About this property

PERIWINKLE COTTAGE in Brooklin, Maine

Spend time on the banks of Herrick Bay in this charmingly restored, single level classic 1930's Maine shingled cottage consisting of a main living/dining area, kitchen, three bedrooms and one full bath. Located near Naskeag Point and just outside the village of Brooklin, the comfortable, charming main living area includes antiques and wicker furniture, good reading lamps, a vaulted ceiling, white-washed walls, hardwood floors and a propane stove for chilly days. Three bedrooms sleep up to four adults and two children and include two queen beds and two twin beds, all with comfortable mattresses. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking meals with many vintage touches and an outdoor shower allows for rinsing after swimming. Brooklin is best known for its picturesque bays and waterways and premier sailing waters, and is home to WoodenBoat School, boat builders and boat yards, craftspeople and artists. Enjoy beautiful sunrises drinking coffee on the screened porch swing, watch the lobster boats, listen to waves lapping at the shore, swim and kayak from the rocks at high tide with easy access using the wooden steps to the beach, explore the tidepools, and enjoy the many area hiking trails. This is a favorite cottage that enjoys returning guests each year. The property includes a quaint playhouse for children and is supplied with games and puzzles for rainy days. Please note: Owners will consider hypoallergenic, non-shedding dogs up to 50 pounds with an additional fee and signed pet agreement. The twin bedroom is accessed from the queen bedroom and is best suited for younger children. Internet is 50 Mbps Fidium fiber and cell reception is generally good. The TV has Roku for streaming. Owners live nearby so are easily accessible for any problems and local suggestions. This property rents Saturday to Saturday from late June through early October.

Perfect Maine vacation
Truly one of the most special places I’ve ever stayed at. Waking up on the water and having coffee was one of the most luxurious thing. Can’t recommend enough. Only wish it was available next summer!

We represent private property owners to manage their rental properties for short-term rentals on Maine’s beautiful Blue Hill Peninsula. Enjoy peace of mind when you rent with our locally-owned company. Know that what you see online is what you will enjoy in person and that we'll be there when you need us.
All of our properties are available during the summer months with some also available for winter rentals.

Why they chose this property

As described by the Blue Hill Chamber of Commerce: The Blue Hill Peninsula encompasses the towns of Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Castine, Penobscot, Sedgwick, and Surry and serves as the gateway to Little Deer Isle, Deer Isle, and Stonington. Blue Hill is the largest town and is the region’s service center. The landscape here is marked by sweeping views of the blueberry barrens and the sea. Tucked in among the ridges, valleys, and jagged coastline, you’ll find adventure of all kinds, from a day on the water and an evening of live music to a solitary morning walk and an afternoon of gallery tours and shopping.

You’ll find our communities to be diverse, independent yet interconnected. In all of these places, you may strike up a conversation with a lobsterman, boatbuilder, or sailor who knows these waters like the back of their hand. In all of these places, you will find locally sourced food and highly skilled craftspeople and artists. In all of these places, you will find evidence of the resourcefulness, dry wit, and creativity that has defined our region’s culture for centuries.

This region was settled in the mid-1700s, and its early economy centered around shipbuilding and quarrying. Lumbering, lobstering, fishing, and farming have played an important role in our economy and culture since the earliest days. By the late 1800’s the region had become a summer destination. Today, many of these industries coexist with a thriving art, music, and food scene to create this unique place called The Blue Hill Peninsula.

What makes this property unique

One of our favorite cottages, Periwinkle was originally part of the Haven Colony, a group of artists, many of modest means, that wanted to escape the city for peace and tranquility on Maine’s rocky coast. The owners have thoughtfully and charmingly furnished it to be inviting for guests to stay in while visiting the area. Sitting on the shores of Herrick Bay, there are stairs leading down to the wonderful private beach just waiting for guests to enjoy and explore, and an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand and grass upon return.
