About this property
Scenic Getaway with Private Indoor Pool/Hot Tub on the GAP trail
Escape to Mount Savage Farm in the Allegheny Mountains of Western Maryland. Relax and appreciate the serenity of a 100 acre farm overlooking the small town of Mount Savage, MD. Enjoy the scenic vistas from the top of the mountain and breathe in the fresh mountain air.
The farm is a destination in itself with an indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, indoor gas fireplace, outdoor brick patio with grill and gas fire pit, and plenty of space to wander, find solitude, and watch the wildlife.
The spacious historic brick home was built in the 1820s and has a classic feel. There are 5 bedrooms including one family style room with a queen and trundle bed, 3 full baths, a family room and a formal living room with a baby grand piano. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and serve a large group. The dining room table seats twelve plus we have a breakfast nook in the family room and a bar area in the pool room. The office/sunroom on the second floor offers spectacular views making it a peaceful place to work or curl up with a book.
Behind the house and up past the pond, is direct access to the Great Alleghany Passage (GAP) hike and bike trail. Situated at mile marker 11 of the 150 mile trail, there is ample opportunity to hike, bike and enjoy the scenic views on one of the premier trails of the east coast. Check out the opportunities at https://gaptrail.org
For railroad enthusiasts, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad shares the GAP trail and passes through the property on its way from Cumberland, MD to Frostburg. Be sure to take a ride on the railroad and look for Mount Savage Farm as you pass by! For more adventure, do some railbiking - pedaling along the steel railroad tracks with your friends and family. Check out Tracks and Yaks at ridetherailbikes.com.
For those who like to venture, there is much to see and do within an hour driving distance of the farm. This mountainous region of western Maryland and Pennsylvania is home to ten state parks with expansive views, hiking trails, white water rafting and lakes for boating and fishing. Wisp and Seven Springs Resorts offer skiing in the winter and outdoor adventures such as zip lining and mountain coasters in the summer. Rocky Gap Casino is a short drive down the highway. There are plenty of Amish farms and businesses in the area for those who want to explore the rural lifestyle.
The Flight 93 Memorial is located 37 miles away across the Pennsylvania state line. Also in Pennsylvania, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwaters, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just over an hour’s drive.
For dining and shopping, the quaint town of Frostburg is less than ten minutes away and has several excellent restaurants and breweries. It is home to Frostburg State University, making this an ideal get away for families coming to visit. A little further down the road is historic Cumberland, MD. This is where the GAP Trail begins and the 184 mile C&O Canal towpath trail from Washington D.C. ends.
For everyone's security, we have several cameras on the property plus a door bell camera. One camera is located on the side porch overlooking the driveway and another camera monitors the entrance by the gates. A camera up at the shed overlooks the upper driveway. We have one camera looking out the back of the house and our final camera is in the pool area.

The indoor pool was a blessing for your group on a cold rainy holiday weekend! We're glad you enjoyed your time at Mount Savage and we look forward to hosting you again.
Many thanks to our hosts at The Farm in Mt. Savage, MD! We enjoyed every thoughtful touch of this beautiful home, from the comfy bedrooms to the incredible kitchen that had everything you could possibly need. The pool was so amazing too! We all enjoyed the outside of the property as well, including the chance to watch the Scenic Mountain Railroad train pass by at the top of the hill. The home gave the secluded feel of being 'on your own mountain', yet is close to roadway into LaVale and Cumberland. We will surely be returning to enjoy again!

I'm glad you enjoyed being on top of the mountain with the beautiful views! We love watching the train steam through the property as well as the Traks and Yaks railbike excursions. We look forward to hosting you again in the future. Thank-you for being such great guests!
This house was a stay for my family to get together and build memories with my 87 year old mother . It did exactly that. We were greeted by the amazing host, Pat, and had an open line of communication for our booking. We enjoyed her homemade cookies, bread and wine welcome basket. The property is located on a beautiful farm with an amazing pond. Our kids and grandkids fished both days. They loved the tadpoles and salamanders as much as the fish. The home is beautifully decorated, and everything we could’ve possibly needed for our memorable stay was provided. We can’t say enough about the pool and all the fun the kids had there. The beds were amazingly comfortable and bedrooms were so beautiful. The cleanliness of the home was my top priority and it met all my expectations. This home is something we hold dear as a family memory !

We are thrilled that you made such good memories at Mount Savage Farm. We love that you fished and the children found salamanders and tadpoles. I think there might be a turtle up there as well! I'm especially happy that you mentioned how clean the house was. My housekeeper goes above and beyond to keep everything in such great shape. I will share your comments with her.
The property and hosts exceeded our expectations! This property is amazing!!! The hosts certainly pay attention to every detail! Beautiful setting and the indoor pool is truly outstanding! I would give this property my highest recommendation! We look forward to our next visit there!

