About this property

Lake Champlain Great Camp - Rustic Luxury, Sunsets, Lawn, Beach, Amenities!

The Camp at Barney Point…the perfect place for family vacations or multi-generational retreats! Outstanding 2,700 sf Lakefront “Adirondack Great Camp”, available seasonally, May to October. Fully heated and air conditioned with 5-zones - one for each bedroom, plus the Great Room. This Camp, or lake house, is an architectural “wow”, reflecting a careful, modern renovation while maintaining its historic, 1920s character. Rustic, yet luxurious. Spacious, but cozy, with many nooks for sitting with a good book, a cup of coffee, or a friend or family member...

The Camp is located at Barney Point on Colchester Point Road, Colchester, VT, on the broad portion of Lake Champlain, with spectacular views to south and west, lake breezes, and picture-perfect sunsets.

The property offers almost an acre of manicured lawns, bluestone walkways, and great landscaping, with two hundred feet of cliff-top lake frontage and panoramic views. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the huge, green, lawn (with pop-up irrigation system) for dining, lounging, croquet, volleyball, ping pong, softball, tag or other games. Sit, read, and relax. Lay in a hammock. Sit back in a comfortable Adirondack chair at the cliff's edge and watch the fun of the season on the water in front of you. What you’ll notice about The Camp at Barney Point is that it offers plenty of space for family time, inside and out of doors - on land and water.

Walk the 2-3 minute meandering path through the woods to the association beach—with amazing southerly views to the most expansive section of Lake Champlain—perfect for lounging or launching kayaks, paddleboards, or other water toys. The lake access here offers clean, shallow water and a sandy bottom—great for kids.

Are you looking for an opportunity while on vacation to actually use the lake instead of just gazing at it?! This vacation destination includes numerous amenities that you'd typically find only at an all-inclusive summer resort. Use The Camp’s guest boat mooring, swim platform, rowboat, paddle boards (4), floats, or kayaks (4). Paddling along the shore to explore the bay, Law Island, and the tip of Colchester Point to the north - or the Winooski River and Burlington Bay to the south - are sure to delight guests of all ages.

Or walk, run or bike the Island Line Trail, a 5-mile scenic wonder, offering access points adjacent to The Camp. This continues north to South Hero, VT when the bike ferry is running, or south to Burlington, another 7.5 miles of scenic beauty! Wonderful Airport Park is just down the road, offering tennis, pickleball, basketball, a historic schoolhouse (hours vary), and running trails - great for adults, kids and pets.

The Camp sleeps 14 - a king bed in the 2nd floor master with direct access to a master bathroom with soaking tub overlooking the lake; 2 twins in a 2nd floor bedroom; 4 twins and a double bed in the 3rd 2nd floor bedroom; a king in the 1st floor bedroom with direct access to the 1st floor bathroom; and 2 twins in the main living area that by day form a seating/lounging area for games and reading.

The Camp offers an amazing kitchen with dishwasher, pantry, gas range, fridge with freezer and ice maker, and utensils/dishes for the largest of gatherings, as well as Silestone bar/seating for 6 in a u-shape. A full W&D is offered on the 2nd floor. The Camp has 2 bathrooms, each with shower. The main en-suite Master bath also has a vintage soaking tub overlooking the lake. There is an outdoor shower as well.

The main floor gathering areas offer ample seating for dining, conversation and games. There is a large, wooden dining table with seating for 10-12. In addition, there is 'living' seating for a larger gathering. Views abound from every room, with the screened and outdoor porches and decks offering an extension of the gatherings inside. The Camp offers modern, outdoor composite dining and Adirondack seating. Ample off-road parking is offered, as is a great deal of privacy. Warm up in front of the wood stove, framed by The Camp’s original brick chimney, on those cooler evenings.

The Camp at Barney Point offers more than just a place to stay; the list of inclusions is a true differentiator:

*great mix of comfortable furnishings with American antiques sprinkled throughout

*linens and towels included
*starter packs of all vacation home essentials included

Will not disappoint!

