About this property

Full Ocean Views, Beautiful Sunsets, Ocean Breezes, Comfort = Awesome Vacation

Kihei was spared from the fires that burned Lahaina. We still have beautiful beaches, good restaurants, great sunsets and Maui's wonderful weather.

A-302 is a spacious, comfortable two-bedroom/two-bath condo with a newly remodeled complete well-equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, high speed WiFi and 2 TVS in the A Building of the Haleakala Shores complex across from Kamaole III Beach Park. The kitchen was remodeled during the summer of 2023 and reconfigured so that you can work at the sink and look out to the ocean. The countertops are granite and the cabinets are all new with corner Lazy Susan turntables for better storage. The dishwasher, garbage disposal and side-by-side refrigerator are all new. There are three choices for coffee -- a regular coffee maker with metal pot, a Keurig (we have pods for you) and a latte machine. We also have an electric kettle for hot water to make tea or use in other ways. There is an air fryer, a slow cooker, a rice maker and many other special kitchen items. We also have a wine rack and wine chiller.

The dining table has seating for six. It is located near the windows for a view of the ocean and the lanai. There are more than enough plates, glassware, utensils and serving dishes for you to have guests for dinner.

There are 50 feet of windows plus the lanai for full ocean viewing. Kamaole III Beach Park is across the street and then there is the ocean. We often see dolphins and turtles as well as the Humpback Whales in the winter months.

The three recliners and plenty of other chairs, a desk with a printer and good fans with overhead lights add to the comfortable homey feeling. There are also air conditioners in the main bedroom and the main central area. Both bathrooms have walk-in showers and there is lots of storage. The table and comfortable swivel chairs on the lanai provide a great place for your morning coffee or tea, breakfast, lunch, dinner or pupu and cocktails. The outside closet has chairs for the park or beach and a beach umbrella. Coolers and a picnic bag with plates, cups, cloth napkins (paper napkins can blow away), flatware, knives and other useful items are located in the guest closet area. We can also arrange for you to use our golf clubs if you wish.

The king bed is super comfortable and that bedroom has access to the lanai. The sofa bed is a queen with extra foam for more comfort.

The unit is ideal for (1.) a single person or a couple with the sitting room set up or (2.) for two couples or a couple with one or two children who can share the sofa bed when it is set up in the sitting room.

Haleakala Shores has a beautiful saltwater pool in a garden setting. There is a newly remodeled pool restroom and ramp that are ADA compliant. There are two gas barbeque grills at either end of the pool area and several tables and chairs for dining under the gazebo and near the grills. There is also a storage area for surfboards, paddle boards and kayaks.

Another amenity is free covered, lighted parking. Our current assigned parking space (#3), is a tandem space allowing for parking two vehicles.

Haleakala Shores is just completing adding a complete photovoltaic system for a more sustainable profile. It utilizes a battery to store energy to provide electricity at night.

Amazing View!!!
Karen and Joe are fantastic hosts. They were prompt with answering all questions and so thoughtful in every way. We came with as a family of 4 with our 2 teenage daughters. We enjoyed our mornings and evening on the Lanai, having breakfast, playing cards and watching the whales. Just amazing! The condo was very clean, spacious, and well equipped with everything we needed. The beds were super comfy. The condo is in a great location across from Kam III beach. We swam and snorkeled there and enjoyed beautiful sunsets. There is so much within walking distance too. We definitely recommend the cinnamon roll place, and Paia Fish market, soo good! I would highly recommend staying here. I know we will again when we return one day. Thank you, Karen and Joe, for your amazing hospitality and thoughtfulness, especially with Larrys birthday and on our departure day. We are so appreciative of everything! Mahalo!!

Amazing Place to Stay in Kihei!
We loved staying in this condo with lovely ocean views from the lanai and the rest of the unit too. We watched the sunset every night and saw lots of whales! It's right across the street from a great beach and in walking distance to several other beaches. It's also in walking distance to shops and restaurants. The location can't be beat. The condo itself is clean and well maintained. It is wonderfully equipped. If you want to cook, you'll have everything you need in the kitchen. That extends to the rest of the place too - plenty of pillows, towels, etc. The beds are both very comfortable (including the pull out). There are books, games, binoculars for the whale watching. If you are looking for something, it will most likely be there! Karen and Joe are great hosts - very responsive and provide great customer service. They also provide lots of helpful information about the condo and the local area in a handy binder. There are so many nice touches, I'm sure I'm even forgetting to mention something! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place for your stay on Maui.

Lovely property, spectacular ocean view
The property was perfect in every way for our family of four. Clean, well provisioned, and incredibly thoughtful touches added by Karen, who is an extraordinary host. Directly across from a great beach and a very short walk to restaurants and shopping. Sweeping ocean views and every comfort you could imagine. Karen has lots of solutions and local knowledge to offer as well.

