About this property

Heart of the Marina District, Walking distance to EVERYTHING , Water+Marina View

The Longshoreman at 260 Marina Cove is one of two luxury condos located in the heart of the marina district in downtown Port St. Joe, Florida.  Literally, once you arrive and park, whether by car or boat, you’ll never have to get into your vehicle or vessel again.  Restaurants and shopping are all nearby and just a short walk away. The new Port St. Joe Marina (Summer ’22) is adjacent and will feature a large ships store.  Nightlife at local pubs (The Haughty Heron, Tap Root, and others) is also only a few steps away… or, you can just sit on your private balcony and often listen to nearby live music without leaving the cozy confines of your home away from home; and too, less than 100 steps away is one of our area’s best kept secrets, Lighthouse Beach, in the shadows of the famous Cape San Blas Lighthouse and consists of beautiful white sand and what we locals call “kid-safe waters.”
These two rental properties are truly a unique opportunity for a couple to have their vacation wishes fulfilled.  Almost everyone who has visited, expresses the same sentiment, “I could live here, and be happy!”  Rented together, these units could be perfect for a “two-couples” extended stay, or small family get-togethers.  Both units are very spacious, with large living areas, full kitchens, a king size bed in each, fold-out sofas, balconies and the Stevedore even features a third story “crows’ nest,” perfect for watching everything, from boats coming and going, to a bird’s eye view of fireworks during holidays.  Personally, I might just stretch out on the outdoor furniture and listen to all the wonderful area sounds.  But, that’s just me!  EVERYTHING you might need to complete your stay is already here.  We’ve thought to include a blender, crockpot, coffee maker (with coffee, cream, and sugar), cork screws, and even dinnerware for eight in each unit… just in case you want to entertain.
We’re often asked about the significance of the names - the Stevedore and the Longshoreman.  I suppose the best way to answer that question is to describe what a Stevedore is and what a Longshoreman does:
Stevedore refers to a man or a company who manage the loading and unloading of ships.  To be a Stevedore or a Longshoreman requires knowledge of the operation of the proper equipment and techniques involved with properly unloading and stowing cargo.  Longshoreman refers exclusively to the dockworkers that specifically carry out the tasks involved in this line of work.  And, if you know anything about the history of this area, you might be aware that Port St. Joe boasts not only a natural deep water port, but is also the Constitution City of the State of Florida, and ferried into port many prominent people of the past, dating back to 1838.  In more recent times, this site was literally at the center of an industrial port, with the nearby paper mill shipping its products and wares all around the world.  Yes, Stevedores and Longshoremen were all about this spot until the turn of the millennium.
Today, our town has made the transition from its industrial - commerce past and is quickly becoming one of the most desirable tourist destinations along the Gulf Coast.  The owners have strived to honor the past by subtly accessorizing throughout with local historical touches that will accentuate your stay that includes all the comforts of the modern world.  So, whether you’re seeking a long quaint weekend getaway or dry land while your vessel is moored nearby, then the Stevedore or the Longshoreman are definitely where and what you’re seeking!  We know you’ll enjoy your stay.

Lo

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, condo was so clean and furnishings were well appointed and comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked and loved that owners splurged on nice, thick bath towels and linens. Loved the upstairs deck, the breeze is amazing up there! And conveniently located in middle of town, we walked to marina and to restaurants. We will definitely be back!