Barney Point is on point! This lovely camp home is well appointed, adorably decorated, has a fabulous yard and amazingly spectacular views! The home was very clean, the kitchen had every utensil/appliance/bakeware imaginable, even an electric hand mixer to make frosting for a birthday cake!! We had such a wonderful time hanging out on the lawn, the seating options allowed us enjoy meals together, play games, complete puzzles etc. The fire pit and provided firewood made for lovely evenings and added to the grand sunsets. Beds were super comfortable and plentiful. The house was in a great location for all we wanted to do and I was delighted and surprised by the causeway near by for my morning walks. We were 7 in total ranging from 12 to 74 years young.

Amazing sanctuary anytime of year

Fabulous break from reality, everything is there to soak up and enjoy no matter the weather.. This is our "happy" place. Explored the causeway this trip, the experience in nature is unmatchable~then back to our cozy cottage complete w/ sunset viewed happy hours over the water from the deck. A truly magical escape for the whole family. Thank you again Marilee and Burt!

Family Vacation

Our first time to Vermont and we loved everything about this place. We came in early June and got some colder weather so loved having the indoor fireplace in the mornings and evenings. The kids still swam and we enjoyed paddle boarding and riding bikes on the causeway close by. The views were beautiful, fun yard games, and lots of outdoor activities. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen had everything we needed. Would love to come stay again if we’re ever back in Vermont!

Perfect family stay

Probably the best family vacation stay we’ve ever had! Well stocked kitchen! Amazing views, wonderful places for everyone to hang out. Great coffee table for a big family puzzle when it rained. 5 min from grocery store, 3 min from pickleball courts, 3 min from the causeway. Very private and quiet. They had everything! Bikes are in great shape, paddle boards, kayaks, stunning yard. I’d give it 6 stars if I could. A family vacation with memories we will cherish forever!

Perfection

Such an idyllic location. To watch the sun setting over the lake each night was like a dream! It was so nice to relax in an Adirondack chair on this gorgeous property after an action packed day spent either out on the water or biking to Burlington or out on the picturesque causeway. The house itself is perfection. Rustic chic and so very cozy with a nook to accommodate everyone. We all loved it and hated to leave!

Wonderful house, beautiful views

We rented this house for my daughter's graduation from UVM in May. We had the family come and enjoy a meal out on the porch between her ceremonies on Sunday. We sat and enjoyed the many sunsets, very peaceful. The house is rustic and cozy and beautifully decorated with plenty of room to hang out. We actually played some music and danced from the great selection of CD's. I would highly recommend the place. Would love to come back and rent it during the summer when we could use the outdoor equipment such as the kayaks etc.

Fun

It was perfect.. sunsets beautiful. Had a fire in the fire pit most evenings and S’mores. The water toys were all used. Did have to travel a little path thru woods to the beach... not a problem. Did miss a clothes line to hang up towels and wet suits after a shower in the nice outdoor shower... but the only thing lacking. Beds have nice comforters... art work everywhere.. kitchen easy to use.. ... has that camp feel but very nicely updated

Lake Vacation Prime Location

After a few years of renting on Isle La Motte, we decided to move our family gathering closer to Burlington and found this gem of a house, or "camp" as it's called. The property is generously sized, well maintained inside and out and has everything anyone from ages 3 to 85 could need to have fun in all weather. The beds were very comfortable and the owners clearly gave a lot of thought to making it easy to share space in a house that is quite open all around. We made use of the bikes, the kayaks, the paddle boards, the boat mooring, the dock, the corn hole game, the ping pong table, the swings, the outdoor dining that seats 12, the TWO indoor dining areas that both seat 8-10 (the front porch was a big favorite at all hours of the day), the grill, the kitchen (best VRBO kitchen we have ever encountered; just a salad spinner away from being "perfect"!). This home is whimsical, interesting, utilitarian and comfortable. We highly recommend it for an intimate family gathering.

