that you include how many guests will be staying, this effects cleaning as well) There is an additional fee for over 2 guests. $20 per guest after 2 guests. Air b n b automatically includes that automatically when you book.

Please note that we pay our cleaners a fair living wage, 100% of the cleaning fee goes to them. Their duties include all the cleaning, the laundering, balancing the hot tub, garbage collection and more. Thank you for understanding and supporting our cleaners.

A little extra room close to home!

We live in Gerton and rented this cabin for family visiting from out of town. They loved their stay and my Mom especially loved the sound of the creek chuckling nearby. Cabin was immaculate and had all the tools in the kitchen to cook family meals. Clear instructions on how to use the all the amenities. We will be rebooking in the future, thanks Larry and Courtney!

Great cabin and location

Hard to find fault with this cabin. Very well equipped with everything we needed and best location of any place we have stayed, next to a nature reserve and stream. Two minor issues 1: it was a bit stressful beforehand as the host did not reply to our messages by email or phone until two days before where we had to call Vrbo and get a different phone number. We were worried we would not get the PIN code in time for the door. 2: the vacuum cleaner stunk out the whole cabin when we used it. Otherwise it was perfect and we would be happy to return!
