Come and enjoy this lovely traditional stone country house, peacefully nestled in the Umbrian hills overlooking Lake Alviano. After a day of discovering the nearby towns of Orvieto, Todi, Amelia, Bagnoregio – to name only a few, come back and enjoy a cooling dip in the pool and aperitivo while the horizon is bathed in the colours of sunset.
Rome and Florence are easily reachable by local train, and the small Alviano station is a short drive down the hill. Slightly further afield for day trips are Assisi, Perugia, Montepulciano, Pienza and more. We will be delighted to share with you our curated list of wine & food spots, cultural destinations, master makers and artisans, charming local shops, and seasonal fairs.
Madi is happy to arrange memorable experiences such as pasta-making classes with Cinzia, a visit to a small family-run distillery, wineries, a local jam and preserves maker, or meet mother & daughter team Adria and Gessica and indulge in a little cashmere (and not only!) shopping at their atelier. If Deruta and its centuries of ceramic artistry call to you, master craftsmen Eugenio and Agostino are looking forward to meeting you. However, should you just wish to relax, a restorative massage with Maurizio can certainly be arranged!
Nature walks are not far away, at the WWF Bird Sanctuary of Lake Alviano and the UNESCO World Heritage site, the old-growth beech forest, La Faggeta del Monte Cimino. Also, a nearby educational organic farm welcomes children and their families.
Every season has something to offer at Calanchi. The green rebirth and blooms of spring; the long warm days and overflowing market stalls of summer. In the autumn, the light softens and the leaves crackle underfoot. And just before the slower pace and mists of winter set in, the olives are ripe for picking. And you’re welcome to join in – taking part in the harvest and bringing the crop to the frantoio for pressing.
Come and stay at Calanchi, a magical vacation and memorable, bespoke experiences await you!
