About this property

🎣 The Crappie House — Lakefront Getaway on Lake Palo Pinto by Reel Life Rentals

Welcome to The Crappie House! Locally loved for its awesome crappie fishing, this cozy lakefront home sits right on the water at the quiet north end of beautiful Lake Palo Pinto.

You’ll be just steps from the lake — or walk right onto your private dock and boathouse, where you can cast a line, relax with a drink, or launch one of the two kayaks provided. This spot is known for some of the best deep-water crappie fishing on the lake, tucked into a peaceful, protected no-wake cove that’s perfect for paddling or floating the day away.

⚠️ Heads up: Please don’t dive off the dock — there could be stumps underwater!

🏡 The Space
• 2 Private Bedrooms
• Downstairs: Queen bedroom + full bath
• Upstairs: Queen bedroom + full bath
• Upstairs alcove: Twin bed (walk-through to second bedroom)

Plenty of room to spread out inside, and outside you’ve got a half-acre lot with tons of parking space. There’s also a security camera at the entrance for peace of mind.

And the sunsets? Absolutely gorgeous. Kick back with a cold drink on the dock and take in those classic lake views — it’s the perfect way to end the day.

🌿 A Note About the House

Because some of the wood used in the foundation and trim was treated with creosote, there’s a slight creosote smell inside. It’s not strong, but out of caution, we don’t recommend the home for guests with asthma or respiratory sensitivities.

To keep the air fresh and clean, we’ve added:
• HEPA-rated filters on the A/C
• A NuWave Smart Air Purifier with a top-of-the-line 5-filter system that removes pet dander, odors, fumes, mold, bacteria, and viruses.

You can breathe easy knowing we’ve got great air quality covered.

📍 Location

Lake Palo Pinto is a hidden gem — 2,399 acres of quiet water fun just 15 miles from Mineral Wells and about 79 miles from Fort Worth.

Great place to stay and enjoy the lake.

Only draw back is if you bring a boat there is no place to get it to house because of oak trees. Have to park it at top in front of property.

Great vacation again

This was our 2nd stay at this great lakehouse. We had so much fun the kids were able to jump in the water and swim off the dock with no boats flying by. It was Memorial day weekend and the lake was so peaceful!! We will definitely book another stay here. We also caught some nice fish and had a fish fry our final nigjt! We love this property!

Well needed family time

We have stayed at a lot of different lakes and lake properties. My family and I have finally found a property that we will be coming to for years to come. The property was clean and the dock was a very nice place to fish. Catching fish is not the most important thing when the priority is spending time with family. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to enjoy ourselves!!!!!!

Lake Palo Pinto

Pretty location on the lake. Lake level was several feet low. Lake was nice, scenic. Crappie fishing from the dock was not good. Very quiet. Enjoyable. Home was very clean.

Fun weekend on the water

Nice waterfront property about 1 hr and 45 minutes from Dallas, with a great pier and boat house. Comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen, really great gas grill (our steaks turned out perfect!) Very quiet and low key, which is just what we wanted. Fish weren't biting for us so we took a pretty drive around the lake: it takes about an hour. We're in a drought, so currently the lake is about 5 feet lower than normal. A couple things to note: the spiral staircase might be a bit difficult for elders. Main bedroom and en suite bath downstairs are easily accessible (and beautiful) so that's where my parents slept. Upstairs is a shotgun layout, so you have to go through the twin bed alcove to get to the second bedroom, just fyi. Futon is on landing at top of the stairs but we never used it. There are louvered doors between the futon area and the twin area to create a little privacy. Bathroom upstairs is small but fine. We didn't shower, so can't comment on water pressure :) All in all a very nice weekend. Thanks Pat!

They caught fish!

Very clean , cute house with a pretty view looking at lake or back at shoreline. Several “fishermen” in our group and they caught quite few fish and at least a dozen keepers! Mostly catfish and one big stripper.

Very clean and spacious!

This rental is spacious and it was very clean. Sometimes the cabin on the lake can be a little "rustic". This place was not dusty or spider-y or anything. The master shower is excellent with tons of hot water and wonderful pressure. A couple of things we didn't care for. There was a really strong musty smell, the whole time, to the point out clothes and bags smelled like it when we got home. But there had been a big rain and it likely caused some mildew-y smells to "awaken." It's nature. I understand. We ran the air purifiers but it didn't help much. And the yard was sort of a mess of sticks, weeds, uneven terrain, and tall grass. I would probably think it needs to be mowed, but also a huge rain came through before we arrived and maybe that's the reason for the debris. All in all, I liked the house and our kids loved fishing off the pier. They even saw a beaver swim up one evening!

Rustic house on Lake Palo Pinto

This is a nice place to stay with a great spot for fishing. We didn’t catch any but didn’t try very hard. The next dock over were catching several nice crappies. The house is roomy with a large nice deck. Bring an umbrella as the sun is intense in the afternoon. The kitchen was well stocked with plates, utensils and a couple of basics like salt and pepper and cooking spray. I think they must have left the refrigerator off between rentals as it took quite a while to get very cold. Once it cooled down after a few hours it worked fantastic. Ice maker does not work. I looked and there is no water line hooked to it due to not being very close to a water line. We just broke up some bagged ice and dumped it in the ice maker drawer. Beds were comfortable as were living room couch and love seat. Smaller TV but it had dish network. AT&T cell service was very weak/non-existent but we were able to go through the Wi-Fi for text messages. One window unit in the upstairs bedroom the worked well. We didn’t use the small single bed upstairs but there was little cool air in that area and although there was a ceiling fan over it, I think it would be a hot nights sleep in the hot weather months. Everyone liked the water pressure and shower heads in both showers. Covered parking. There is a slight creosote smell in the house but everyone said it reminded the of Six Flags. Might be a problem with someone sensitive to it.

Acrobatic fishing

The house was set up nice. However, you need a step ladder to use the microwave and get into the ten-story bed. Outside was covered in cigarette butts and old rusty furniture. The other seating areas were very dirty. Very unsafe to go down to the boathouse. The walkway sat up at a 90 degree angle. Each time I let the dog out we spent thirty minutes pulling burrs out. The house was set up nice.

Beautiful Lake View

My husband and I visited this property to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. We loved the peace and quiet. The house was very comfortable and the deck and boat dock were easily accessible. We arrived on Saturday and left Monday but on our drive home I told my husband I felt very relaxed (usually takes me 5/6 days to unwind).

Very relaxing

We overall really loved our stay! The only thing was that we couldn’t tell from the pictures you had to walk through one little bedroom to get to another so that made it a little awkward but it worked out just fine! We loved fishing and the hanging out on the patio.
