Communication nightmare
I have never given fewer than 4 stars to any of the multiple places I have rented, and nearly all have been 5 stars. However, our experience at this rental was one of frustration from the start. We chose this place over several others because of its "park-like backyard" fully enclosed by a fence to allow the dog freedom to run. For the first 2 days of our 3-day stay most of the backyard was excavated and part of the fence removed for installing a new septic tank. The excavation and presence of construction equipment created a safety hazard and made the yard unusable. None of this was conveyed to us ahead of time, and it took over 24 hours of persistent calling before we were able to talk to a member of VACASA's "local team" who told us they were not aware of the problem. While the rest of the place had pros (nice kitchen and layout, comfortable beds) and cons (stained, worn furniture with dog hair, moldy shower curtain, and minimal supplies), our biggest problem was inability to use the backyard and the lack of communication. I feel someone should have contacted us prior to arriving to make us aware of the issues, or at least been in contact with us from the beginning of our stay. The local rep agreed that we should be compensated and has told us that VACASA will give us a 25% refund, but that has yet to happen. Emergencies happen, but we should have been kept informed without so much effort on our part. Needless to say, this greatly impacted the enjoyment of our vacation.
