About this property

Hygge Getaway with a wood burning sauna overlooking a small private lake

You will love being surrounded by beautiful trees on your scenic drive up the 1/2 mile driveway. When you reach the end of the road, you have arrived. The property is on a small private lake where you can enjoy fishing off the dock, lounging in the hammocks or boathouse, paddling around the island on a paddle board, kayak, canoe or enjoy a bonfire in one of many fire pits any time of the day. Pontoon is available for rent if you choose to fish or get off land for a while. There are many 4-wheeler and snowmobile trails nearby if you choose to bring them along.

The winter months are great for ice fishing (bass and Northern Pike), snowmobiling, X-C Skiing, snowshoeing or biking on your Fat Bike. Groomed X-C ski trails near the loft are 10 minutes away. Spirit Mountain is a 30 minute drive for winter skiing, snowboarding and biking trails. Duluth has many beautiful mountain bike trails for all levels and have gorgeous scenery year round.

You will most certainly see loons, geese, deer, beavers, wild turkeys, sandhill cranes, Trumpeter Swans and eagles that surround the property. The loft above the garage is an inviting private Nordic hideaway with a cozy canopy bed, French press with local coffee and the lake, sauna and boathouse are just a minutes walk. There are three areas on the property for a bonfires.

The owners live on the property and may or may not be present during your stay, but will always respect your space.

The historic boathouse is a common space for guests to enjoy. Perfect for reading, getting out of the sun, having coffee, drinks or dining. It is not exclusive to the rental of the loft as the owners of the property may also be present. The boathouse is open from May - October (although this depends on the weather). There is absolutely no overnight sleeping in the boathouse.

The property is 23 miles from Canal Park in Duluth, just under 30 minutes

Relaxing & Peaceful
My husband and I enjoyed our stay and wish it was longer! We used the sauna in the morning and that was so invigorating. The loft was very clean, well decorated and well stocked! Thank you!

Escape (but not too far!)
My partner and I loved our stay at this sweet loft. The owners, Sheila and Darrin, were extremely hospitable and friendly, and we even got some time to get to know their dog, Lucky! We were given our space to relax and breathe, while also always feeling as though the owners were there if we needed them or had questions. The sauna was AMAZING, as was the view of the lake. This property is just far enough away from Lake Superior to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Duluth while also being a short distance away from great hiking destinations, delicious restaurants, and other tourist-y locations. I cannot recommend this property enough! Thank you!

Wonderful Get Away
Everything about this stay was great. The hosts were communicative before we arrived and helpful with recommendations in the area. After we arrived, they graciously started the wood-burning sauna (OMG -heaven!) for us. The place was clean, cozy, comfortable, and relaxing. Check-in and check-out process was simple. P.S. The stars you can see from this location were gorgeous.

10/10 recommend!!!
We had a great time here for a weekend getaway. The loft was so nice and cozy and Sheila was the best host. We got to enjoy the sauna, ice skating on the lake, fires, grilling, and Shelia even baked us some homemade scones one morning. Will definitely be back, cannot recommend this property enough!!! Thanks Shelia!!!

About the host

We love meeting new people and sharing our home. We have both traveled a lot in our lives and have worked in industry's where we would meet people daily and give them great service... whether it be building a cell phone tower so we can communicate, organizing large events of all kinds or simply preparing a home cooked meal that made you glad you stayed home rather than going out.

Why they chose this property

We were drawn to the lake, the trees, the boathouse and the large living room with a wood burning fireplace. There has always been something magical about the history of the home, land and the family of 8 that grew up here. We have housed many friends and family in the loft above the garage and decided to share it with others to experience being in the woods, enjoying nightly bonfires, drinking wine on the dock or a pontoon ride around the lake.

What makes this property unique

Being on the lake is magical and some of the benefits are listening to the frogs at night or waking up to the loons. Almost every morning and evening the water is like glass and makes it perfect for a paddle or simply sitting on the dock to watch the sunset. The trails are perfect for snowshoeing in the winter months and the stars are bright and beautiful with no city lights to distract.
