About this property
Farallon- Cozy Cabin with hot tub, fire pit, wood fireplace!
Enjoy the private natural setting among boulders and native rhododendron in this favorite two bedroom two bath log cabin while still convenient to area attractions and amenities. Features hot tub, central AC, outdoor firepit and wood burning fireplace to accommodate up to six with a King master and a second queen bedroom each with their own private bath, plus room for up to two more on the sleeper sofa in the living room.
Welcome to Farallon, one our coziest Valle Crucis log cabin rentals. Surrounded by hardwoods and rhododendron and natural rock outcroppings, this cabin offers the perfect mountain hideaway. To step onto the covered side porch is to already disappear from the hectic world of deadlines and intrusions. The most pressing intrusion here is likely to be a chattering squirrel or the leaves dappling the light upon the pages of the latest best-seller.
To open the door and step inside is to be greeted by nature. The spaciousness of the floor plan is augmented by large windows flanking the magnificent wood-burning fireplace and rising all the way to the cathedral ceiling. With the clean lines of the furniture and the contemporary wrought iron light fixtures suspending from the ceiling offer unobstructed view of the forest outside every window.
The open dining area features seating for six and French doors that open onto the front deck equipped with a gas grill for preparing mountain trout freshly caught in the nearby Watauga River. Pristine modern appliances appoint the fully-equipped centrally located kitchen.
The living area features a comfortable seating area before the fireplace, a flat screen television, and a cabinet of books and games for relaxing after the day's excursions of canoeing and hiking. A telescope waits in the corner for gazing at stars light years away in the crystal clear skies. Hidden behind the kitchen are two bedrooms. The master offers a King bed and the second bedroom has a Queen bed, and each offers the rustic comfort of layers of patchwork quilts. Large windows allow plenty of sunlight for enjoying a lazy breakfast in bed.
A large covered deck stretches the entire front of the cabin, overlooking the surrounding rhododendron and large boulders. The deck is furnished with rocking chairs for after dinner snoozing and features a hot tub for soaking away the stiffness of overdoing it on the slopes while the snow falls around you or hiking up nearby Grandfather Mountain. Follow the path outside to your own fire pit for knocking off the chill after a summertime shower, roasting dogs and s'mores, and telling bear tales. For larger groups, consider renting this cabin with nearby Black Bear Lodge or Van Beek's Peak. Due to the access road, 4WD, chains or sometimes both may be required when visiting the mountains in winter. Access to this home may not be suitable for vehicles with rear wheel drive, limited ground clearance, or motorcycles even during summer months. Great cabin, definitely remote and peaceful. Cabin has everything you need. You should have a 4x4 or all wheel drive vehicle even in dry conditions. The hot tub was fantastic way to relax!
Rooms were clean, hot tub was enjoyable and in a great location. Took some learning to adjust the temperature but the guide provided helped. Cabin was equipped with lots of necessities. Definitely secluded but not too far from local towns. Lovely area!

The cabin is certainly remote. Its mostly gravel roads up the mountain and it is quite steep. I would not have wanted to try and drive that in the winter. Having an SUV should be considered a must, even in the summer just for clearance on some of the bumps. The cabin itself was clean and well stocked. The inside space was advertised, though there were a lot of squeaky floorboards. Great internet conductivity, given how remote the site is. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of seating for our family. The listing did say there was a fire pit, but if it was there, it was not obvious. My only complaint is that there were multiple bulbs out in the master bathroom, including the one over the shower. Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals told me they do a check prior to check-in, which is why were not able to check in early. That is something that should have been caught and addressed at that time since the shower is dark at night without an overhead light.
Beautiful cabin and very relaxing atmosphere. It was stocked with everything we needed. If you have never been to the high country of NC, be aware of long, winding roads that have many cutbacks. An all wheel/4 wheel drive vehicle is best for any time of year in this area. We drove down the first part of the driveway and then backed down the rest of the way to the cabin. It made it much easier to unpack, plus it is better to be able to drive straight out to the road the next time you leave. Went into Blowing Rock one day for dinner. Great place to visit.

4wd is a must, tiny washer and dryer, great for pets with plenty of outdoor area to walk. Heating and air system seem to return to preset temps every night which was not good

We were not able to stay here due to the weather. VRBO & Blue Mountain did right by us and placed us in another beautiful cabin and we had a wonderful time.

They didn’t inform us Floridians that u may need snow chains and the ability to drive straight up a mountain on treacherous iced over roads. We never made it to the cabin for our vacation. We ended up at motels and lodged in Banner elk. Not a refund we expected! Just a room cleaning fee returned. I won’t do it again with vrbo

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry the winter weather and road conditions impacted your travel plans. Mountain travel during snow and ice events can be challenging, particularly for guests unfamiliar with driving in winter conditions, and we always provide ample notice of incoming snowstorms and strongly encourage guests to monitor forecasts closely to prepare accordingly during winter months.
We understand how disappointing it was to miss your vacation and are sorry to hear that the circumstances outside of our control prevented you from reaching the property. Thank you again for sharing your experience. - BRMR
We loved the serenity, peace and quiet and true cabin in the woods feel. It is pretty remote and the need for a 4 wheel drive vehicle is an absolute must especially if there is snow.
We enjoyed our stay at Farallon cabin! The well appointed cabin is very comfortable and quiet, with nice views from the porch! Very quiet and peaceful. We even enjoyed a couple of visitors during our stay! The drive up the mountain is a bit winding, so be prepared. As other reviews and per the owners description stated, make sure you are in an appropriate vehicle for your visit. We look forward to our next visit!
