About this property

River's Bend Cabin Offers Solitude and Play on the Upper James River

Escape to River’s Bend Cabin nestled on the bluff over the Upper James River! Admire the sunrise over the mountain from the screened-in porch or just sleep in and have a picnic at the river beach later. You will have access to kayaks and canoes and are welcome to bring your own paddle boats, fishing gear or mountain bikes (no ATVs or motorized vehicles). There are ample walking trails where you will likely spot deer, turkeys, otters, geese and even an eagle occasionally. Explore wetlands, forests and cornfields or curl up with a good book while you let the kids feed the chickens. We are blessed with beautiful views and dark skies in a peaceful paradise and welcome the chance to share with you.
River’s Bend is located near Eagle Rock which allows central access to recreational areas, vineyards and historic sites in Buchanan, Roanoke, Lexington, Covington and Alleghany County. Ask us about touring an historic Kanawha Canal lock on adjacent private farmland. We can arrange a private fly fishing lesson, river trip or even mountain bike rides through northern Botetourt county.
There are three bedrooms and two baths that can comfortably accommodate six (6) guests. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, Bedroom 2 has a king bed (separated into twins at your request) and Bedroom 3 has a queen bed; air mattresses are also available. The kitchen is fully equipped. An open concept design features a fireplace (gas logs) with stone chimney visible from the kitchen, dining and living rooms. There is a game room in the loft equipped with pool table, ping pong table, board games and more. The back deck has a gas grill and ample seating areas overlooking the James River.

The log cabin was rustic, but very relaxing, and had everything normally needed. The host was probably the most accommodating I have experienced in many stays. Very limited food in proximity to the cabin. Bring what you need.

Amazing would be an understatement, Beth goes above and beyond for her guests. The cabin is very secluded and right on the river. She gives you access to the property that most wouldn't. Probably one of my best experiences with an owner and I'm not exaggerating. I highly recommend this get away to anyone 100 times over. The cabin itself is very nice and comfortable. Peaceful and laid back just like described. Alot of wildlife and exquisite scenery from the front porch. Everything you need is there. Loved the game room upstairs as well. Look forward to being back soon!

Bad weather, but enjoyed our stay

Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate during our stay, but the well stocked cabin gave the family plenty of entertainment inside and warm around the fireplace.

Comfortable & quiet retreat

Beth was incredibly accommodating providing everything needed and more to have an enjoyable and quiet retreat for a small work retreat. With plenty of comfortable seating areas, open layout, and peaceful landscape, I’d recommend this listing to anyone looking to get away for a few days.

The property was so much fun, with a laid back, welcoming feel. The owners were very responsive when messaged. We hiked, kayaked and grilled. There was plenty of space to explore and walk around. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. You get much more than just a place to stay, you get a whole experience (as long as you enjoy the outdoors!)

staying at Riversbend

The property was amazing and we had a great time. Exploring the trails by the river was so much fun. We saw 3 bears during our stay, turkeys, fish, and hundreds of other animals at the animal Safari nearby. The peaceful starry nights were spectacular, especially to watch the meteor showers. The pool table and pingpong table were a big hit when it was too hot to enjoy the outdoors. Thanks so much for your hospitality.

Family vacation

We absolutely loved our stay . The cabin was beautiful, clean and cozy . We enjoyed the beautiful scenery surrounding the cabin . It is a great place to unwind and enjoy the peace of nature. We had great communication with the owner. The only challenge I would say that we were expecting the river access to be easily accessible at the back deck . It ended up working out because the river was still a

Best way to spend new year's eve

With the pool table, ping pong table, oversized checkers, a warm fireplace, watching the ball drop on the TV, and falling asleep on an extremely comfortable bed in a beautiful cabin with lake views was a fantastic way to spend our new year's eve. Thank you!

River's Bend Cabin

It was a quick getaway but we totally had fun! Elizabeth was a great host. She showed us the lay of the land when we checked in and was available to answer questions. The cabin was very modern, beds were super comfortable, all amenities you can think of were there. The only thing I wish the cabin had was access to the river from the backyard. All in all, it was a great couple of days and we enjoyed the cabin and the surrounding land. We will definitely come back.

Amazing Retreat!

A couple friends and I went fishing on the upper James and rented the River's Bend cabin. What a fabulous place! The cabin was clean, spacious, and well-appointed with everything we needed for a 3-day getaway. There are beautiful views of the river from the multi-level back deck and the screened in porch overlooking the mountains was a great spot for a nap or evening cocktail. Our host Elizabeth was top notch!! She provided a wealth of information in advance, was very responsive to all of our questions, and ensured we had everything we needed. I seldom leave reviews but this experience was so good that I needed to share. Thanks Elizabeth and hope to be back in the spring!

Serenity!

This property is an absolute Gem! The Cabin is beautiful and had plenty of space. We had 3 adults and 4 dogs, yes 4 dogs. They enjoyed roaming the property and sprinting down to the river for a swim. We only left the property once for a bite and found multiple dog friendly restaurants! Beth was truly amazing, greeted us when we got there and gave us some tips and recommendations on things to do! Plus! On our way out we were stopped by a large tree branch covering the road. I gave Beth a call and she had that thing removed in no time! She is way more than a host and I’m truly impressed. We will be returning to this property in the future!

River’s Bend was one of our favorite western VA cabin stays to date. Its location is unique - remote enough for dark skies and the sounds of wildlife, with the thrill of the train when it makes its way through the tunnel under the property. The cabin is so cozy, the beds firm and very comfortable. I slept so well every night. We loved the screened in porch, and the river lookout off the tiered back deck. The host assured our comfort with plenty of blankets, pillows and quilts. Everything was clean and easy to find/use. We hiked the mowed trails and explored the remnants of the last James River Lock on the property. So cool!
Very comfortable sleeping in the primary bedroom - so cozy!

Quiet comfy cabin

Cabin has comfortable seating in living area, well-equipped kitchen and bathrooms. We enjoyed reading the many books available, playing checkers, ping pong and pool. Owner is great- very responsive and helpful. Access to the river is not what we expected. To reach the stone beach, we walked down a grassy field, through a path in the woods, down a steep muddy slope holding onto a rope railing, then through a dry marsh area. To put the kayaks in the water, there’s a second route to the river along a grass path about 300 yards. To get into the kayak one must sink into 8-10” of thick mud. There’s no other place to step in order to get into the kayak. Once on the river, the water is lovely, plenty of fish to catch, and there’s no one else around so it’s peaceful.
