About this property
Macatawa Cottage with Amazing Views and Private Beach!
Sunset Cottage is a truly wonderful classic cottage, perched high on Macatawa Park’s North Hill with spectacular views of Lake Michigan, Lake Macatawa and Big Red Lighthouse. With a short walk to a shared private beach and a charming, historical location, Sunset Cottage is a great vacation destination. Macatawa is a private beach community with quiet hours between 11pm and 9am.
This renovated cottage, with all of the comforts and amenities of home, will accommodate up to eight guests. It’s perfect for two small families, one larger family or three couples due to the sleeping configuration. Built in the 1890s, on the side of a dune, the house is vertical with four levels. The lowest level, reached up a few stairs from the street is an exterior cellar where beach gear is stored. Up from there is the side entry door to the first/lower level. This level has two bedrooms, each with a queen. It also has renovated bath with tub/shower as well as a den with the TV and a laundry room. On the main level (the second floor) there is an open kitchen, dining and living area, a bath with a tub (no shower) and the door to a spacious deck. The large loft (the third floor) has two twins and a king. There is a well-appointed kitchen and a gas grill for the guest who enjoys cooking. There is a window ac unit which cools the loft, the main level and trickles down to the lower level. Linens are provided for your stay with the exception of beach towels.
In addition to spending time on the fabulous beach, enjoy relaxing on the the deck with your morning coffee and viewing incredible sunsets in the evening.
During your stay, you will have guest privileges at private tennis courts. Boat slips are available at Eldean Marina, just a five minute walk from the cottage. 1 Advernture Company offers rentals for all kinds of water sports as well as bikes. The dunes are a great backdrop for long walks on the beach or hikes on nearby trails. Excellent shopping and dining are just a short drive away in downtown Holland or Saugatuck. You'll find galleries, antiques, boutiques, cafes, ice cream shops, bookstores and delicious restaurants. Don't miss the Farmers Market, held on Wednesday and Saturday in downtown Holland.

About the host
Hosted by Jane Gijsbers
We hope Sunset Cottage will provide years of memories for our family and guests.
Why they chose this property
After vacationing in Macatawa, we absolutely fell in love with the community and location. It's not too far from our home, making it a perfect weekend getaway. As soon as you make the turn up the dune you feel like you're in a different world, even though Holland is just ten minutes away. The incredible sugar-sand private beach and amazing views from the deck make Sunset Cottage an ideal escape. Built in 1895, our renovated cottage has a historical lake house feel with all the comforts of home.
What makes this property unique
Sleep 'til you wake. Enjoy your coffee on the deck as the sun rises over the dunes. Go fishing off the pier (or not). Stroll along the shoreline or hike through the wooded trails. Rent a bike, a jet ski or boat. Read a magazine. Have a light lunch. What to do next? Golf? Tennis? Shopping? Relaxing? Take the convenient backpack chairs down to the beach and read a romantic novel. Build a sandcastle. Fly a kite. Play Frisbee or body-surf on a windy day. Play cards or do a puzzle. Dinnertime. Grill. View the Lake and the sunset from your table. Contemplate what to do the next day.
