About this property
Book Now for Your Summer Lake Getaway! Hot Tub & Covered Deck! Boat Access!
Book now for summer at the lake! Two summer weekends & Labor Day weekend still available! Discount for full week stays. Great place for family fun, romantic getaways, and memorable times with friends. Hot tub, covered deck, patio with gas firepit table, lake views, nearby lake access, community boat dock. Mayfield Lake is stocked weekly with 3,500-4,500 rainbow trout - bring your fishing pole! Minimum 2-night stay.
The Harmony Retreat is located less than 2 miles north of Mossyrock, WA (20 miles east of I-5's exit 68, off US Hwy 12/White Pass Scenic Byway), half way between Seattle and Portland. It's on the east end of beautiful Mayfield Lake in a lakeside neighborhood of mostly vacation homes, with some year-round residents.
The west-facing custom-built home has filtered lake views from most of the rooms and from the covered deck. In the evening, watch the sun set over the glistening lake, and at night, gaze at the stars shining brightly in the night sky, unobstructed by city lights. In winter, snow sports are just an hour away at White Pass Ski Resort and Mt. Rainier National Park.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The home is well-equipped for a family or small group to enjoy (maximum 7 people, including no more than 6 adults), yet intimate enough for a couple's romantic getaway. The primary bedroom upstairs has a new king bed and a twin convertible chair-bed. This cozy room also has a vaulted ceiling and ceiling fan, comfortable chairs for reading/relaxing, 32" smart HDTV with Netflix (or log in to your own streaming subscriptions), and a full bathroom with a soaking tub and double sinks.
On the main level, the other bedroom has a queen bed and colorful boho decor, and a 32" smart HDTV (log in to your own streaming subscriptions). Across the hall, there's a second bathroom with tub/shower.
Besides the 2 bedrooms, other sleeping options in the open/non-private areas include:
* a double-size bed tucked into the alcove of the open loft adjacent to the upstairs bedroom
* a queen sofabed with added memory foam topper in the living room
* a twin rollaway bed
There's a portacrib for little ones, and two single sleeping mats.
The Harmony Retreat's Great Room invites the outside in with its two-story wall of windows facing the lake. This room features a wood-burning fireplace, 40" smart HDTV (log in to your own streaming subscriptions) with DVD player, hardwood floors, ceiling fan, and two spacious sofas. The large, open kitchen is fully equipped with all you need to enjoy cooking and baking, including a new Jenn-Air range. The dining table and counter bar together seat 8.
The Harmony Retreat has secure wireless Internet access, so feel free to bring your tablet or laptop. A folding desk and chair are available to set up a remote workspace during your visit, if needed.
Enjoy a variety of board games, books, magazines, and classic DVDs for all ages.
Central heating and the fireplace make the home comfy-cozy in winter. Air conditioning and ceiling fans keep you cool in the summer. There's a complete laundry room with washer, dryer, iron, and ironing board too.
OUTSIDE
The 1/3-acre property features richly varied naturescaping, with paths, garden art, seating spots, and whimsical touches. Lovingly created by the original owners, these grounds are a retreat too, a place to become steeped in nature's beauty while walking the paths or viewing the garden from the second floor deck or the hot tub below the deck. Relax on the patio, gather around the gas fire pit table to roast marshmallows, and share laughter and stories.
No matter the weather, the covered deck off the main floor invites guests to enjoy the fresh air, with several seating areas, a hammock, two dining tables, and a Weber gas grill.
NEARBY
The private community dock is just down the street, where you can launch your motor boat for a day of fishing (lake is open for fishing year-round) or water-skiing. Or bring your jet-skis, canoe, kayak, or raft to explore the 13-mile lake and adjacent Cowlitz River canyons. (Note that there is no boat moorage or tow vehicle parking; someone in your group will need to bring tow vehicle back to driveway after launching but it's a fairly short walk back.)
Across the street and through a greenbelt, there's a community swimming dock and lakeside picnic table. At the other end of the lake (15-minute drive), boat rentals are available at the marina.
Bike, jog, or walk on scenic country roads that meander through forest and meadows, where you're likely to spot farm animals, fields of flowers, wildlife, birds, and vistas of Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, and the neighboring foothills.
Or head out by car to visit the rural towns of Mossyrock (which has a few shopping and dining options) and nearby Morton, explore nature trails and the lake at Ike Kinswa State Park, see the Mossyrock Dam, go geocaching, take a day trip to Mt. Rainier National Park to hit the trails (remember to bring chains Nov. 1-April 30), see waterfalls, and learn about the park's natural wonders at the visitors center, enjoy snow sports at nearby White Pass, go shopping at the outlet and antique stores and have lunch at historic McMenamins in nearby Centralia, take a steam train ride through the countryside from Centralia or Elbe, view Mt. St. Helens from the secluded northeast approach when open, and drive the back roads of this unique region.
(For all rates, there is a 9.8% lodging tax, $180 cleaning fee, and refundable deposit. VRBO also charges a separate booking fee that they keep.) CHECK OUT OUR YEAR-ROUND SPECIALS TOO! Please mention special in your initial inquiry and your rate quote will be adjusted.

About the host
Hosted by Harmony Retreat

Our family lives in Seattle and has enjoyed staying at vacation rentals internationally. We love the convenience and unique amenities of vacation rental homes. So we wanted to create our own unique sense of 'home-away-from-home' using our travel experiences, to share with guests visiting this area.
Why they chose this property
Mayfield Lake is still an 'undiscovered treasure' to many -- even people in nearby Centralia sometimes aren't aware of this 13-mile long glistening jewel just a short drive off of I-5!
The Harmony Retreat is an easy drive from Portland (about 90 minutes), Olympia (about an hour) and Seattle (under 2 hours) and is also just over an hour from White Pass Ski Resort. The Mt. Rainier Visitors Center is less than an hour's drive and there are a variety of activities happening in the area all summer, including the famous Loggers Jubilee in August in Morton, the Blueberry Festival in nearby Mossyrock the first weekend in August, farmers markets, and huge flea markets that line the main drag of Packwood on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Enjoy fireworks shows on the lake and in Mossyrock and Randle on 4th of July weekend too!

What makes this property unique
Located in a quiet, upscale lakefront neighborhood, the Harmony Retreat is just 2 miles from the main highway (US Hwy. 12/White Pass Scenic Byway) and the town of Mossyrock. Custom-built by its original owners, much care went into the home's construction and its surrounding gardens. Unique architectural features provide a sense of character and class that make this home more than just a 'cabin' or a 'house' -- and so we named it the 'Harmony Retreat.'
The large covered outdoor deck is a favorite relaxing spot for guests, where they can grill on the gas bbq grill, rest on the hammock, read, drink complimentary wine, and relax on comfortable chairs while enjoying views of the lake across the street, and the scenic foothills nearby.
Since opening for guests in April 2009, Harmony Retreat has hosted couples celebrating anniversaries, a small outdoor wedding, young families considering relocation to this unique rural area, active kayakers and fishing enthusiasts, youth group gatherings, scrapbooking groups, girlfriend getaways, solo retreats, and multigenerational family gatherings. Whether you're a regular visitor to Mayfield Lake looking for a new place to stay, or someone looking for a completely new destination to explore in a pristine, lake setting near the mountains yet not far off the beaten path, we sincerely welcome you to the Harmony Retreat!
