Our family began visiting BR and The Toccoa river in 2014 when a friend invited us to stay with her parents who own the last cabin on The Toccoa before it reaches Lake Blue Ridge. We amazed that only 90 miles from Atlanta and we felt like we were in Colorado. It was magical with the trees and the winding road leading the cabin. I was in love with the town of BR and the fellow owners on Trout Lane. During that wknd getaway, I was determined to find a property on this stretch of the river which is surrounded by national forest. The challenge was there was only 10 lots and the homes had been passed down for generations to family members. After several trips over a few years, the opportunity came in 2016 when a family decided to sell their cabin as it need a lot of TLC & renovations. I will never forget driving to BR meeting the family with my husband and son. We were so blessed that they thought of us and allowed us to buy directly from them. Immediately after the closing, we went back to the cabin and began pulling up the carpet in the bedrooms and cutting down the many overgrown bushes and trees that covered the home. Over the next 24 months, we underwent a major renovation taking the cabin to the studs to replace plumbing and electric as the original cabin (back of home) was built in the 1960s with an addition completed in the 1980s. We made the decision on every piece of wood, stain, stone, door handles, shelves, furniture and blankets. Our son was only 4 and was there with us every step of the way working on the home and deciding on every detail. We have so many memories in the walls of our home on The Toccoa & have spent every Thanksgiving and NYE in our home since the year we purchased the property. Our family will always cherish the memories we have created with the special friends and neighbors on Trout Lane. With some families we have entertained they have also fallen in love with BR and have also purchased homes in the mountains.
