About this property

Premier Hostess offering a delightful Farm House (with fenced backyard for the doggies), Barn, Pastures, Corrals and RV Hook Up! All available on 12+ acres located just a HALF MILE up the road from Flintfields park entrance! It doesn't get any more perfect than this!!!

This charming home was built in 1854 and has been beautifully remodeled and fully equipped with all the amenities needed for your convenience and comfort. We cater to our Equestrian friends and have over 10 years of experience in making sure our guests are completely satisfied and feel at home at Rising Star Farm. Master bedroom has a King bed and private balcony. Bedrooms #2 and #3 have one Queen bed each. Home is perched on highest point in four counties with panoramic views in all directions. Peaceful, quiet location, but just minutes to shopping, gas, beaches, golf, casino, restaurants and everything you need.

This historic farm house can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people with 3 bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. There is a fully equipped, spacious kitchen and dinning area with breakfast nook open to a cozy living room with a large smart TV and satellite channels, WI-FI and air-conditioning. Outside you can enjoy spectacular views from the private balcony that is accessible by exterior stairs or from the master bedroom, or use the gas grill to dine out on the deck. Enjoy the morning with a hot cup of coffee on the quiet front porch surrounded by flowers and a huge variety of birds taking turns at the feeders. Your dogs will appreciate the fenced in back yard to run around free from a leash. Scenic views stretch in every direction and there is a large bon fire pit with plenty of wood for family fun and story-telling around a campfire.

This was our private working farm for the past 23 years, and for the first time we are offering the barn and land with the house rental. The barn is non-traditional and very open. It currently is set up with 3 huge stalls, but, could be converted to 5 stalls easily. There are two wooden corrals, 3 pastures on a total of 12+ acres and a small outdoor arena that can be converted to individual corrals with round pen pannels. We also have RV hook up on site for electric and water. RV site, barn and pastures may be rented for additional fees negotiated at time of booking the farmhouse, based on number of horses and needs.

We love the Traverse City and Elk Rapids areas and can make some great recommendations for things to do, places to eat and must see locations during your stay with us.

We are located approximately a 1/2 mile north from the entrance to Flintfields Horse Park, home of Traverse City Horse Shows, Great Lakes Equestrian Festival and the American Gold Cup series. We specialize in accommodating trainers, barn owners and competitors during the summer, and tourists and families in the shoulder seasons. For our equestrian guests, we also have the potential to offer extra pasture space to give your equine partner a quiet place to stretch, graze and relax before the next competition. Please don't hesitate to inquire if interested in taking advantage of this unique offering. We offer a 5% discount for all reservations made for 30 days or more, and 10% for any reservations 8 weeks or longer.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire home with exception of the basement and a locked storage room. The fully stocked kitchen will have all the appliances, dishes, pots and pans needed to prepare meals. Featuring granite counter tops, hard wood floors, stainless steel appliances and custom cabinetry. Our generous amenities include coffee, tea, reverse osmosis filtered water, snacks, all the fixing for making s'mores, common spices and condiments are provided, in addition to paper towels, toilet paper, kleenex, soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturizing lotion, first aid supplies, extra toiletry items, linens and towels, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, extra blankets and pillows. Laundry room is equipped with washer and dryer and large utility sink. In addition, a gas grill is available on the deck, as well as lawn furniture and a large bonfire pit with plenty of free wood for your use. Guests are welcome to walk around the property and enjoy the scenery.

Other things to note
The farm house was built in 1854 and has a rich and interesting history. It has been fully renovated in recent years, however, there are some quirky little things about the house that require a certain amount of appreciation for old things. This is a non-smoking, dog friendly home, and a working farm. Owners live just a few miles away and will be onsite several times a week to water flowers and fruit trees and tend to other chores around the property. We pride ourselves on offering spotless clean accommodations and go above and beyond normal protocol for enhanced cleaning recommendations to ensure your safety and peace of mind. We leave additional cleaning supplies in the house for your use and offer additional cleaning services throughout your stay as requested after your arrival.

Breathtakingly beautiful
We stayed last weekend-myself, my husband, my parents and our 2 children ages 5 and 7. We are not equestrians- we just wanted to stay near Traverse City is all. We had NO and I mean NO idea what a treat we were in for. This place was like out of a movie, magical really. This review is not going to sound like my typical Florida vacay stays because this was the first time I have ever been so surprised by a stay. I had NO idea we were staying on like equestrian row, or people practiced for the Olympics on the street we were on. I just had no idea this place was going to be so incredibly breathtaking, and I was going to brush my teeth looking out at a lite morning mist down rolling hills and gorgeous horses right out the door. I have never stayed on such a beautiful property. I have stayed in beautiful vacay homes in several states but not on acreage and with animals. It literally made us want to move on this street. My kids begged not to go home. The house is spacious and COZY. So clean you couldn’t find a speck of dust anywhere. Every amenity.. I mean everything. The beds were so comfy. I always have trouble sleeping everywhere or my back hurts and the beds were perfect. We actually liked spending so much time at this home, we didn’t want to do our actual vacation!!!! For real! We spent way less time in the city than planned and we had plans to see sights all around the area we skipped because the property and home and bonfires and s’mores was so fun and cozy. Instead of going to dinner like we planned one night we ordered the BEST pizza and stayed in and hung out outside with the animals. My kids took a bath and ran outside to say goodnight to the horses and it was just the sweetest. Do I need to end this with I highly recommend? Lol. We will be back and reserving early. Oh and the owners were the nicest people, instant communication, accommodating, and they live close by. The owner you can tell just cherishes the property and all her animals. My daughters favorite horse was Shiloh, and that horse is so sweet! We are so happy to have found this place and made amazing memories and plan to make more! This place was a slice of heaven.

A very special place!
We can't say enough wonderful things about this property! Everything with the house itself was amazing. The owners are very thoughtful with everything provided to make for a wonderful stay. Plenty of kitchen and bath supplies plus comfortable beds and furniture. Our favorite part of the stay was definitely visiting with the horses, the goat and the barn cats! The owners stopped by daily to do their farm chores so getting to visit with them and get recommendations on places to visit was great also. Loved our stay and hope we can make it back for another visit someday. We would definitely stay here again!

About the host

Host profile image
We purchased this old farm house in the spring of 2000, shortly after moving from Las Vegas, NV. The home had not been renovated since the mid 1960's so needed a major overhaul when we moved in. Almost everything has been replaced or restored from the original home built in 1854. This home has a long and fun history, and for many years was known as Gobbler's Knob, due to it being perched on the highest point in 4 counties and being a turkey farm for many years.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this home and the property from the minute we pulled in the drive way to look at it. The house needed a lot of work, but the land came with Million Dollar Views! The neighborhood is safe and quiet and home to some of the best people in America! We love our neighbors and the sense of community shared throughout the Traverse City/Williamsburg region.

What makes this property unique

Our farm is uniquely situated just to the north of Flintfields Horse Park, home of the Traverse City Horse shows, Great Lakes Equestrian Festival and the American Gold Cup shows. You can walk, ride a bike, golf cart or ride your horse between the park and our home. We are located about equal distance to Traverse City, Elk Rapids and Kalkaska. There are so many attractions and things to do and see in our area, and if you want to venture a little further, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Torch Lake, Leelanau's famous Fish Town, and Mackinac Island are all within a short driving distance and make wonderful day trips.
