About this property
Cozy cabin stay in the Louisiana swamp
The Gator Getaway is the perfect escape from reality located in the swampy town of Manchac, Louisiana. It is the ideal place for a stay near the water with no boat required! The historic building was the original Church of Manchac and was remodeled into a home. Located within walking distance to the famous Middendorf's Restaurant! Also nearby is the public boat launch, Sun Buns river bar boat taxi, and other local favorite spots! Located about 40 miles outside of New Orleans.
The house is a cozy one bedroom, one bathroom home with a pull out couch (with a mattress topper) in the living room. The outdoor patio area is the perfect place to relax, enjoy the company of friends and family, or even appreciate some alone time while listening to the sounds of the swamp.
There is plenty of room for parking vehicles and boats in front of the house and even along the street. The Gator Getaway is road accessible only but with plenty of space to park a boat and trailer. The public boat launch is only one minute away!
All guests will be provided with bug spray and other repellents to help with Louisiana mosquitos while enjoying the outdoors. However, guests should be aware that this is located in the swamp and outdoor insects are only controllable to an extent. The house is located near railroad tracks and guests may hear a train pass through from time to time. The schedule is unpredictable so it varies for each stay.

Our stay was a great short , relaxing get away . Got locked out on the first night. ( perm ink code on you ) took over an hr to get the code. After that hiccup , the rest of our stay was great. Train … for real. It was comical the way every thing shook as the train passed. Grass needed to be cut , that was my only complaint.
We loved our stay in this cozy little cabin! It was exactly as described, clean, and full of charm. The owner was kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. The elevated porch was the perfect spot to relax, and the peaceful surroundings made it feel like a true getaway. We’d happily stay here again!
We really like the cozy cabin. Had everything we needed for our stay could not asked for more. Good location with places to eat and a few places to have a drink. Wish we could have stayed 2 nights instead of only one.
Had a wonderful weekend at the gator getaway! It was so easy to get in. The place was clean and quite cozy. It had everything you needed set out and easy to find one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in! Can’t wait to stay again
The host was very nice and responsive. And she's not kidding about the train being close! If you have severe motion sickness, this might not be the best place for you. Otherwise, it was kind of fun to have the house rock a little when the train passes. Lol
Was in the area on business. Stayed here to experience the area. Lovely cottage. Well appointed. Definitely recommended walking down to Mirrendorfs for turtle soup!

Lovely peaceful place to stay and a few local bars etc close by. Dont expect there to be aot to do but thats a nice thing sometimes
I really enjoyed my stay at this house! Very conveniently located. Just make sure you gas up as the nearest gas station is about 10 miles out.
Christen is an amazing communicator and keeps a nice place! Would love to stay again if possible. :)
We are a bit boring, so New Orleans got too much for us really fast. We thoroughly enjoyed staying off the beaten path and seeing the swamplands of southern Louisiana. The house is just precious. Plenty of room to relax and stretch out. Great communication from the owner, plenty of amenities, and Middendorf's at the end of the street was fantastic.Generously sized kitchen and fridge, ample space in the bedroom, comfy couch, and everything you'll need for overnight stays. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed the weekend for my husband's 50th birthday. The location is perfect. The cabin was very clean and the bed was quite comfortable. We walked to Middendorf's for dinner and the boat launch is a 5 min drive. It's on a side road and there is plenty of room to easily park with a boat in tow. We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the mornings and evenings. It was fun to watch the birds and the trains going through. Sunrises and sunsets are absolutely amazing in the swamp. Although it is south Louisiana and the insects will run you back inside. We got a kick out of the bug zapper in the bathroom. I can't wait to come back as we enjoy fishing there.

Couch had a very strong urine smell. A/C didn’t work well. 80 degrees in rental. After a long day on the water we wanted the A/C to work well. Very disappointing. TV fire stick did not work. Shower was nice. Location was nice.

Perfect location! If you want to go to the city, easy drive since it is right off interstate! Host was very nice and easy to contact. Loved the back porch area. You are in the swamp, so there are bugs. But, those will be wherever you go in Louisiana. There is a train behind the rental, but that isn’t a make or break and doesn’t disturb sleep! Some improvements would be to add a tv to the bedroom to block out train sound and cut away some overgrowth of the lawn area (these are just suggestions), but we would definitely come back regardless! Really loved the place and area!!

Disliked: Amenities
I could not get in touch with the host or anyone else regarding my needs. I was locked out and did not get a chance to do anything at the property location. I feel scammed.
The host did not provide any personal contact information and all electronic information was too late to be helpful.
