Spacious Light-Filled Traverse City Home w/ Treehouse, 2 Mins from Lake Michigan
Our downtown Traverse City home is the perfect home base for a summer of adventures -- and the perfect setting for relaxing and entertaining as well.
The home: Brazilian hardwood floors, all-day natural light, high ceilings. Four full bedrooms (three with organic mattresses), plus a fifth convertible room with a new full-sized pull-out couch. Two bathrooms, each with a shower (and one with a tub). A cathedral-ceilinged living room with an upright piano, a gas stove/fireplace, an actual record player, and a 55" TV. We have central air, a Nest thermostat and Nest Protect smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, and reverse-osmosis water filtration.
The backyard: A treehouse, a sandbox, and a 5-foot-tall climbing dome for the kids. A new gas grill (Weber Spirit II E-310, top-rated), a grape arbor and a picnic table for the grown-ups. And plenty of towering trees to provide shade during the hot summer days. Because this is a rare downtown TC home with an attached garage, the fenced-in backyard is larger than usual and wide open for game-playing and fun.
The location: You're a 5-block walk to the nearest Lake Michigan beach (and the TART Trails), a 9-block walk to the downtown restaurants, bars and shops on Front Street, a 10-minute drive to the wineries on Old Mission, 20-minute drive to the Horse Show grounds, a 20-minute drive to Suttons Bay and the beauty of Leelanau Peninsula, a 22-minute drive to Interlochen Center for the Arts, and a 35-minute drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. You're situated smack dab in the center of one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
Of note: * Traverse City only allows 30-day rentals, and we abide. * Let us know if you'd really like to extend through Labor Day, and we _might_ be able to accommodate that.

About the host
Hosted by Krista
We have loved Northern Michigan our whole lives. I attended the Interlochen Arts Academy for high school, and continue to teach there in the summers. My husband and I both grew up in Madison, WI and I've come up here every summer to hike the dunes, swim in Lake Michigan, canoe the Platte River, and enjoy the restaurants from Front Street all the way up to Fishtown, in Leland. We now live in Brooklyn, NY most of the year, with our two kids, but return every summer ourselves, as well.
Why they chose this property
This is more than a home -- it's a refuge from normal life and a base camp for adventures. The large house, the large fenced-in yard, the proximity to both downtown and the beach -- and all the other natural beauty nearby -- it's all the perfect place to spend time in the summer.
