About this property
Nido de amor for couples! In a quiet orchard. Swimming pool. Wifi
This small studio is built above a well on an independent plot of 3000 m² with mango, lemon, pomegranate, orange trees, vine, aloe vera, prickly pears, avocado, macadomia, star fruit, chirimoya. On the plot there is also a water tank. You have access to the jacuzzi, the 25m swimming pool, and the laundry room of the finca, shared with our house.
Quiet location in the countryside 7 kms from the sea and 250 m above sea level.
Access by 3 km dirt rural road, SUV or 4x4 recommended (even if for our part we still drive a standard Citroën C3 car).
Velez-Malaga 4 kms, beaches of Torre del Mar 7 kms, motorway 5 kms, Malaga city and airport 45 minutes, Granada 1h15 and Sierra Nevada 1h30.
The studio was set up in the small house built to operate a 15 m deep well, on which it is located. This well is still accessible from the lower level. The plot is bordered on one side by the local road, and on the other by the bed of the stream, which is only very full of water for a few months in the spring, but whose curtain of reeds covers its bank protects the land. The local road sees a maximum of 10 vehicles pass by per day, not to mention a few joggers or cyclists in the morning, and occasionally horseback riders or a marauding fox.
The studio is an ideal place for a couple looking for a peaceful place to recharge their batteries and reconnect with the simple joys of nature, while being in the heart of the Axarquia, the Andalusian fruit kingdom, and a stone's throw from the tourist attractions of the Costa del Sol.
The proximity to the sea provides a mild climate in all seasons, where outdoor crops combine exotic fruits with the traditional pillars of the olive tree, the almond tree or the vine, not to mention the carob tree, the emblematic tree of the region. In 2023, the temperature exceeded 40° only one day in the year, but there were almost 6 months without rain.
Your little love nest has been designed in bioclimatic sobriety, taking advantage of the coolness of the well it surmounts, and of massive walls, insulated to the south and on the roof. The east and west facing windows allow for very efficient natural ventilation through the street. The cooling is completed by a ceiling fan, which lowers the perceived temperature by 4 to 5 degrees. Electricity is provided by 72 m² of photovoltaic cells (arranged above the main house, not visible from your home), which produce more energy than the consumption of the entire finca.
In the period of climate change we are experiencing, water management is crucial. In the neighboring towns, water restrictions are being imposed throughout the summer. Thanks to two wells, plus a borehole, combined with water tanks, we never run out of water for the homes or the swimming pool. For drinking water, we recommend bottled spring water; Our water is bacteriologically healthy, but too strongly mineralized to make it the basis for regular consumption.
Most of the water we manage is actually used for irrigation. We favour both the diversity of plant species and the selection of drought-resistant species. We are happy to contribute to the life of our rural ecosystem, by making it pleasant to live in, without the search for agricultural yield. If you see fruit on a tree, don't pick it until you've made sure it's the right harvest season, and don't put yourself in danger to pick fruit out of reach: leave it for other animals.
You can come to us to live the life of a hermit, but you can also stay connected and open to the world: the wifi network covers the entire finca, from your home to the swimming pool.
However, we do not impose a television set on you.
Sit on your terrace, follow the flight of the swallows with your eyes, live to the rhythm of the lizards without disturbing them, slow down again until you are in tune with the chameleons, breathe at the speed of an agave flower that blooms.
When you have done a few lengths in the 25 m pool of the finca, relax in the jacuzzi, whose dominant position allows you to visually embrace the entire coast, and on certain winter evenings, to see the heights of the Moroccan Rif looming on the horizon.
And when you feel like it, go and walk through the narrow streets of old Velez, follow the road of the white villages that dot the hinterland, frolic with the ibexes on the slopes of the Maroma which dominates the valley, stroll along the Paseo Maritimo of Torre del Mar, or explore the treasures of the many museums of Malaga.
To return to your love nest, its small interior surface is equipped with a 160x200 bed with a thick, semi-firm mattress and a white lacquered desk.
A folding table in acacia and three folding chairs also make up all the furniture with the bed and desk. As this table and chairs are folding and suitable for outdoor use, it is quite possible for you to use them outside, on the south-west facing terrace.
A parasol also allows you to stand on your terrace during periods of strong sunlight.
A built-in kitchenette (sink-sink and two ceramic hobs, fridge underneath), a wardrobe and open storage shelves with vertical masonry uprights supporting granite shelves allow you to arrange all your belongings and objects.
The bathroom is equipped with a shower and a toilet.
As the sanitation is autonomous, do not throw anything in the toilet except toilet paper
A small 30 l bin is located in the kitchen area, to be then emptied into the large bin (100l) in the basement.
The terrace that extends the accommodation is lined with masonry benches and can allow you to invite two friends over for a meal.
If exceptionally you receive more people, a large stone table in the upper garden will allow you to accommodate up to 8 people. A solar oven and plancha are available as well as the common service room, where a local fridge, a freezer and a washing machine are installed.
We look forward to welcoming you, to make the most of the 2 hectares of our property and to help you discover this enchanting corner of Andalusia that we discovered when we moved there about ten years ago for our retirement.
As a beginner in hospitality, we will be particularly attentive to you and open to the suggestions you offer us to make your stay unforgettable.
