About this property

Mountain view, Lakefront on Fontana Lake

Unique, modern lakefront home featured on HGTV’s Extreme Homes – just minutes to downtown Bryson City, Tsali Recreation Area and the Nantahala River. Enjoy lake and mountain views from every room + a private dock*. This very unique home has floor-to-ceiling living room windows, balconies, a wood burning stove, private cove with waterfall. Comfortably furnished. Max 1 pet allowed**.

Our home is very private with limited other homes or docks in view. The home was built to minimally disturb the hillside and carefully placed to sit atop a rock outcropping while maintaining stunning views of the lake and mountains. Some of our favorite things include watching the sunset over the lake from the porch, fireflies dancing in the trees, swimming in our private cove, sipping coffee on the porch and s'mores at the fire pit. The home includes 2 sit-on top-kayaks and is just a short distance to a boat launch and motorboat rentals if you don't bring your own boat.

*The TVA manages the lake levels and tries to maintain the lake at a full capacity from Memorial Day until Labor Day with the weeks prior to and after have more fluctuating water levels. The lowest levels are maintained September through April. THERE IS NO LAKE ACCESS FROM SEPTEMBER THROUGH APRIL.

**PET RULES: Dogs must be on-leash at ALL times outside. Pets are not allowed on any furniture inside the home. Pets may never be left unattended inside the home unless they are crated. Dogs may never be left alone on the balconies. Pet waste must be bagged and disposed of in the outside trashcan. Your dog should be friendly and house trained. Dogs that utilize pee pads are NOT allowed. Guests will be charged for any damage caused by your dog. Limit of one dog. An additional dog may be considered on a case by case basis.

The rental is located on a private gravel road, just off a main highway. Because of our location in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the road does have a steep slope but is easily navigable with a 2-wheel drive vehicle for most of the year. Only during the winter months when snow/ice is forecasted, all-wheel or 4-wheel drive is recommended.

Due to the lack of space to turn an attached trailer around; boat trailers should be parked at the Almond Boat Dock. Large RVs, pull-behind campers and trailers of any sort are not allowed.

Because the rental was built into the steep slope and was constructed to be minimally invasive to the mountain site, the private dock is accessed via a long series of stairs (~200 steps) leading down to the lake.

While the entrance to the home does not require stair access, the access to the 2nd floor and 2 of the 3 bedrooms is via a spiral staircase.

As mentioned throughout: the TVA manages the levels of Lake Fontana and attempts to maintain the lake at full capacity from Memorial Day until Labor Day, with the weeks prior to and after having fluctuating water levels. The lowest levels are maintained late September through April. (rainfall dependent) WE DO NOT GUARANTEE LAKE ACCESS FROM SEPTEMBER THROUGH FIRST OF MAY.

A firepit is available by the lake area, don't forget to purchase firewood (firewood is not provided).

2 sit-on-top kayaks are provided for guest use.

We suggest reserving pontoon boat rentals early from Almond Boat & RV Park; they will sell out on peak days. There is parking available at the marina, so you can easily load guests who do not want to use the stairs to the dock at the home or to load heavier items at the marina and onto the boat. Overnight boat trailer parking is $5/day.

Great vacation for summer!
It's was a really nice house. I would say to tell people about the annual drain down of the lake, I was expecting a lake house and there was no lake. Internet is terrible and the tv buffers nonstop. Not a big selection of cooking utensils but every thing was modern and nice.

Nice place
We enjoyed our stay. Nice and clean. Good location. We did have a few issues: Coffeemaker broken light/fan in downstairs master bedroom not working lots of red wasps upstairs - stung my child twice - once right beside his eye These all need to be addressed.

Secluded property…. 10 mins from Bryson City
Family stayed here for a Polar Express trip out of Bryson city. 10 mins from Bryson city, pictures of property accurate, responsive host, and no issues. Please be aware gravel downhill road to get to property… no issue for me but you will likely want to be an SUV or truck.

Peaceful weekend
Little pricey for what you get as far as the house is concerned but the experience of having no light pollution, no neighbors, the beauty of nature all around makes up for it. Opening the windows in the cool evening made it feel like we were living in a tree house. The lightening bugs put on one heck of a show. Pure Magic! The drive to the house is a single lane, steep, curvy gravel road and you can not bring a any type of trailers. We had to leave our boat trailer offsite which we were not fans of. There are over 150 steps from the house to the dock. We managed okay but it was a workout.

What makes this property unique

The home is situated in a private cove on Fontana Lake with a waterfall and private dock. Peak time for lake activities is Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Tennessee Valley Authority controls the water levels of Lake Fontana and reduces the level for the winter (September-April), which leaves our dock and cove with very low or no water. It's still lovely to sit on the deck and look at the lake, but swimming/boating from the dock is not possible during this time of year.

The home is located on a private gravel road, just off a main highway. Because of our location in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the road does have a pitch but is easily navigable with a 2-wheel drive vehicle for most of the year. Only during the winter months when there is a chance of snow, all-wheel or 4-wheel drive is recommended.

Due to the inability to turn around an attached trailer; boat trailers need to be parked at the Almond Boat Dock. No large RV’s or pull behind campers are allowed.

Because the home is literally built into the rocks and was constructed to be minimally invasive to the mountain site, the private dock is accessed via a long series of stairs leading down to the lake.
