It's a wonderful place to stay if you want to be centered in the Puna District of Hawaii (Kalapana), which is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
This is a sunny spot of the island where there is less rain! Although it rains much less down here, our area remains green and beautiful. Many people come to Puna to visit Volcano National Park - home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows and beaches. There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, thermal ponds at Pohoiki, surfing/ snorkeling, whale watching due to migration to warm Hawaiian waters during winter months. You can often see them from land swimming off our beautiful coast and at the Kehena Beach view point. Many of my tenants tell me that they were able to swim w/ dolphins and you can too.
For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar' if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time.
Kilauea Volcano is just a 45-60 minute drive. In addition, the KaMauna Caves are on the way where you can walk through huge lava tubes.
The unit is situated in a safe, quiet & friendly Hawaiian neighborhood off Kalapana-Kapoho Rd.
This 3 BR / 1.5 BATH house & loft w/ an ocean view and within walking distance to a park situated on the coast w/ a spectacular ocean view, and Kehena Black Sand Beach.
There is a lot to see on our side of the island: 4-5 beaches, lava fields, fishing areas, Akaka, Kahuna and Rainbow Falls, Boiling Pots, hiking, Farmers Market (1/2 block away), Space Community Arts Center, Keck Observatory, Kilauea , Uncles Bamboo Tiki Bar w/ live music, cafes, food markets, Volcanoes Nat'l Park, Kamauna Caves and so much more.
My mission is to make sure that you have what you need to make your visit a happy, and memorable experience ! This is a great place to relax and enjoy nature. Many people come to Kalapana to 'get away from it all and breath clean air, eat great food, soak up the sunshine, exercise, commune with nature, and meet some wonderful people. So come and find out 'what the aloha spirit really is'. We invite you to come to one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Other accomodations are available as well, please inquire for details about our completely private studios attached to house on the side of building and Oceanfront cottages that are near by.

These are return guests w/ large family who stayed several weeks. If you leave food out, it attracts ants. Termites are a constant battle in the area and are treated yearly.
Great neighborhood. Quiet and beautiful view. This was a great location for what we wanted to do. Comfortable beds and well stocked kitchen. My only problem was we were trying to play games at the dining table and the lights were very dim. We used our cell phone flashlights to light it up more.

So glad they loved the place. It’s certainly a great value for what you get. We will have to put in brighter lights. It’s a comment we never heard before.
This was a great house in an out of town location for those looking for peace and quiet. No cell signal really and the beaches are more rocky than sandy but the locals are nice and there is a great farmers market. The house was awesome and communication with the owners was stellar.

There is an AT&T tower up the hill from us so that works best but there is a landline in the house and we offer free long distance to mainland.
We enjoyed this property while visiting our son . There was plenty of room for our family to be together. The location enabled us to go to the beach and hot ponds . It was a pleasurable experience. Thank you Andre and Susan for sharing your home with us .

Wonderfully off the map!!!!
I wanted to be able to relax and cleanse from my Oahu life, for my 30th birthday. I couldn't have found a better place! Mahalo nui loa e Andre! We were truly "off the map", which is what I wanted. There was more than enough room for my ohana to be comforable. The value is beyond words! Only recommendation I have: darker curtains in the downstairs master bedroom. Other than that WE LOVED EVERYTHING!!!!

Comfortable and Accomodating
Andre was extremely accomodating. We had a booked at a hotel in Hilo, only to find out that is was not such a nice place to stay. I contacted Andre at 7pm and on the same night, we were arrived to this rental. We booked the two studios as the 3 bedroom was taken. None the less, we spent two nights here. The beds were comfortable. Lynn was very informative about things to do. They have information for local services like a personal chef, massuse, or tour guide available at the rental. We had a great time while we were there, and were much more comfortable staying here than the place we had originally booked in Hilo. The prices are unheard of. Our stay was very reasonably priced. A word about Hawaii... there are bugs and they are to be expected. If the lights are on, they will come. Lynn was nice enough to warn us about this. We quickly understood what she was talking about. If you are afraid of bugs, this is not the place for you. We were not expecting the bugs so it was a bit of a surprise for us, but we dealt with it by keeping the doors shut and the screened windows open. The rental itself, is clean and modern and comfortable. The beds were comfortable. We would stay here again. We had a great time. Thanks Andre & Lynn.

Aloha, glad that you loved the place and you are certainly welcome back anytime. We always ask tennants to avoid leaving the outside lights on at night because 'everyone knows' that lights attract insects' any where that you go in Hawaii . Some people forget or disregard what they are told and find a few cane beatles outside on the porch lights. This is normally not much of a problem to most people as we keep our land cleared around the house. During the day, insects are not an issue at all. Please don't let a few harmless cane beatles scare you away from Hawaii because that would be a shame. LOL Mahalo and aloha.
Sehr ruhige Lage, allerdings weiter weg vom Meer als vom Inserst her erwartet

