Arrived to a caustic burnt smell...
according to the owner, the "cleaner's helper" MIGHT have burnt something in microwave. We were asked to wait for the cleaner to come back back to deal with it. Though we checked in after 5pm and wanted to go for dinner, we now had to wait for the cleaner, so decided to have a glass of wine. The first (wet, dirty) glass we took out of cupboard had visible sputum on it. Yes, really.
The house is neglected. The windows don't seal properly so you can't open the shutters/blinds or all the heat escapes, window latches are broken off, white paint is scratching off poorly painted doors, kitchen sink doesn't drain and a leg on one kitchen chair collapses if moved. The fully stocked kitchen contains the best cooking gear that Value Village and the Dollar Store have to offer.
On check-out morning, we were messaged that the check-out time was one hour earlier than the ad for the property states and that the cleaning person would arrive promptly at 10am. The owner's message to us, "remember, leaving the property in a clean and tidy condition is not only courteous to the host but also helps endure a positive experience for future guests."
Oh, but the hardwood floors in the living room are nice. So there's that.
BTW: The microwave had to be replaced, and the burned smell hung in kitchen for days. Owner blamed the cleaner, and asked for photos of the wine glass with the sputum. Other that a "sorry for the inconvenience you experienced", no accountability from owner.
