About this property
Perfect for a day trip to White Sands National Park!
** Please read the entire description**
This is a great location to use as "home base" to take day trips to White Sands National Park, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Hueco Tanks State park, and the cities of Hatch, Cloudcroft and Ruidoso, NM (we often go up to visit just for the day and come home).
Our geodome was built in 2001 by multiple people within the Chaparral community. Chaparral is nestled right in between El Paso, TX and Las Cruces, NM. Both cities can be easily accessed from the dome.
The inside boasts an open floor plan with living room, dining room and full kitchen. The living room has 2 futons, large reclining couch, and a smart TV. Please come prepared with your Netflix/Hulu/Prime etc. account information. There is a full bathroom downstairs with a washer and dryer.
The upstairs loft has a king size bed and with a unique view out the large window. There is also a half bath.
The back door has a doggy door for your fur babies that leads to a fenced in area. We understand you may want to do activities that your pet is not able to go to. Your pet is welcome to stay in the home but MUST be kenneled if left alone. Failure to do so could result in an additional fee and any repair costs. We do not recommend leaving your pets unattended during the summer months.
Please remember this is the desert, there are goat heads (thorns/stickers) here aka “picas”. It’s apart of desert life, so we recommend wearing tennis shoes or boots. If you are bringing pets along we recommend doggie shoes for them although, not a requirement and most pets are fine. Pets are allowed here, please consider this if you deal with any allergies.
There are Ring cameras on the outside of the dome for security purposes.
Important: June-September is monsoon season in our area. It's also summer time and very hot. The dome is run by a swamp cooler. This is much different than refrigerated air. You may find the air to be humid inside and the swamp cooler is only able to cool the house to a certain temperature. This time of year also brings flies around. The flies can be mitigated if you open and close the front door as quickly as possible.
Please note, the dome is very close to White Sands Missile range, which is an extension of Ft. Bliss. There are military trainings that occur here and you may hear noises from it. At times you may be able to watch the tracer missile's fall from the upstairs loft. This usually occurs during the summer time but can vary. We personally find it very interesting and enjoy it .
With that said, we do not want our guests to have any surprises when they get here about desert life. The desert is beautiful, the sunsets and sunrises are breathtaking and the dome offers quite the unique experience. We love the desert and hope you'll love it as much as we do. We can't wait to have you as our guest!

About the host
Your host

We love desert living. We also love to travel and see new places.
Why they chose this property
In 2016 we were looking to escape the city. Thats when we stumbled across the dome. It wasn't perfect. The dome was falling apart, and leaked everywhere. Over the last four years nearly the entire house has been remodeled from the outside in. We love this unique structure and want to share the joy it brings us with others.
What makes this property unique
The dome offers unique mountain views and an appreciate for an ecosystem that is typically under appreciated.