Thank you for your wonderful review. The indoor pool is definitely a highlight. Especially in the winter months when it’s cold outside and toasty warm in the pool area.
We enjoyed meeting you and truly hope you will journey back to Mountain, Maryland soon!
This place is amazing and so are the hosts. Anything you could need they already thought of and had and more. The house is beautiful and so are the surroundings, the pool was relaxing and so was the hot tub. We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday with some friends and had an amazing time. Pat and Dan were outstanding throughout our trip. We would love to go back again.
Returning for our 2nd Christmas week at Mt. Savage Farm was as wonderful as expected. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas, our hosts left us a welcome basket of wonderful treats, a fully equipped kitchen and wonderfully appointed bedrooms, baths, office, den and totally outfitted indoor pool, outdoor hot tub and fire pit and stick for s’mores.

Thank you for the wonderful review and for posting photos. I love how the kids decorated the tree! Looks like a wonderful Christmas! FYI, we had snow just after you left.
This stay was truly fantastic from start to finish. Check-in and check-out were incredibly easy, with clear instructions and outstanding communication from the host every step of the way.The home is beautiful, welcoming, and stocked with every amenity you could want. The private indoor pool was absolutely amazing and quickly became everyone’s favorite feature. The hot tub was perfect for unwinding, and the fire pit made evenings especially memorable, roasting marshmallows was such a treat. This property is a gem, and we’re already looking forward to booking a return visit in the near future.
This was a wonderful anniversary weekend getaway. Beautiful, spotless, and completely quiet. Friendly, attentive, and considerate hosts. Pat knew it was our anniversary and left a sweet note along with a basket of champagne and other treats. The indoor pool was immaculate, large, and relaxing. The hot tub was warm and inviting on the cold winter nights. In the evening, we went into the town of Frostburg, which was just a few minutes away, where we had drinks. The kitchen had everything we needed for the nights we cooked. We can't wait to stay again. It was perfect. Thank you?

We had a spectacular time at the Reeder's property! I was in charge of cooking for a rehearsal dinner at a local venue the kitchen was perfect. Plently of corners and gadgets. My adult children and husband loved the pool area and walking trails around the property. The property is functional, relaxing, and full of great places to be alone.

Thank you for renting from us again! Our housekeeper said that you left the place in excellent condition, once again. We look forward to having you back.
What an INCREDIBLE homestead. We had a large family gathering for a wedding in the area. They have truly thought of everything! Floating vest for all sizes, forks for the masses, towels and comfy beds, toys for the kids and every convenience of home your heart could desire! Owners very attentive and considerate. It could not have been any better! Thank you and we will stay again!
Pat and Dan provided everything but the food your going to eat and the clothing your going to wear. They have all aspects of your time away covered, from the toys your little ones will play with to the infant Tylenol when and if they get sick, every size flotation device for your little ones. They truly had a solution for whatever situation would arise. Thanks Pat and Dan for going the extra mile to provide for your guests. Thanks -Chasity

Thank you for the wonderful review. We do try to make your stay pleasant and stock everything you might need to cook for your family and for everyone to enjoy the pool. I do keep two first aid kits, but I must confess I didn’t know there was infant Tylenol at the house. It was left by a former guest. I generally don’t stock medicine for babies - especially because most parents don’t like to share the syringes. And luckily, we do have a Dollar General less than two miles away from the house where folks can get whatever I have forgotten 😄. We’re glad you had such a good weekend.
This was a great place for our family to be together for Thanksgiving. Beautiful house, spacious and clean, with everything we needed to make our meals. Gracious hosts. My grandchildren loved being able to swim, even with outside temperatures in the 20s.
Wonderful stay in a beautiful, fully equipped home. Six children between 5 & 16, and 4 adults loved the pool and hot tub! No need to go anywhere, we hated to leave. All in all our favorite family vacation.

This was our second stay at Mount Savage Farm. The home is stunningly beautiful, very clean, comfortable and has every amenity. We enjoyed walking and riding the GAP trail right from the property. The pool was warm and the perfect place to wind down after a busy day. The kitchen is extremely well stocked with every appliance or utensil. We enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful views! Pat and Dan are quick with answers to any questions. We will be back!!
Enjoyed our stay! Home was extremely clean, kitchen was well stocked and lots of entertainment provided (pool, hot tub and outdoor games). Dan & Pat (hosts) were very attentive to our needs and questions about the surrounding area.
Great time had by all!

We had a great time celebrating my dad’s birthday at this house. Plenty of room for 3 generations of family. Kids loved the pool. Everything was well stocked for entertaining kids from basketball court to pool toys. The owners left us some brownies and a bottle of wine which was nice. Beautiful views from the property.
Our group (consisting of all adults, mostly couples) stayed for the weekend of Valentine's Day, and the attention to detail was impeccable. It was a completely effortless check in and everything was clearly labeled and easy to find/use. Our whole group was thrilled with the spacious interior, and we all used the heated indoor pool and hot tub despite the cold and snowy weather this weekend. Pat was extremely friendly easy to communicate with and we plan to come back to this house again soon!
