The cabin offers central AC and heating, fireplace, a full kitchen, 3 TVs, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and a wrap-around deck perfect for dining and wildlife watching.
The space
This stylishly updated cabin includes two large bedrooms, one bathroom, and a sleeping loft. The full kitchen is stocked with everything you need to prepare delicious meals that can be enjoyed inside or outside where the ponderosa pines sway in the breeze and give you endless views of the vast forest. This cabin has a private driveway and a secluded spot dug into the side of the mountain that will make you feel free to relax as you listen to the woodpeckers softly drumming in the day and crickets chirping at night. If you stay very quiet, there is even a small fox that can be see exploring the property from time to time. The inside was remodeled in May 2022 and includes fresh bedding, new paint and flooring, comfy couch, 3 Roku TVs, and wifi. Bedroom 1 has a king bed, bedroom 2 has a queen bed and a pack-n-play crib, and the loft has two twin beds. The cabin has central air conditioning, central heat, and a wood pellet fire place with thermostat if you prefer for it to heat the cabin. Outside is a gas grill and gas firepit. There are miles of hike and bike trails in the national forest within walking distance or a very short drive. Albertsons grocery is only 2.5 miles away.

Felt like home

Great cabin, just as listed, very clean. Wonderful place to stay, felt secluded which was what we were looking for but still very close to town. The place has pretty much everything you need and the host was very attentive

Holiday Retreat

We had an awesome time at the cabin! Much needed time for relaxing and reconnecting with the college kids. We had everything we needed! Super close to town but still away and in the mountains.

Amazing!!

Cabin is amazing and Alison was great about communicating and letting us know about all the deer and elk that come by. She was nice enough to even let us check in earlier before our check in time grateful for that as well. Definitely was a good view and beautiful area.

Perfect and affordable

Cabin is very nice with everything you need. Weather was perfect! Location is just outside of town with other cabins around but spread out. Saw elk everywhere and deer every day. Great hiking trails near by. It was exactly what we were hoping for! We already want to go back.

Great Cabin in a great location

The cabin is really nice with an awesome deck. Deer wander right by. The location puts you right in the Lincoln National Forest. Trees obscure view of neighboring cabins and creates a very peaceful experience. That said, access to Ruidoso's down town shops and restaurants is just minutes away. The owners are responsive and helpful with offers of help and local recommendations.

Just great!

We've stayed in the area a number of times over the past several years. This cottage was as described, clean, comfortable, and pleasant. We spent a good bit of time on the large deck, looking out into the trees and across to the mountain peak. Alison was very responsive and even offered recreational and restaurant input! The only thing that would have made it more perfect would have been a longer range view; but what we had was very enjoyable.

Perfect cabin for a family

We stayed at this cabin for a couple of days and absolutely loved it. From booking to check in was flawless. The cabin itself was located in a great area but not too far to get into town. The patio was the perfect setting for morning coffee and relaxation. The loft in the cabin was so great for my kids and toys for them to play with during our downtime. All tvs had access to different streaming services…plus you didn’t have to try and login with your own accounts and try to remember passwords lol! The hostess was so wonderful and gave recommendations from restaurants to entertainment. The cabin itself was so great, clean and cute. We will definitely be staying again. Overall we had a fantastic experience and stay!

About the host

Hosted by Alison Genotte

Host profile image
We love spending time in New Mexico, its beautiful landscape and rich heritage. Our kids love the wildlife, and we love the awesome trails and magnificent sunsets. We are spoiled with all the amenities of a bigger city, but the calm and connectedness we desire, from the people to the land.

Why they chose this property

Location! The cabin sits high up off the road, offering the best views of the forest, lots of privacy and more serenity. The Cedar Creek neighborhood is known for its ideal location. The landscape is beautiful, quiet, safe and private, but only a few minutes from the activity in town and out of town. ( 8 minutes from midtown, 1mi from the trailheads, 12 min to Grindstone, 10 min to Alto and 35 min to Ski Apache)
Enjoy the shade or sun from the wraparound porch: perfect for coffee, evening grilling, wildlife watching and kid exploration. Very safe, open area for kids, no thru traffic. Evening strolls or bike rides through the neighborhood are a perfect way to end the day.

What makes this property unique

The Elk and Hare Mountain Cabin is surrounded by Lincoln National Forest. You drive through the National Forest to get to the cabin. Most houses in Ruidoso are in the city and this cabin is only a 5 to 10 min drive to the city but feels very secluded. The perfect spot for coffee or a night cap around the fire pit.
