About this property

Wheelchair Access-Breathtaking Views of Mountains & Lake-New Reno-Fragrance Free

"Eagle’s Nest" is a 2 Bedroom/2 Full Bathroom, Wheelchair Accessible, chemical Fragrance Free and Medical Medium friendly! Newly Remodeled with brand new solid hickory hardwood flooring, soft close solid oak kitchen cabinets, white quartz kitchen counters, new bathroom tile and shower floor in master, built in wardrobes, fresh No VOC paint throughout, a new driftwood wreath and 2 new paintings.

This is a 1,562 (including decks) sq ft cabin for rent on 12 acres that overlooks Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This land is bordered by 600 acres of the Nantahala National Forest. Lake access and pontoon rentals are available just a few short minutes from the cabin.

Eagle’s Nest was designed and built by local artists and craftsmen with great attention to every detail. This is brand new construction with thoughtful furnishings that include one-of-a-kind artwork, decor and handmade furniture crafted by the owners. Be at peace knowing these homes are completely free of any toxic fragrances or chemical cleaners. There are no air fresheners, plug ins, scented candles, incense, commercial laundry soaps or fabric softeners. We wash all of the linens, shower curtains, bath mats etc. in house to insure they are cleaned without any toxic commercial soaps, stain removers, or bleach. We use non toxic cleaning supplies like Unscented Seventh Generation, BonAmi, BioKleen, peroxide, vinegar, and baking soda. This entire 12 acre property has NEVER been sprayed with pesticide. We are aware of how these toxic commercial fragrances have a burning effect on the nerves, can perpetuate a weakened immune system, deplete the nervous system, and cause several other chronic health symptoms. Rejoice in knowing that inside our homes and outside in the surrounding hundreds of acres of National Forest, clean air and oxygen are absorbed with every breath.

Shannon and Michelle purchased 12 acres of raw undeveloped land in 2013 surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest. Little did they know (for the thick foliage) that they had a Million Dollar View of a Horseshoe Bend on Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! It took viewing Google Maps to see what a gem they had found. They moved to Bryson City after selling their home and printing business in Fletcher NC (close to Asheville). Shannon grew up in Bryson City, and Michelle fell in love with this "Gateway to the Smokies" town when they built a house boat at Almond Boat Park in 2013, that floats on Fontana Lake. They finished building Eagle's Nest in Oct 2015 and now share it with guests from all over the world!
❤️Exciting News – A New Chapter for Our Vacation Homes!
Dear Friends and Guests,
We wanted to share some exciting news with you. After many wonderful years of hosting guests at our vacation homes, we’ll be passing the torch to new owners, Clarissa and Mike, who will continue welcoming visitors with the same care and hospitality that have made this place so special.
We’re thrilled to know it will continue to be cared for by people who are equally committed to providing a warm, relaxing, and memorable mountain getaway. The new owners share our love for the home and the surrounding area, and they’re committed to maintaining the same comfort, charm, cleanliness, and fragrance free experience you’ve come to expect.
If you already have a confirmed reservation, rest assured that everything will remain the same — everything will continue smoothly. The new owners will be in touch with any updates or introductions soon.
We’re deeply grateful for every guest who has stayed, shared stories, and helped us create such wonderful memories here. It’s been our joy to host you, and we’re thrilled to know this special place will continue to bring joy to future guests for years to come.
With Heartfelt Gratitude,

Michelle and Shannon

Why they chose this property

There's a Peace here that we've never felt before. This place is awe - inspiring. It almost forces you to stop in your tracks every time you look outside. We built Eagle's Nest to give our guests the feeling they were floating on water...and sometimes in clouds. From the Living Room and both Bedrooms there are French Doors that open out onto a 728 sq ft (partially covered) deck that extends out over top of Fontana Lake. From the theatrical morning sunrise to the day's last light, and on a clear night you can see the Milky Way, the show this magical place performs is ever changing and always jaw dropping.

What makes this property unique

We designed and built 'Eagle's Nest' to accommodate anyone. This cabin is wheelchair accessible with a sidewalk and wheelchair ramp. The large master bedroom and master bathroom include enough space to turn a wheelchair within a 5 foot radius. Without much extra time and materials, we've tried to create a thoughtful home, keeping everyone in mind.
We call this cabin Eagle's Nest because Bald Eagles are always near by the cabin. They can be seen flying close to the cabin's deck, playing in the air at eye level, and even diving into the lake after a fish. This year (2025) we witnessed the eagles building a nest on the Hickory Flats Peninsula. This is the closest part of the park projecting out into the lake. Now you can see them year round coming and going from this peninsula! This is an unforgettable experience.