Yes, we are 10 blocks from the ocean and walking distance from Kehena Beach. We have a distant ocean view from the house which is a quiet Hawaiian Community in beautiful Puna. We are glad that our guests enjoyed the house as they told us directly.
My family of 4 had a wonderful stay for two nights at this property. The home was spacious and well-stocked, and the location was perfect for exploring the Kalapana/Pahoa/Pohoiki area. Check in was a breeze, and communication from the owners was extremely helpful. We would definitely stay here again!
We enjoyed this house. It is really unusual in a good way. The whole area is very earthy and unique. This house fit the 5 of us easily and has what you need. We drank the water through a Britta, but they suggest you don’t. Keep that in mind if you are worried about it.
The thermal pools are a variety of hot temperatures. They would be more fun when it is cool out. We happened to go when it was hot. The views from MacKenzie State Park are amazing, and the beach nearby has a little bit of a steep hike down (we didn’t have trouble) and clothing optional…keep that in mind.
Overall, the space is great. The covered porch is wonderful in the morning. The hosts were helpful as well.
The house was very nice! Communication with Andre and Susan was returned immediately. Loved listening to the animals through the night. Thank you for sharing your home with us!!
This great property was home base for our recent week in Hawaii. The house itself is lovely and open, with lots of room for our family of 4. We loved having breakfast on the lanai, and popping down the street (10mins) to sit in the ocean thermal pools at Isaac Hale in the mornings.
It is a ways outside of Hilo, so if you’re looking for something close to it all, this is not it - but we found it just as easy to travel into Hilo, the volcano national park, and even Kona on various day trips. Then to come home to our space and have a home-cooked meal. Would highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for peace and relaxation during your Hawaiian stay.
We strive to improve our place and have made many positive changes in the past few months. The house is located in a beautiful semi- remote area in Puna near the Leilani Estates eruption where some roads were destroyed by the lava flow. We are now looking forward to the county re-opening the road between Rte 132 and Rte 137 which may improve access to another large black sand beach this summer.
We had a great time at the big house. Plenty of space to spread out. Incredible lanai, walkable neighborhood, and beautiful scenery. FYI The house is shared with two other tenants, so we had to try to manage the kid noise, but otherwise we had an awesome stay. We will definitely be back!

For clarity. ..There is a private studio that we rent on the side of the building and it has a private entrance. Nobody shares your space in the house as it is private as well.
We are a family of five and stayed here for five nights in August. The pictures don't do the house justice. I suggest the owners post more photos of their beautiful home. We were very comfortable and revelled in the spaciousness.
The kitchen is upstairs, which is different. My only complaint is that there isn't a dishwasher, so we had to put the kids on dish duty.
There isn't air conditioning but plenty of fans. After you open the windows, there is a wonderful breeze and the rooms cool off. The only night it felt a little warm was when it was raining and the humidity was high. We were unable to open two windows for more air, but we survived just fine.
A number of people complain about the coqui frogs who call out to each other most of the night. It is true, they can be loud, (I brought ear plugs). I would much rather fall asleep to frogs and wake up to a rooster than to traffic and loud music any day.
We took advantage of the large porch for reading and just enjoying the quiet. If you happen to be up late at night, look to the sky, and you'll see the Milky Way and all the stars.
Mila the housekeeper was very helpful. The house was spotless when we arrived. It is located in a more remote area, about 20 minutes from Pahoa, but we didn't mind. We enjoyed exploring the area.
Home is spacious and very comfortable and was very clean. Beds were very comfortable. The only downside was no AC. The fans and ocean breeze help greatly though, but at times it can be very warm inside. Owner was great to work with.

nice place
big-spacious house. a tad far from east side island activities and Hilo. would have liked bbq cleaned and grill supplies. we took care of it. house was clean. lanai wonderful. However, one of the kids woke up one morning with insect bites all over his back. First morning, i had bites all over my feet. maybe this is coinicidence and unrelated to the house? not sure though. liked the activity list on the fridge. owner was nice and greeted us on arrival. big island is beautiful.

We are 100% sure that they didn’t get bit by insects inside the house. The island has little fire ants that live in trees and and plants. When kids and adults are walking around around outside, sometimes the ants can fall off a tree on to your clothes and eventually end up on your skin. The bite is very itchy. Everyone on the island is quite aware of these little ants that are all over the island. We also treat the grounds around the house regularly. We are always on the look out for insects in the house.
Regarding the BBQ. They probably used the rock BBQ outside and not the nice gas grill in the garage - which is clean and has utensils ( prongs, brush scraper, spatula) on it. This guest probably didn’t know about the nice gas grill in the garage because they didn’t ask.

Roomy, comfortable home near Kalapana.
Great location to use as home base to explore the volcano area and a few isolated, uncrowded beaches along the Kalapana/ Pahoa coastal area. The home was clean and tidy! We loved sitting out on the lanai in the morning to have our Hawaiian breakfast with fresh pineapple and Portugese sausage!

Aloha, we fell in love with Hawaii while on vacation and decided that we wanted to live here. Can't think of a better place on earth to live that 'right here' in the Puna District. Come see it, you may never want to leave.
Why they chose this property
We love Kalapana-Seaview Estates which is a very nice, safe, family oriented community situated next to Kehena Beach in a very beautiful, remote coastal area in the Puna District of Hawaii - The Big Island. Kalapana is 'the Hawaii' that everyone dreams of and quite different than the city of Kona. We live in the Kalapana area ourselves and absolutely feel that it is the nicest part of the entire island... you will too. You may not want to didn't.
What makes this property unique
The property is within walking distance to the coast and has an ocean view. If you are looking for a great place to relax, hike around, and enjoy a remote, quiet, tranquil and peaceful part of Hawaii - this is it. If you enjoy farmers mkts, we have one just 1/2 block away.
We also are connected w/ a lava tour guide who provides Lava Boat Tours, hiking tours to the lava flow, sport fishing trips and more at the best price.. Just ask us for more information.
