About this property

Historic 1850's Home, private ground floor and backyard.

My Dad Jack (THE Jack of Jack's Outback restaurant up the street) was a local historian, and was bosom buddies with local artist Edward Gorey, so the decor is little gorey momento/local history archive.
The house was built in 1850, features beautifully restored vintage pine floors and original creaky everything. The house was remodelled into a two family dwelling - so there is one unit per floor, once inside the main front door - the small front entry room has two doors, one into the ground floor unit and one to the upstairs that is my studio.
I split my time between living upstairs and another house just up the road - so renting this place gives you the whole ground floor of this beautiful little 1850s olde cape codde house (a great private back yard garden with an outdoor shower and clothes line to dry your essentials in the sea breeze) in one of the coolest little villages on cape. The amazing Edward Gorey House Museum, Inaho Sushi, Paranassus Books, Design Works giftshop, Yarmouth Historical Society nature trails and Captain Bangs Hallet House museum, Audubon Trails, northside beach or fresh water pond swimming, Jack's Outback for breakfast and lunch and The 1696 Old Yarmouth Inn for dinner are all just steps away, and offer the best eating, shopping, nature walks and museuming you could ever want. You honestly could stay here all week, not get in your car and have a totally great vacation.
If you do want to get in the car, Yarmouthport - located centrally in the mid cape is the perfect spot to explore from as nothing is too much of a drive away.

Cape Cod

The host, Dianna, was the best. She gave us a history lesson on the town. Advised the best places to go for a walk, have dinner and of course where the best breakfast in town is served. A+ for Dianna

Authentic Cape Cod home with artistic flair

This is a really cool but older house. The listing and pictures are accurate, there is no dishwasher, dryer, or TV. We didn't use wifi but friends said it worked well. The kitchen is lovely with 2 skylights and a door leading to a sweet and private backyard. The outdoor shower is excellent and there is a hose there as well, both are nice when returning from the beach. There is also a newer shed to lock your bikes and other gear. The living room and bedroom have beautiful original flooring, the bedding was new and of nice quality. The bathroom is good size with a nice shower. This is a great location especially if you want to go to bayside beaches. We really enjoyed the beautiful bike ride to Grey's Beach, there is a sidewalk for miles along this stretch of 6A, but it was easy and much more fun to navigate the back roads between 6A and the beaches. There is a great network of trails around Grey's beach and at low tide you can cross over to Chapin Beach and miles of sand. Massachusetts Audubon lands which is another incredible place nearby, has a few miles of trail and opening to the bay. As for restaurants, Grille 43 (our favorite) and Old Yarmouth Inn are within walking distance. Jack's Outback is nearby and a great spot for breakfast. There are several other restaurants as you head towards Dennis and Brewster. In the other direction, Barnstable is a 2.5 mile drive or walk along 6A. Nirvana has excellent coffee along with baked goods and sandwiches to go. Buttercup is excellent for a sit down breakfast. Barnstable Market is also very nice. In the past years we have stayed at several VRBO locations and although Dianna is new to this she was an outstanding host. She loves Yarmouthport and really wants her guests to enjoy their stay. We stayed for a month and will return.
