Not a single complaint. From check-in, to exploring the property, and checking out, everything was seamless. Our second stay here was another great time and we look forward to our third stay.
Great place! The house easily accommodated the 6 of us, and the property was gorgeous. The host was very responsive, and the kitchen was well equipped for making meals!
Great location, lots to do on the property. Very peaceful area. We really enjoyed the outdoor kitchen; has lots of itens you need to enjoy a meal outdoors. We loved all the game options supplied for guests. Very family friendly. Would recommend a great for guests to use if they want to cook over a fire.
Fun, quirky little place, perfect for our family of 5! Kitchen has everything you need for meals. My kids enjoyed the games, Alexa and watercolor paints. Outside is amazing- you have to hike up the trail to get to the “outside kitchen”- but it’s a beautiful little hike. We could hear the waterfall from our bedroom!
Good clean house and the owner was very very accommodating. The property itself allows time to just stay at the house and explore/rest. This is a great place to disconnect from technology (even though the owner provides great WiFi) and to just rest. Just a short drive away there is the red river gorge area. This is a huge park to explore with some easier hikes to some more difficult ones, plus some neat restaurants and gift shops. I’d love to get back to this property at some point.
This property is beautiful! The owners were very quick with almost instant responses and had everything stocked in the home that you could need. Very nice location for all the Red River Gorge has to offer. I would very much recommend a stay here!
Very comfortable, had everything you could possibly need, dogs loved it, fun hiking on property and close enough to Red River Gorge. Would definitely go again
We had a great time. It fit our large family perfectly. The only down side was that the grass was very long and made the trails hard to navigate. Other then that no complaints. We will be back!!
We spent most of our time visiting at the rental. We took two hikes and enjoyed the property---beautiful rock formations and nice hilltop veiws. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.
Property is easy to get to but still secluded. Well maintained. House is relaxed ,fun; loved the eclectic decor!
Everything was exceptionally nice. Quality provisions and well stocked.
Family and i had a wonderful stay!
Cool little place with fun decor. Wonderful nature all around, with lots of outdoor spaces to explore. We saw salamanders, skinks, frogs and toads, many butterflies, and tons of wildflowers. The friendly outdoor cat was a welcome surprise. Great place for a digital detox, with only one TV and no video games.
This is an older home that is rather dated but has the necessities. We found the furniture and beds to be comfortable. The kitchen was large with plenty of seating for our 6 family members. If you want sharp knife in the kitchen you need to bring your own. Wi-Fi worked well.
The home is right off a main road so is easy to access. However, it was a bit of a drive to most of the Red River Gorge attractions and included going through the one-way Nada Tunnel which was a novelty the fist time through but a bit of a hassle after that.
The owners were very responsive to a couple of concerns that we had.
I would recommend this home if you don't mind driving back and forth to get to the gorge.

Hey Ronald thanks for staying with us and reviewing our property. We are 15 to 20 minutes to some of the best trails and swim spots in the RRG. The Suspension Bridge, Jump Rock, Tarr Ridge, And Bison Way are all within 20 minutes from the house. It sounds like maybe you were driving down to Natural Bridge area which is south of the gorge and a bit more touristy. It all depends on what brings you to the Red River Gorge area!
Our stay at Shasta Valley was a mixed bag, but it had its charms. The house itself is an older gem, full of character with hardwood floors and vintage decor that gives it a cozy, lived-in feel. However, it’s clear the place hasn’t been maintained as well as it could be. It’s not uninhabitable by any means, but if you’re expecting modern polish, this isn’t it.Where this rental shines is the property itself. Tucked away in a lush, rainforest-like setting, the surrounding woods are breathtaking. Towering trees, thick ferns, and a chorus of birds made it feel like stepping into a nature documentary-perfect for unwinding. There’s a small creek nearby that’s great for a peaceful walk, though the path could use some clearing to avoid tripping over roots. The porch and lawns were our favorite spots to sip coffee and soak in the greenery. Drinks outside at dusk watching fireflies late into the evening was magical. Also appreciated the smart tv which made it easy to access our streaming accounts and watch our usual shows at night. The host was responsive and friendly and the house is easy to navigate as far as instructions and amenities. It’s not a luxury stay, but if you’re after a rustic escape and don’t mind a few imperfections, Shasta Valley’s wild, serene setting makes it worth considering. Just bring some patience for the house itself.
Our family took a weekend get away to Red River Gorge for a few days. This mini-farm had so many super cool details, they amazed me! You are nestled in the middle of woods, a creek, waterfalls, a rustic barn that has obviously been updated and decorated...a small camper that was cool (not sure I'd ever stay inside of it, but it was cool) and more. The inside was just as "thought through". It's quite clear that this was a flipped property, but the decorating and added charm was immediatly apparent. The owners were a dream to work with and we communicated through our stay about different things very positivly. If ever in the area again, we will ABSOLUTLY stay here. We hiked around RRG but also hiked the property. I'm positive the owners take pride in even the trails around...there were cute little signs and fun things hung up...it was just so fun! We did run into campers at the top of the property that I guess I didn't read about in the listing...not to say the owners didn't have it...I think I just didn't read into it. There are strict rules for those who are camping on top of the property and they are not allowed to come past the barn; and, we even ran into some of them on the trails, but we had NO issue whatsoever. I'm only mentioning that we didn't realize others were on the property. If you are planning on cooking meals (which we did) they had everything you need and more. They have 2 kinds of coffee pots..filter and Keurig:-). Great stay!

Why they chose this property
We love how diverse this property is in its terrain. It has the flat open hilltop field perfect for stargazing and bonfires. Its a big enough area for free spirits to run wild and large groups to camp. The forest area and trail are magical and enchanting and FULL of incredible plants, fungi, and wild life. The creek and water fall that lead into the gorge are an incredible feature to add to the beauty of the property. We hope you enjoy it just as much as we do!