Amazing Week at this Spectacular Home

I can't say enough about this home! We rented the house for our daughter's graduation from the University of Vermont. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind with our family who had come together from all over! The living spaces are charming and comfortable and there was space for everyone to relax or join together for a meal, play a game (there were many to choose from) or just enjoy each other's company. The kitchen is well stocked-just like home! We had a small get together with our daughter's friends and families-the two grills, lawn games and furniture were perfect! The View was spectacular and the sunsets were as well. It did rain a lot that week but even in the rain the camp was cozy and warm, we ran the fireplace and the heater and it was perfect. We loved the beds, everyone commented on how comfortable they were slept very well! Finally, the owners were very responsive to any questions or concerns that we had. We are going to rent this again when our son graduates from UVM Medical School, can't wait to go back!

LOVE, we are obsessed!

This was our second stay at Barney Point and Burt and Marilee's gorgeous home! Cozy and inviting with spectacular views and anything and everything you would need- I mean literally! The beds were so comfortable-several of our guests had Oura rings or watches that monitored their sleep and they all recorded their best sleep scores ever! Our son was graduating from Medical School and we had a few of his friends and parents over for a cookout-everything you need to cook or entertain is there- platters, pitchers, two grills, coolers, lawn games, ping pong, board games, comfy chairs-all our guests fell in love. Another benefit is that it is very close to the bike trail and causeway and we took the bikes that are at the camp and were able to ride out everyday for exercise. Kayaks and paddleboards, life preservers etc. were also provided but it was too cold to do that. Finally the house is really spectacular, the architecture and design-it's an old camp that has been fixed up but maintains its original charm, character and feel. Since our last stay they have added mini split heating and air conditioning which helped as we had a few days of cold weather! Highly recommend!

In the top 5 of the best vacation spots we have experienced

The photos and description do not do this property justice. It is simply one of the most peaceful, beautifully designed, comfortable places we have enjoyed in our travels - which include many high end properties in and outside of the U.S. This one is, of course, different but is simply the most exquisite setting with the most comfortable camp-like interior design one could imagine. The comforts of this property are unmatched ~ its like a home you see In a movie and wish to experience. Well we did! French pressed hot coffee in the morning on the deck, zen-like paddle boarding on crystal clear waters w/ a personalized swim dock as your anchor, kayaking with Tahoe-like vistas, evening fires to play Scrabble by on a couch so comfortable we checked under the cushions for the brand name, CD's w/ great eclectic music choices, full kitchen for evening cooking ~ but if you don't feel up to it great restaurants in nearby Burlington for wonderful outdoor meals, views of Lake Champlain from practically every window(including the pantry), newly re-opened Colchester causeway trail right down the road with plenty of bikes, sunsets, fish to catch and herons galore. Think of a cross between On Golden Pond and Tahoe.. but better. If the interior of this house is ever in a movie we will not be surprised. Unusually windy and downright chilly by our last day there, which was glorious because of warm heat, indoor and outdoor fires and down comforters on each bed. Don' t get me started on the outdoor shower, the claw foot tub and what it feels like to sleep in the master with a rather balmy but heavy wind blowing thru screens our first night ~ in what felt like a "treehouse". We rather unexpectedly, found heaven in a quarantined world! We will be back!.

This was an absolutely phenomenal home for our family vacation on Lake Champlain. Burt and Marilee have truly thought of everything and gone out of their way to ensure a comfortable, fun stay. We loved being able to use the kayaks, paddle boards, floats, bikes and lawn games from the amazingly well stocked shed. There’s even a generous firewood supply for campfires and s’mores. The interior is beautifully decorated with an eclectic mix of furniture and antiques. The beds and linens are supremely comfortable. There are what feels like dozens of places to curl up and relax. The kitchen was the best equipped of any rental home I’ve ever experienced. The location is excellent, and the beach near the house is sandy and great for swimming and paddling. We wish we could have stayed longer!

The perfect lakeside retreat

We truly couldn’t have found a better place to unwind and make lasting memories with family. The Camp is a rustic gem—beautifully decorated, thoughtfully appointed, and surrounded by the calming sights and sounds of nature. From the moment we arrived, we felt at ease.We often find ourselves staying busy even on vacation, but something about this place made it effortless to slow down. It was the kind of stay that leaves you feeling refreshed and genuinely rejuvenated. We’re so grateful for the experience.
