About this property
Clayton's 1910, Completely Restored Mill House, business-friendly weekday rtes
Clayton's 1910 mill house has been in our family for almost 100 years. We took all our experience on VRBO and totally updated it, combining the best of the new while keeping the atmosphere of days gone by.
Business-Friendly Stay: Fast Wi-Fi, Work Desk, Quiet and peaceful setting with discounts for weekday stays.
Relax on the front porch rockers overlooking the small lake or enjoy the sun setting on the deck where it is not unusual to see deer in the evenings.
On the inside, we have updated every room. Enjoy your favorite movie on the 70-inch TVs located in the living room and bedroom.
Clayton's house was built by The Virginia Mills Company in 1910. The mill burned down but some of the houses remain. This one has been in our family for almost 100 years.
In 2021/2022 we took our experience with VRBO to create an experience that we hope you will love. Everything is totally renovated yet we kept the atmosphere of a 1910 house. Several pieces of furniture are original to the house, such as the pie safe.
Whether you are coming to the area to relax or work you will find this house an excellent choice.
The living room features two leather couches, a gas fireplace, a 70 inch smart TV, games, Alexa, and Alexa-enabled lights to create a variety of settings and moods.
The bedroom has a king-size memory foam mattress, room darkening shades, a 70 inch TV, charging plugs for your phones and tablets, Alexa to play your favorite music, and Alexa-enabled lights. We even have two beds for your pets should you need them.
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook including oven, microwave, and air fryer along with locally sourced coffee and many spices.
The bathroom was completely remodeled and features a rain shower.
The second bedroom is small but features two bunk beds and a Jeffersonian-era desk and a mailbox lamp, which was chosen because Clayton had mailbox 1 when Swepsonville had a post office.
Outside, the property is one acre. The front porch overlooks the small lake, and on weekends in the summer, local bands usually play at the Swepsonville Market, which is across the lake. When playing, you can sit on the porch and listen to the music or walk across the lake and hear the band firsthand.
On the back deck, you can relax with the fire pit during the evenings or grill your favorite food. The backyard is fenced in if you are bringing your pets
If you own an electric car, we have a level 2 EV charger installed with J1772 and Tesla adapter for your convenience.
There are a lot of things to do located within a short distance. Saxapahaw is a restored mill town just 10 minutes away. It features Haw River Farmhouse Ales, The Eddy Pub, Haw River Ballroom, Rivermill (which is a 146-year-old former cotton mill), the Saxaphaw General store, and plenty of outdoor hiking. Clayton's place is only minutes from Burlington, Graham and Mebane and 30 minutes to Raleigh.

About the host
Hosted by Mike Vitamvas

I'm supposed to be retired but I have found I love buying and fixing up houses for VRBO. I have owned a variety of businesses and still am involved in several online ones. In my spare time, I enjoy sailing, swimming, hiking, and camping. My grandchildren have come to love those things as well, especially camping.
Why they chose this property
I have stayed in a number of short-term rental properties in addition to managing the ones we have and have taken that knowledge when updating this house.
The house was built in 1910 by The Virginia Mills Company and has been in my wife's family for almost 100 years. It was my goal when renovating the house to keep the charm while creating a modern experience.
This was accomplished in many ways, from refinishing the original hardwood floors to the gas fireplace installed using the original bricks and the creation of the kitchen and bathroom.
The house is close to dining and shopping while providing a glimpse into life in the early 1900. The front porch has two rockers which provide a great place to unwind and maybe read a book. In the evenings you can sit on the back deck and enjoy watching the sunset while keeping warm by the fire.
If you want to watch your favorite movies or shows we have you covered with 70 inch TVs in the bedroom and living room. For music just say Alexa play and the name of your favorite artist. The house also has Alexa-enabled lights, most of which can be dimmed or can change colors.
The shower is a rainfall shower, which is a really unique experience. I think you will find this house to be one of your favorite options when visiting the area.
