About this property
Charming lakefront cottage with private beach and boat dock.
Nestled in the trees overlooking Seneca Lake and next to a glen, you will love our beautiful lake and sunset views and falling asleep to the sound of trickling water. The large private beach and boat dock are a rarity in the area. There is lots of room to wade from the shore into the refreshing cool water – or jump from the dock, in unison, on the count of 3, like we do! Bring your boat or rent one from one of the several nearby marinas. There is also a company that will bring kayaks, canoes or paddleboards right to the cottage with all the necessary gear. Enjoy a BBQ on the beach at the picnic table or sitting around the fire bowl, late into the evening. It’s easy to stay in, making meals in the well-stocked kitchen but also fun to explore the many restaurants, breweries and wineries nearby. The Seneca Lake wine trail starts just up the road and Watkins Glen is less than 10 minutes away. Ithaca or Corning are both around 30 minutes and offer a wide variety of additional things to do; hiking trails, waterfalls, Corning glass museum, and of course, more wineries! Peak season occupancy is set for 7 nights minimum but ask about shorter trips. Especially Sun - Wed. I will try to accommodate you.
High speed wireless internet works well. Smart television and expanded cable provided. All Major cell phones carriers seem to work fine. No local land phone line.
MAX OCCUPANCY IS 4.
Spacious primary bedroom with a king-size bed, full bathroom & second bedroom upstairs (double bed). Queen size bed and additional full bath on first floor. We find the Upstairs/downstairs a nice split for couples.
I provide high quality sheets, plenty of pillows all encased in breathable allergen covers, blankets and decorative quilts & shams for all beds. 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels and 2 washcloths left for each guest. Please bring your own beach towels.
Shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, dish soap, paper towels, cleaning supplies, trash bags and toilet paper provided. Various spices, oil, vinegar, condiments left but not guaranteed.
History:
The cottage was originally built in 1910 as a bunk room for a larger family cottage next door and over the years several additions /improvements have been added, though the vintage charm remains. The oldest part, we now call the front living room, opens onto a covered porch overlooking the lake. The original bunks were made of logs like the porch railings and were replaced years ago. We just can’t bring ourselves to eliminate the bunk altogether. The kitchen with its wrap around windows, and small upstairs bedroom were added in the 30’s. The larger living/dining room in the back, added in the 70’s, has a fireplace & baseboard heating. The primary bedroom & kitchen have baseboard heat, too.

Why they chose this property
This cottage and the one next door have been in the family since the early 1900's. As are many of the older cottages , it is a true conglomeration of the many generations who have loved it over the years. It is quirky and the complete antithesis of "HGTV" but offers a unique and tranquil setting with a fantastic private beach and dock hard to find along the lake today.
