About this property

10 Acre Private Estate, Covered Hot Tub, Heated Pool, Xfinity Broadband,

Lumber Baron Family Retreat is a private 10 acre estate property formerly operated as the Seymour House Bed & Breakfast. Now exclusively available for family vacations and other family gatherings, the estate is located between the Lake Michigan resort towns of South Haven and Saugatuck just half a mile from the Lake Michigan shoreline and a 12 minute drive either North or South to the beaches. Professionally managed by nearby owners who are deeply experienced in the hospitality industry. Families love Lumber Baron Family Estate as you can see from its seventeen 5 star reviews in it's first few years of operation!

The property features an ornate brick Italianate-style mansion built by William H. Seymour in 1862 and remains one of the finest homes in the area. Also on the property is a two bedroom guest cabin, a one acre stocked pond, wooded nature trails, a heated pool with sun deck, hot tub and fire pit. Xfinity wireless broadband throughout.

LAKE MICHIGAN BEACHES & WATERFRONT PARKS: Lake Michigan beaches and waterfront parks are abundant and very close by. The house is located just a mile from the Casco Beach and Preserve. A ten minute drive to the South takes you to the famous South Beach and South Haven Lighthouse. Ten minutes to the North takes you to Oval Beach Saugatuck, ranked nationally among the top 10 US beaches. And the 400 acre VanBuren State park is just 12 miles away and features beautiful waterfront sand dunes.

HISTORY: The Seymour’s were prominent lumber barons as well as prosperous peach farmers and bankers. The estate was once a commercial peony farm and 50 years later, one can see peonies blooming in the surrounding woods beyond the present property. For the last 30 years the home was operated as a luxury inn.

Spacious home with a lot of character for a family reunion
We had a 20+ person family get together at this very beautiful former estate turned B&B turned VRBO. We loved that almost every room had its own bathroom, double fridges and dishwashers, plenty of plates and cups etc. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub, two BBQ grills made grilling dinner easy, the backyard was a great place for young and old alike to run around and play. The fire pit was perfect for campfire stories and s’mores. The host, Michael, was very responsive to our requests and issues. Just know that of the listed number of rooms, 2 rooms and a bathroom are separate from the rest of the main house in a cabin about 100yrds away on the same property, about a 3 minute walk from the back door. Overall, I’m sure everyone would have loved to stay longer and enjoy the house.

Birthday Celebration
We had an amazing week at this lovely home. Kitchen was well equipped, ample seating for dinners and snacks. The weather cooperated so we were outside on the patio most of the time. The children fished and swam, really enjoyed the paddle boat. Pool was perfect to cool off in. A nightly fire rounded off a perfect day. Located short distances from South Haven and Saugatauk. My 4 yr old grandson came into the house and exclaimed "I just love this house!" It doesn't get better than that.

Wonderful family vacation
This property is beautiful and well cared for. The house is beautiful and well appointed in every way. Our family loved fishing in the pond, and the paddleboat, swimming in the pool, the hot tub and sitting around the fire pit. Kitchen was well equipped. Close to shopping and grocery. We loved wandering around South Haven and Saugatuck. Michael, the property manager was responsive and helpful. This is a perfect spot for a family vacation.

Family reunion at the Seymour House
We held our annual family reunion at the Seymour house and had a wonderful time. The house is cozy and comfortable with plenty of room for everyone. The pool and hot tub were a huge hit and the property is large enough for the kids to play soccer and other games.

Saugatuck Management is a vacation property management company with highly rated large family vacation rentals along the Lake Michigan shoreline and two vacation resorts in Michigan and Florida.

We specialize in large properties that can accommodate grandparents, their adult children and many grandchildren. We select properties with large kitchens and large dining areas both inside and outside so families can gather to make and share meals.

Why they chose this property

While this property was only very recently acquired it has accommodated guests as a Bed and Breakfast for decades. Our plan is to use the winter months to open and combine the kitchen, butler's pantry and laundry rooms into a much large kitchen with two sinks, two dishwashers, two ranges, two ovens, two microwaves and two refrigerators. We intend to add an addition onto the back of the house to offer an second pool which will be indoors for use during the cooler months of the year.

What makes this property unique

Our unique benefits include fencing and extensive private grounds for great safe family experiences.
