About this property
Peaceful Bayside Home the Woods - Sleeps 6 people, 8 max.
Five minute drive to Roche Harbor or 25-30 min walk. Relax and breathe in fresh sea air while dining on the spacious sun-soaked deck, overlooking sparkling water through large bay-view windows, or lounging on the pebble beach listening to gentle waves and watching gulls, eagles, and otters cruise by. Very private and nestled among madrona and fir trees, this vacation home is fantastic during any season of the year and perfect for a family vacation, gathering of friends, or romantic getaway. A five minute drive (25 minute walk) from Roche Harbor, you'll get privacy and peaceful accomodations but will still be close by to lots of fun on-island activities. It's a truly special place you won't want to miss -- our family has enjoyed this unique property for many years!
There is a main house and guest house with a short trail between them (about 40 feet). Both have their own decks, kitchens, and bathrooms. Enough beds to sleep 6-7 adults comfortably with a max of 8 guests allowed. The open, high ceiling livingroom/dining area/kitchen in the main house is perfect for family or friends group gatherings. Cozy and picturesque during colder months, and stunning in the warm, sunny months.
MAIN HOUSE: Large windows let in tons of natural light. The central living room area (gas stove included) connects to an open kitchen which has lots of counter space, a view of the water, and is fully stocked with cooking appliances and staples. A large wood dining table is great for group meals. Master bedroom (with attached master bathroom) has bay view and sliding glass doors to front deck. 2nd bedroom is on the other side of the house from the master bedroom, and has window that faces the woods.
GUEST CABIN: A comfortable and cozy space with it's own bathroom, dining nook, and kitchenette. Guest house bedrooms share a wall. 1 room has a double bed, the other has a bunk bed.
OUTDOOR SPACE/VIEW: A short, gradual trail leads down to the pebble/barnacle beach. In addition to views of the bay, the property looks out into lush greenery of "British Camp", a protected national park. Across the bay is the world-famous Westcott Bay Shellfish Company, a small operation on the water's edge.
You can dig clams or collect mussels along the property's beachfront. If you travel by boat to the islands, Westcott Bay is a great place for dungeness crabbing during open season (typically July through September/October; details about open season and licenses can be found on the Washington Dept of Fish & Wildlife website). Fishing for trout, salmon, and bottomfish is also popular in the region and excursions can be arranged with local tour/recreation companies based in Friday Harbor or Roche Harbor.
ACTIVITIES: The surrounding region is great for walking, hiking, kayaking, biking, boating, fishing, and crabbing. Friday Harbor is 20 minutes away by car or 1 hour by bike. Large ocean-side beaches are a 20-30 minute drive to the other side of the island (e.g. American Camp or South Beach). Whale watching opportunities can be arranged in Roche Harbor or Friday Harbor.
We invite you to come enjoy this very special spot nestled in the gorgeous San Juan Islands!
Please note that the base rental rate shown on the home page is for 6 guests. Fee applies beyond 6 people to cover costs of cleaning, utilities, and supplies associated with larger groups. (Property in compliance with San Juan County vacation rental regulations, VR permit #08CU21).

About the host
Hosted by Anne

Our family purchased this piece of land in 1983 and spent many years camping here. We worked with local island contractors and builders in 2001 and 2002 to build what is now the "guest house", soon followed by construction of the larger main house. The land and home are very special to our family, and we are pleased that friends and renters have also been able to enjoy this beautiful part of the earth!
