Ty Viviana - Charming 19th century home nearby St-Malo, Cancale & Mont St-Michel
This charming and typical Breton house is one of the oldest in the commune of Le Vivier-sur-Mer and is located just 300 metres from the coastline of Mont Saint-Michel Bay. Le Vivier-sur-Mer – as its name suggests – is known for its mussel and oyster farming. Its exceptional geographical location between Saint-Malo, Cancale and the legendary Mont Saint-Michel – a UNESCO world heritage place - makes it an ideal destination for a first-class cultural and tourist trip.
When we visited it for the first time, we fell in love with it immediately: in particular, the spacious and cosy living room, equipped with a modern pellet stove, framed by the old fireplace and its original ceiling with exposed beams, won us over straight away.
To preserve this cosy atmosphere and emphasise the welcoming character of the house, we furnished the living room with a large corner sofa and an eight-seater dining table. The soft light provided by lamps, some of which are antique, enhances the wooden ceiling and rustic stone walls in the living room and in the passageway to the kitchen at the back of the house.
Little reminders of the sea and faraway countries can be found throughout the house: paintings and photos, small pieces of furniture and other decorative objects, all chosen to demonstrate that the sea and maritime life are close by.
The large kitchen at the rear of the house with its own entrance is fully equipped with high-end appliances: five-burner hob, Miele dishwasher, Whirlpool multifunction oven and Samsung microwave. In addition to a breakfast nook with a coffee machine, kettle and toaster, there is plenty of space for food on the shelves and in the fridge/freezer. The kitchen cupboards also contain all kinds of pots and pans, cutlery, crockery and glasses for at least eight people.
A small laundry room with a Bosch washing machine is located next door, behind the curtain. Laundry baskets and racks as well as various cleaning utensils are available there.
Everything you need for your seafood platters is also provided: a large lobster pot, oyster knives and the necessary tools to prepare delicious meals. There are, of course, specialised shops, fishmongers and grocery stores throughout the bay and at the markets (Tuesdays in Le Vivier, Saturday mornings in Dol-de-Bretagne). We also have the ports of Le Vivier-sur-Mer and Cherrueix a few hundred metres away, where local mussel farmers sell their mussels directly, and the oyster market in Cancale.
The four-bed dormitory for children and the master bedroom with a double bed on the first floor have electric shutters (as does the ground floor).
For your comfort, there is also a bathroom with a washbasin, corner bath, toilet and separate shower, all equipped with high-end fixtures and fittings.
Another wooden staircase leads to the spacious master suite under the roof. The railing around the staircase, the rustic beams and the porthole lamp will quickly immerse you in the maritime atmosphere. A second bathroom with a large shower cubicle, double washbasin and toilet extends the master suite, complete with a large dressing area, towards the rear of the house.
Back on the ground floor, the terrace, protected by wooden walls and equipped with night lighting, invites you to spend beautiful evenings in a relaxed atmosphere around a barbecue.
Free fibre optic internet access is available throughout the house. The associated QR code is located under the large television screen in the living room.
A private parking space is available in front of the old barn. The space just behind our house, in front of the kitchen, offers another parking option.

In the nearby centre of Vivier sur Mer you will find a grocery with local produce, a supermarket, a bakery, a hairdresser, a pizzeria and several seafood restaurants overlooking the sea.
The area offers many outdoor activities: Hiking, jogging on nature trails, horse riding, fishing, cycling, beach sailing in the neighbouring communes, go-karting, bowling, sailing, swimming in the sea (beautiful sandy beaches 15-20 minutes by car between Cancale and Saint-Malo) or at the AquaMalo sports complex in Saint-Malo.
There are playgrounds and picnic areas with sea views in Vivier sur Mer itself and in the neighbouring villages along the bay.
The typical Breton towns in the area will delight you: Saint-Malo, a former pirate town, and the elegant seaside resort Dinard have their own charm thanks to their history and characteristic architecture.
The nearest town is the medieval-looking Dol de Bretagne. At the Saturday morning market you will find local and natural products, many regional specialities, typical culinary preparations and a nice tourist hustle and bustle.
After that, you will be well prepared to visit the famous monastery Mont Saint-Michel, which is only 25 kilometres from Le Vivier-sur-Mer, is clearly visible from our coast and an absolute highlight of the whole region. It's the second visited monument in France after the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
