We were in this house for about 6 hours when we found bugs in two of the beds. There was questionable cleanliness to begin with, with a ring around the toilet bowl and a spider in the sink. Not sure how recently it was done.Back to the bugs. We did some internet sleuthing and determined probably carpet beetles and not bed bugs. Turns out carpet beetles can cause infestations and feed on fibers, and we were concerned about taking them home with us if we stayed. I called the owner- no answer, left a voicemail explaining the problem. Instead of calling me back like a responsive human, she messages me through Vrbo app which I got later. So at 1030p, we loaded up our family (all 8 of us) and went to Best Western Plus in Sonora (a phenomenal value and great night’s rest if you ever need a hotel in the area).The following day, I heard from the owner they were having someone come to the house to do an inspection. Great, but we’re still out a place. I asked for a refund for the night until we had more answers and she refused. We ended up booking another home in the area.By Sunday, there was no evidence of ongoing infestation. We had not been back to the house nor did we use the lake access in case that would be a cost for them. Long story short, no refund, no house. We were in the place for 6 hours. She suggested we brought the bugs in to the house instead of expressing remorse for our ruined weekend. Not a great showing for a “host”.
