Honest Review
I want to preface this by stating that I would rent this space again and have rented condos at Mill Harbor since 2017. The cost of of renting these condos has nearly doubled since 2017 while the actual care and upkeep of the condos and the complex have steadily gone down. For one, there use to be a property manager that was strict but always was there to receive and redistribute packages, now they only have a person available from 4:30 until 5pm each day and often no one would be there during that time. For about two weeks straight there were consistent problems with water throughout the complex, being either off or with low pressure. The electrical wiring made it that if you ran the washer and dryer at the same time, electricity in the whole building (not just our apartment) would shut off. This is the second year I had students staying in the complex that have complained about someone following them around this complex and when I brought it to the attention of the security guard he had no reassurances to offer. Most of the owners of these properties are not living on island so when things go wrong, you are stuck with folks scrambling stateside to find someone local to fix things. For example the electric lock broke, leaving me stranded outside for about four hours late at night, and the refrigerator broke spoiling all our produce and meat, yes someone was able to tend to these things, yes the owner was kind and refunded part of our stay, and nothing was fixed timely.

It was ok
Couldn’t figure out gate code, tried contacting lister, no returned phone call, when we figured it out it was miserably hot in the place, upstairs fan didn’t work, downstairs bed had sand in it. The location was gated which was good bc surrounding neighborhood was lower end. The beach at our place was not swimmable. Overall the beds were comfy and house was fully stocked. I do find the price for the house was spot on.

About the host

Hi, I'm Renee! I live in Chicago with my husband, Keith, son, Spencer, and rescued pup. We enjoy sailing, scuba diving, and for two weeks every October, we run a "home haunt" for charity. The Devil's Playground raises money for Don't Be A Monster's K-12 bullying prevention programs. We create all the scary props and animatronics ourselves. Halloween holds a special place in our hearts--we were even married on Oct. 31. We create custom, commissioned props for all kinds of events like birthday parties and weddings--think 8' tiki heads to flank entryways, Moulin Rouge windmills that really turn and have lights, and hand painted circus games. Our day jobs are in marketing (R) and construction (K) so these "side jobs" are how we flex our creative muscles and put those art degrees to use!

Why they chose this property

We found a little piece of paradise! From the rooftop terrace with a view of the turquoise blue sea, to the pool overlooking the beach, you will find yourself in a tropical paradise. Our beach condo in St. Croix is a new adventure for us and we are thrilled to share it with guests from around the world. The island is a very special place, from the culture to the glorious beaches, to the vast underwater reefs to explore (if you snorkel or dive). We've recently added some accommodations for our youngest guests including a small bed, tropical bedding, toys, and dishware.

What makes this property unique

Why stay at Kraken Cove? Well, first of all, we are artists so we spent a lot of time and energy on the aesthetics of our beach condo. We chose crisp white walls to make the swirling turquoise and blue floors the focal point. The decor is elegant sea-themed but not kitschy. The newly renovated bathrooms include showers featuring fishscale tile and tiny, hidden creatures scattered among the penny round. The upstairs lofted bedroom is a huge space that takes in a lovely sea breeze. But enough about the unit! If you come to St. Croix, you are coming to have a magical island experience. Go explore! Kayak a bioluminescent bay at night, ride a horse in the surf at sunset. Take breakfast on the roof terrace while gazing at the sea.
