About this property
Big Sky Location. Away from the crowd. Newly Renovated.
Lightfoot is a newly renovated home with both river and canyon views. It’s located in the Gallatin Canyon just five miles from Big Sky Town Center. This two-story property was renovated in 2021 and has three bedrooms (1 king, 2 queens) and two fully renovated bathrooms. All three beds were purchased new in 2021 from Crate & Barrel. The property has Restoration Hardware furniture. The three bedrooms sleep a total of six (6).
The second floor’s open design has a fully equipped kitchen with a gas Jenn Air stove/range top, a large island, Nespresso machine (pods provided by host) and a river/canyon view. A gas grill is located on the deck and available all year. The upstairs living room has a large dining room table (6 person), a new wood burning stove, Samsung Smart TV and is surrounded by large windows to enjoy the canyon view, river scenery and wildlife. The downstairs rec-room has a Samsung Smart TV, large wood burning stove, bar area, Peloton bike (personal cycle shoes are required) and a glass paneled garage door to watch the Bald Eagles fly the canyon. A new six-person Nordic Warrior XL hot tub was installed on the deck in July 2022. The hot tub is drained, professionally cleaned and filled before every stay. There is also a picnic table on the back deck to enjoy summer BBQs.
The property has a wood burning firepit in front of the house. Please note, this can only be used when fire restrictions are not in place. We also have plenty of parking and a carport surrounded in the winter by pre-split wood for the stoves. Public fishing access to the Gallatin River is available across from Lightfoot’s access road entrance.
We have very fast fiber internet that is reliable and makes remote working easy. The internet speed test conducted on August 14, 2022 showed 95.4 Mbps download and 61.3 Mbps upload. There is no cell phone service at Lightfoot but you may switch your phone to wifi-calling and rest easy knowing that you can connect with family or clients whenever needed. All three bedrooms have work desks and two bedrooms are equipped with dual monitors. Access to a printer and scanner is available. A Bluetooth speaker is also provided.
Please note, Lightfoot is located in the Gallatin Canyon, adjacent to both the Gallatin River and Gallatin Road. You may notice occasional river or road noise. However, we installed new Anderson windows in 2021 to mitigate disturbance as much as possible. The private access road to the property is plowed in the afternoons when new snow accumulation reaches 4 inches or more. The Home is professionally cleaned and regularly serviced by an exterminator to prevent any unwanted mountain pests. 24-hour maintenance/service is on-call. Wireless keyless entry is available for self-check-in/checkout. Please note, due to the cool summer Montana climate, this residence does not have air conditioning. We find that it isn't necessary for the cool Canyon temperatures.
This is our home and we take great pride in keeping Lightfoot both clean and safe. A random management company does not run this listing or care for the property. This is managed by us, the homeowners. The contractor that renovated Lightfoot will be available to handle any emergencies. Rest easy knowing that you are in responsible hands that care about this property and your stay.
Location/Proximity
Per the "Maps" app, Lightfoot is merely 5.2 miles (7 min) from Big Sky Town Center (grocery, hospital, shops, restaurants) and 11 miles (16 min) from the Big Sky Mountain Ski Village (more information below). Lightfoot is 39 miles (46 min) from Bozeman, 40 miles (47 mins) from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport and 51 miles (54 min) from Yellowstone National Park’s west entrance in West Yellowstone. We are also a short drive to your favorite hikes at Osul Falls (6.8 miles/11 min), Beehive Basin (14 miles/23 min) and Lava Lake (12 miles/14 min).
The Drive to the Mountain
We receive many questions on how far the drive is to the Big Sky Ski Resort. Per the "Maps" app, Lightfoot is only 11 miles (16 min drive) to Big Sky Mountain Ski Village (parking lot). The rest of the timing is up to you. If you had your pass ready, you're looking at a 16-minute drive and then 15 minutes to park, gear up and walk/shuttle to the first lift area. It goes by pretty quick and is a great drive to the Mountain with breakfast and coffee options along the way.
Fly Fishing Access
Lightfoot is located in the heart of the Gallatin River. Our private access road entrance is directly across a public access point for the Gallatin. You can easily walk from Lightfoot, down our private access road and be on this Blue-Ribbon River within five minutes. However, one caveat; this fishing location is one of the best in the entire Gallatin. Local outfitters/guides fish this stretch almost daily so you will need to be organized and early to beat them to it. With that said, the early (and late evening) bird gets the brown trout and they are plentiful. We typically fish this location in the evenings and it is not uncommon to catch 20” plus brown trout (along with rainbows) regularly on this stretch of river. You are also a short drive to both the Madison and Yellowstone rivers. We have a great relationship with an Outfitter in Livingston that can schedule guided float trips on either river with relative ease (and sometimes last minute). Once booked, I’m more than happy to help you with your fly fishing game plan.
