Fair with Flair
I read the review complaining about missing pool tiles, and I have been thinking about what constitutes value in a vacation rental. I guess value occurs when reality meets expectations. My wife and I stayed at Cocobolo for eight nights in March, followed two weeks later by four days in Cancun. In such places as Maui and Cancun, the native people, plants and wildlife have been eradicated to make room for wall-to-wall hotels, each with its own private chunk of beach, a pool and a place to get drunk while being catered to by white-jacketed servants. If this is your idea of heaven, then by all means go to Maui. We found Trey helpful and friendly, attentive and supportive. He did not, however, make our drinks. Cocobolo is "in amongst 'em." The roads are terrible and dusty, but Cocobolo gets much less dust than does anyplace six miles away in Santa Teresa. We enjoyed buying local fish and produce in S.T. and Cobano, and picked up our de rigeur souvenir machete at the hardware store in Cobano. Trey took us fishing one day, and we drove the Pacific Coastal Highway, i.e. the beach at low tide, and we hit nearly 60 mph on the smooth, open sand. Of course, we had rented a car. The beaches are extensive and very sparsely populated, despite there being good fishing and a shallow, gradual, sandy slope into the water. I estimate I waded out 100 yards and was no more than waist-high, except when Manzanillo's famous surf came crashing in. Great for beachcombing, suntanning and cloud watching. Monkeys in the trees every day -- both howlers and white-faced. We saw violaceous trogons, cinnamon hummingbirds and other exotic-to-us birds. I don't know if the air conditioning worked, because we never turned it on. Lovely weather throughout. The "missing" screening around the pools was not missing. It was being installed, and the hooks had just been welded to the posts. There is no law against writing a negative review, but I can say we are happy the guests at the other villa were much less dour than our predecessor. Negative: the one thing that caught me off guard was that I expected somebody else's vacation house that was being let for weeks for income. Trey has three or four (didn't count 'em, and they are scattered) on the property. Would we go back? Probably not, but only because our history says we go forward. We had a great time. Thanks, Trey!

Spacious beach house in amazing location
Our stay at Trey's house was awesome. The location, North of the popular surf beaches of Mal Pais, was perfect for us - isolated enough to relax (and see tons of wildlife, including a dozen monkeys) but a quick drive to great restaurants. The beaches both to the north and south of the house are the most gorgeous I've ever seen bar none. The house itself is as described - totally functional for myself and my girlfriend. We also enjoyed the pool when we weren't at the beach. Trey seemed like a great guy - we'll be looking to come back when he opens his craft brewery! Recommended!

Great stay at Villa Cocobolo
We had a great stay at Trey's place. We lived in three different houses on our vacation in Santa Teresa . And this was definitely the best value for money. Thanks!

Fabulous!
My husband and I stayed here on our 3rd trip to Costa Rica. The house was beautiful, spacious and has everything you could possibly need. Trey and Jaclyn were amazing hosts that made sure that we were comfortable and felt welcome. The property is beautiful and we enjoyed watching the birds with our morning coffee and the howler monkeys with our evening cocktail at sunset. The view of the sunset is perfection. Just down the road from the house is one of the most beautiful beaches we have seen in Costa Rica to date and the town of Santa Teresa has everything you could possibly need as far as restaurants, nightlife, shopping, activities. This place is the best of both worlds because you are close to all of the action but you get to stay is a beautiful peaceful oasis up away from it all. We would absolutely recommend Villa Cocobolo to anyone!

Great adventure
Beautiful bi-level villa w/pool and view of the ocean. First time we've been to Costa Rica and we don't speak the language, so Trey (he lives on the property) helped us out a great deal with finding activities we were interested in, including: zip-lining, paddle-boarding, snorkeling, boating, and finding an animal reserve. He also showed us around town and helped us rent an ATV for getting around. Tips for anyone interested: you need to rent either suv, truck, or jeep to reach destination due to the very rough dirt roads, a GPS will be very helpful since there are many unmarked roads, rent an ATV to get around town, on your way into town stop at a local grocer in St. Teresa to pick up food for house.. Don't lose money doing an exchange at the airport like I did! Just use ATM machine to get what cash you think you might need, and a lot of places will accept american money anyway. Not many people speak English, so it would be wise to brush up on useful Spanish words & phrases before travel.
