Great place to stay. So quiet! Perfect for my husband to hunt during the day and comfortable enough to unwind!! Kitchen nicely stocked with cooking supplies. They even left fresh eggs (upon request) in the fridge. Would definitely stay again!!
This location for snowmobiling was great. The property managers were very attentive and provided details on how to find the place. Upon arrival they had a book with things to do, which was helpful.
Nice Pet Friendly Cabin with Beautiful View of Stars
My husband and I and our 2 dogs stayed at one of the availabile cabins for a few days. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were accommodating and welcoming. There's plenty to do in a short drive and on clear evenings the stars are magical.
My husband and I enjoyed the cabin and it’s peaceful location. It was a great place to cook dinners and enjoy each other’s company. Lots of stars at night. We enjoyed the fire pit and chatting with with the owners.

Thanks for staying with us Catherine! We enjoyed hosting you both, and so happy you enjoyed your stay.
First off, it is an adorable cabin! Roomy for a few people and worked well for us. The beds were pretty worn, but we worked through it.

Hi Sandra, I wanted to take the opportunity to reach out to you and thank you for the feedback last year. We have since upgraded every single mattress in our cabins. Thank you for the thoughtful feedback!

My husband and I stayed here for a couple nights as we were visiting people and property nearby. This is a cute little rustic cabin, and it was perfect for our needs as it was close to those we were visiting. The king bed was comfortable, and the cabin is very quiet and clean, and it had all we needed in order to stay comfortably for a few days. The WIFI was very good. We slept well there. We initially had a minor issue with the TV that we discovered when we checked in, and it was addressed quickly. The hosts were easy to communicate with and they were so very pleasant and helpful. We would recommend this rental, and we would stay again.
We chose this location as a rather last minute decision to travel up to MTU’s homecoming football game. We needed pet friendly and we were having some difficulty finding anything available. We booked this cabin even though we knew it would be a 40 minute drive back to Houghton. If you’re looking for a quiet peaceful location this is ideal. Very remote. The outside of the cabin didn’t prove to be very inviting but stepping inside it was very cute, clean and comfortable. Well stocked with everything that we needed for our short stay. The majority of the lights didn’t work and the bathroom was very dark, so much that I was unable to apply makeup in there. Owners were extremely easy to work with answering a number of questions that I had within minutes. Overall our stay was exactly what we were looking for.
Nice cabin, located near Silver Mountain. Out of the way, which is why we chose it. Equipped with all amenities, including high speed internet, which is amazing given the location. Will stay again.
Nice place, would be good for a family with kids as it is near the woods and they have chickens and a rooster to view. Lots of sleeping space too. Wonderful hosts, very responsive to needs.
Great, large cabin for our family of 4 plus German Shepherd. Located steps away from Ottawa National Forest, this remote location affords solitude easy access to forest trails but is also very close to Keweenaw/L'Anse Bay and Prickett Lake. Cabin was fully equipped, wifi worked well and was great value for the price. No complaints at all.

About the host
Hosted by Michael Bowe
Our family is originally from Minnesota. We fell in love with the U.P. and moved up here permanently in 2021. You can oftentimes find one of us walking around or doing a job on the property. You are welcome to engage with us as little or as much as you like. If you need anything while on property you are welcome to knock on our door or message us through the VRBO app.
Why they chose this property
Silver Mountain Cabins is a working homestead located in the Ottawa National Forest. Our property is a unique retreat away from the traditional city distractions. We offer wifi and smart tv in each cabin, with plenty of outdoor space to engage with nature. There are two rental cabins as well as our home on the property, and there is a shared fire pit, grill and picnic area for guests to utilize. Each cabin has a private fire pit and seating area in addition to the shared spaces. You are welcome to explore the expansive gardens, visit the chickens, or take a hike through our 22 acres of woods to forage for mushrooms or other native vegetation.
What makes this property unique
While we are a bit off the beaten path, there are many activities to participate in year-round. Winter offers some of the best snowmobiling in the country and there is direct access from our road to the UP trail system. There are also great opportunities for snowshoeing and off-trail cross country skiing. Spring is prime time for maple syruping, fishing and rock hounding. As Lake Superiors shorelines melt they leave a new crop of interesting and unique rocks for the rock lovers out there. Summer is full of opportunities for everyone, with berry picking starting early June and going through August. There are excellent hiking, kayaking and canoeing spots for day trips as well as fishing, and opportunities for more adventurous water sports on Lake Superior, a short drive away. A local favorite rock climbing spot at Silver Mountain is right down the road, with beautiful views of the entire area. Fall leads into our amazing fall color runs as well as the kickoff to our Northern Lights season, which is more prevalent in our fall through early spring months. Any time of the year, we have some of the most amazing sky views in the world (we may be biased).