About the host

Hosted by Joe and Karen Grafe

Host profile image
We traveled to Maui a number of times on vacation and finally moved here from the Chicago area in 2001. Our unit at Haleakala Shores has been our home ever since. Joe was a mechanical engineer who worked in technical sales and Karen was a banker with a large British bank. We both traveled a lot on business but we still loved to take vacations to exotic places and national parks as often as we could. We love cruises, driving vacations and taking flights to interesting countries. However, we kept returning to Maui. Soon after our move we joined the Pacific Whale Foundation as volunteers and then employees. Those years were truly fun retirement years with Joe working as a Marine Naturalist on the boats and Karen working in the gift shop where she could talk to people from all over the world. We have since retired full-time but still love the ocean and ocean life. Seeing the whales and dolphins from our lanai never gets old. The sunsets are spectacular and every so often we see that elusive green flash. We now have two other units at Haleakala Shores. This one, A-302, is a recent purchase which opened for rentals during January 2022. The kitchen was completely remodeled during the summer of 2023. We have rented our other unit, A-308 #337235 since 2011. We think we have learned a lot about being Premier Hosts and believe that A-302 will provide a premier experience for visitors to Maui.

We are looking forward to meeting guests and providing information you might need about activities, sight-seeing, restaurants and, of course, whale tales.

Aloha,

Joe and Karen Grafe

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with our unit at Haleakala Shores for its awesome view and that it is just steps from Kamaole III Beach Park. Unit A-302 is one floor above and also has full ocean views. The sunsets are great. However, we soon learned that there are many other factors that make Haleakala Shores so special. The units are large at 1150 square feet with two bedrooms and two baths. The living area is large and open, but the shoji screens can be closed for privacy in the guest bedroom area. The lanai is approximately 100 sq. ft. and features a comfortable table and swivel chairs for four. It's a beautiful spot to enjoy coffee in the morning or a drink or dinner at night. The people watching is fun and on occasion in the winter a whale comes into view. Pods of dolphins can come by any time of year and there are all kinds of boats to see. A-302 is comfortably furnished with 2 Lazy Boy recliners, another recliner and comfortable chair, a couch that doubles as a sofa bed, a desk work area, a dining table that seats 6, two smart TVs and lots of kitchen gadgets including an air fryer, steamer, electric kettle, a Keurig machine, a coffee maker with an insulated pot that you can take on the lanai, a cappuccino machine and a coffee grinder for those coffee lovers who would like to try our special island coffee blends. Each unit has an assigned covered, lighted parking space. There is an elevator toward the middle of the building. Also, there are usually grocery carts by the elevator for groceries and other items you might need help to carry up. The beautiful saltwater pool is located between the A and B buildings. It has lounge chairs, a lanai area and restrooms. The pool area also has 2 sets of grills, a gazebo with tables for dining and lovely flowers and trees. The surf board hale (house) is located in the pool area near the car wash gate. You can arrange to store boards and kayaks. Not renting a car -- the bus stop is just down the street and restaurants are nearby.

What makes this property unique

The unique benefit of Haleakala Shores is location, location, location! It is centrally located on the west side south shore of Maui which is known for its beautiful beaches. Kamaole III is especially nice with great snorkeling. It also has excellent life guards. Kamaole III is an easy beach for those who don't get to the ocean very often. There are a number of excellent restaurants within walking distance both north and south. Fred's is a great place for breakfast or any casual meal and Cafe O'Lei is great for lunch and dinner. There are many more. Like morning walks or walks along the beach at sunset? You can start out in the beach park and walk south along the ocean for about 4 miles. Sometimes you will be on a path, sometimes crossing the lawn of a condo complex (it's OK the path is marked) and sometimes on the beach. You can choose to go inland and walk on the sidewalks as well. The views are awesome and you may see some turtles or some endangered sea birds that nest along the path. Like to shop (and help the economy of Maui)? The Shops of Wailea to the south is a high end shopping center with restaurants and bars as well. To the north, you will find souvenir shops, casual clothes, made in Maui art and jewelry stores. Want to see the end of the road at La Perouse Bay? It's a beautiful drive with ocean views and views of the lava from the last eruption of Haleakala, which was 300 years ago. It still looks very fresh. The road is narrow but safe if you don't speed. It's about 25 minutes to Maalaea Harbor where you can take whale watching boats or snorkeling trips. We, of course, recommend the Pacific Whale Foundation. The Aquarium is also located in that harbor. It is a great place to learn about the ocean creatures, many of which are found only in Hawaii. Grocery stores such as Safeway, Foodland and Times are just a short drive from Haleakala Shores. Need a manicure or pedicure? Queens Nails is also a short drive down Kihei Road. Location!!
