About this property

Gorgeous Riverfront Retreat: swimming, canoeing, riding, biking

Get away from it all in this relaxing riverfront retreat.
Enjoy morning coffee on the huge deck high up in the trees, then walk down the hill for a dip in the Potomac. Hiking trails, riding stables (the Whitings Neck Equestrian Center) and the C&O canal tow path are nearby for four seasons of fun.

This is a special section of the Potomac called the Big Slackwater, a stretch of extra-deep river that's great for swimming, canoeing and kayaking. And there are hidden caves in the area -- a local guide can show you the secrets.

This four bedroom, four bath home features a huge deck, great for a cookout dinner after a day on the river. There's a fully-outfitted kitchen, formal dining room and casual eating area. A cozy living room features a huge, double-sided fireplace to warm up in winter after a hike in the snow or cross country skiing. The big yard is great for croquet, badminton or other lawn games.

Just minutes from adorable historic Shepherdtown, with lovely shops and restaurants. Harpers Ferry and Antietam battlefield are close by for history buffs and adventure lovers. You can tour the historic town, hike the trails of the national park or go whitewater tubing and rafting on the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers.

The basement of the home is a separate apartment with a separate entrance occupied by a couple, who are quiet and keep to themselves.

This property is available for 30-day minimum rental. Please contact owner to schedule dates.

Quiet location with access to many outdoor activities!
This property was located along the Potomac River in a secluded neighborhood offering a peaceful and tranquil setting. We were able to go kayaking and swimming in the river; as well as biking on the C&O Canal Trail. We completed day trips to Berkeley Springs, Martinsburg, and Shepherdstown (make sure to check out Lilah Restaurant for some great food!). Nearly every morning and evening we were greeted by several deer wandering through the property; the bird watchers in our group were busy as well. We were fortunate enough to see two groups of equestrian riders travel along the property down to the river. The only real interruptions to the tranquility were the occasional jet ski or boat traveling on the river. Everyone in our multi-generational group had an awesome experience during our stay!

Beautiful, peaceful, sanctuary to relax at.
Beautiful, peaceful, sanctuary to relax at. My wife and I, with another couple, spent a couple days at this lovely, large home overlooking the Potomac River. It’s beautifully decorated and landscaped, with all the amenities. The rental is conveniently about 15 minutes away to Shepherdstown. Where we really enjoyed the restaurants Alma Bea and Lilah. The house sits on extensive property surrounded by woods. So it’s very private and peaceful. We will certainly come back again.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with our place in Whitings Neck because it's nestled between the river and a stable. Water and horses, our favorite things. And it's a quick trip from DC so we can zip out here easily, spend the weekend, work from the woods and still get back for meetings or school.
