About this property
Luxury Log Home - 25 Minutes To Skiing, Boating and Trails!
Black Buzzard Ranch is located one mile from the quaint and charming town of Collbran, this beautifully finished luxury log cabin on a 9-acre ranch is the perfect getaway for any season. The property lies less than half an hour from Grand Mesa National Park, home of the world’s largest flattop mountain with over 300 lakes and countless trails for hiking, mountain biking, ATVing and snowmobiling. Enjoy shorter lift lines and lower rates at nearby Powderhorn Ski Resort (25 minutes away) during the winter, or go fishing, camping, or boating 12 miles away at Vega Lake State Park in the summer. The home is located 50 minutes from the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
There is room for 11 guests with two spacious bedrooms, a loft with log bunkbeds, a pullout sofa and two and a half bathrooms. The living room has two-story windows with incredible views of the Grand Mesa and a propane fireplace. The house is equipped with Wi-Fi and a smart television equipped with free Netflix and Hulu. There is an ample workspace in the living room for those who work remotely. In the summer, you can cookout on the grill. At night, the star gazing opportunities are unbelievable with the low light pollution of the Plateau Valley while you listen to the sounds of Buzzard Creek at the southern edge of the property. For hunters, the ranch is situated between BLM land, state, and national parks, and includes plenty of options for elk, moose, big cat, deer, turkey, or bear hunting.
The small town of Collbran has two distinct restaurants and a small grocery store. Business hours may be limited, but the home accommodates your meal planning needs with a fully equipped kitchen, outdoor grill, and dinnerware for 24 – all you need to bring is food. In the winter, enjoy the luxury of radiant floor heating on every level. The house resides on a working ranch where we raise Highland cattle. Enjoy your morning coffee while watching the sunrise on the front porch from either the swing or one of the two log rockers. In the evening you can sip wine and watch the sunset on the cushioned lounge chairs on the back deck, which has park-like views of the pastures and the Grand Mesa in the background. Be sure to look out for the turkeys, deer, bald eagles, and blue herons that frequent the property. Occasional sightings also include black bear, coyotes, bobcats, and elk.
The home is family-friendly. It is equipped with a pack-n-play, booster seat, toys, and two retractable child gates on the main level, as well as outlet covers available. The gates to the main road can be closed while the kids romp and play on the lush, well-maintained lawn.
This house is the ideal place to host your larger gatherings of friends, family members, or even for just one family to enjoy this exquisite log home to themselves on a unique vacation in the western slope, far away from any crowds.

Why they chose this property
We discovered the ranch after a decade serving overseas, planning and saving for our dream retirement home. We found this home and fell in love, and look forward to the day we can eventually be there full-time and watch our son grow up in Collbran, such a friendly, down-to-earth and wholesome town. When we are home, the ranch serves as our getaway from where we are stationed on the eastern seaboard and lets us reconnect with our family nearby.
What makes this property unique
We were drawn to the beautifully constructed log home and the soaring ceilings, but we definitely fell in love with the land first, which is uniquely situated in a lush valley with two natural springs and Buzzard Creek supplying abundant water to its pasture. This creates ample opportunities for raising livestock and (eventually) pursuing our dream of creating a market farm and orchard using sustainable farming methods. We were attracted to its close proximity to town, even though the property still is quiet and secluded - two things which are not often found together.
