About this property
Great Fishing, Gorgeous Views, Private Cabin on Pelican Lake
Explore this popular fishing lake that has hosted the 2021 Champions Tour pro bass tournament, the 2020 MN State High School bass fishing championship and 2024 Student Angler Tournament. Set back into the mature pine forest, you will enjoy privacy with amazing views. At the edge of Voyagers National Park, Pelican is minimally developed with gorgeous islands to add drama and beauty to the nearly 12,000 acre fishing lake destination.
The cabin was originally part of a summer camp and is one of the few original buildings that remain. Decorated in the style of "midcentury-modern camp," it is cute and fun, with a well-stocked, large kitchen that opens up to the living and dining area. The spacious master bedroom and ensuite bathroom offers amazing views of the lake with abundant space for storage. The bunk room has two sets of twin bunk beds with closet space and shelving for all. We provide clean bed linens, a few towels, and firewood.
As cute as the cabin is, most guests spend their time at the lakeside multilevel recreation area. Choose your spot to relax - around the fire with great lake views, on the dock to watch nature or fish, on the upper level with even better views, or on the perfectly positioned hammock. Walk the 400 ft of wooded shoreline in the water or on the nature path through the woods and you will likely see the resident eagles' giant nest on the point less than 200 ft away from our property line. There is a picnic table with benches and chairs, lounge chairs to kick back in, folding aluminum chairs to take anywhere you want, stand up paddle boards and a canoe to access the water. A Crestliner fish and ski boat is available to rent.
Frequently guests comment on how refreshed they feel after being here. You may unknowingly experience "forest bathing" that you'd notice upon leaving - it is like feeling clean from the inside out and is pretty awesome. We hope you choose the Red Pine Retreat for your "up north," experience and look forward to hosting you.

About the host
Hosted by Heidi Soll
I am Heidi from St Paul MN and when I come up here, I just chill out. My ideal day is laying in bed observing the morning light through the trees, then making coffee, walking down to the dock for some yoga and quiet time while watching the sun rise over the point. The rest of my day is about the same. It is a very relaxing and beautiful place.
Why they chose this property
Woods, water, west-facing, and geographic beauty on par with Voyageur's National Park
Woods: This property has 2 acres of woods with old red and white pine stands sheltering their baby trees that are regenerating everywhere. The nature walk along the shoreline through the trees has a cleansing effect on me, and I hope you can feel that too.
Water: The lake is famous for great fishing and our location is on the map - you can just walk out into the water with waders or fish from the dock. Pro bass fishermen were photographed along our shore, so its good. We also have a great all-around boat for rent if you'd like to get out on the lake for cruising, tubing or fishing. We have a two person canoe for our guests to use freely as well.
West-facing: Pelican Lake is over 11,000 acres and we are situated on the east side of the lake facing west out into its vast beauty. There are three islands in view and it's just gorgeous. The fire pit is down by the water where you can relax and watch the setting sun trade places with all the colors of the famous "pelican skies."
Voyageur's National Park, Minnesota's only, is a 30 minute drive to Crane Lake. Alternatively, drive north about the same distance to access it from Kabetogama. The park is all water, so you will need a boat or to rent one, ours stays on Pelican. But it is truly beautiful untouched northern forest and big water up there.
If you need a few amenities? No problem, Orr is less than 10 minutes away where you can find a grocery store, post office, restaurants, liquor and hardware store. For a few more amenities, Cook is a 25 minute drive.
There are great local hiking trails, waterfalls, outlooks and the Vince Shute Bear reserve should not be missed.
