About this property
Beach House with Lush Gardens and Private Pool
Our cozy home is located in the Ricos y Famosos neighborhood of Jaco. Close to the town center, you'll enjoy easy access to the beach where you'll play in the sand, surf some of the best waves in the world, experience the best natural show nightly—a Pacific coast sunset, lazy strolls along the Avenue with visits to shops and options for tomorrow's adventure tours. What's more, Jaco offers an abundance of choices to fantastic restaurants that appeal to a variety of tastes—both savory and sweet.
The space
Our secured gated home invites ultimate relaxation featuring a private pool, lush tranquil gardens that welcome humming birds, motmots, toucans, a variety of iguanas, stunning floral displays. If you're like us, you'll love morning coffee on the patio watching the macaws fly overhead, floating in the pool, and sharing meals outside on one of three patio areas. You'll also be enchanted by the backyard and pool views while you're just chilling in the living room.
The house features 3 restful and individually air conditioned bedrooms, two of which have private access to the backyard garden, 2 full baths, a well-appointed kitchen with granite countertops, a gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, which makes your choice to eat at home or go out easy. We have multiple choices to dine, whether you want a more formal setting in the dining room or you prefer to eat outside. Our home is all on one level making it comfortable for those with physical challenges. We also offer secured off-street parking.
Our home is WiFi connected with the best available locally. Please note, it is an amazing WiFi, but it does drop from time to time.
We have a state-of-the-art security system in the home and cameras for your protection.
Please note, if you have allergies to cats, this home has been adopted by a very sweet cat. Please proceed at your own risk.
Guest access
During your stay, you will have access to the entire house. Please note the house is available only to guests who are registered at the time your reservation was made. To protect our home, we have a limit of 4 guests. If you violate this rule or bring visitors to the house who provide paid services, you will be asked to leave with no refund.
Rebeca will orient you to the house when you arrive. We know you will love her as much as we do!
NEARBY TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
The Costa Rican Tourist Institute defines Jacó as a “must-see” for tourists. If you are visiting, here is a list of five places you'll want to add to your list of things to do.
1. CARARA NATIONAL PARK - Home to scarlet macaws and other tropical species, this National Park offers stunning bird and wildlife viewing. The trail is accessible for all family members, including those with disabilities.
2. HERMOSA BEACH - Known as one of the most consistent surf breaks in Costa Rica, Playa Hermosa offers world-class surfing for more experienced surfers. Even if you aren’t a surfer, there are very cool beachfront cafes and restaurants where you can watch the waves, surfers and sunset!
3.) BIJAGUAL WATERFALL - Experience this cascading 590-foot waterfall by taking a horseback tour! You'll love the scenic hike up the mountains and you'll be amazed by the stunning panoramic views of the Pacific coast.
4. PUNTARENAS - A local cultural classic, the boardwalk area of this port village has some of the freshest seafood in the region. Here you can also take the ferry for a day trip to some of the pristine islands in the Gulf of Nicoya.
5. JACO/HERRADURA SPORTFISHING - The marina in Jacó as well as the Los Sueños Resort marina are well known for their charter fishing boat trips. If you're a fishing aficionado, don’t miss this opportunity (check it out early in your visit as booking can get full quickly).
Manuel Antonio is just an hour south of Jaco.
Nauyaca Waterfalls is about 90 minutes south of Jaco. (This is my personal favorite!)
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
If you've not rented a car, we recommend you rent bikes at Bicicolo, which is located on Calle Lapa Verde, just before you enter our neighborhood. Ask for Arturo. We suggest you get bike locks and use them when you leave bikes unattended in town or at the house.
In addition to all the awesome activities available in town, you'll also have easy access to several grocery stores like Mas x Menos or Pali, (we recommend specialty shops Jaco Fine Meats and Pachi's Pan for your meat and bakery). ATMs at banks are easily accessible in town, however you can use credit cards in nearly all shops, restaurants and tour operators. For health and food safety, we do not provide condiments of any kind.
Every Thursday and Friday on the south end of town, we encourage you to visit the Farmer's Market. Tip: Go early Thursday evening. You'll get the best produce and you'll go at one of the cooler times of the day. It's a fantastic experience you won't want to miss if you're in town during that time. Credit cards are welcome.
If you're looking for a gym or yoga while you're in town, there are several which offer drop in rates. We recommend Gimnasio Platinum or Gimnasio Body Beach. For yoga, Aurora Yoga and Wellness in Jaco Walk is our favorite for feeling zen.
If you are a Friend of Bill's there is a meeting room just above Fruity Monkey Poop. The schedule is posted on the door. The local recovery program is known as one of the best in the region.
If you need medical attention, there are several pharmacies in town as well as clinics. We keep a First Aid kit in the house in the drawer in the large bathroom.
If you want to rent a car for a quick day trip to one of the areas national parks, waterfalls or great hiking locations, booking during high season can be challenging as they fill fast. Also, a booked car does not always guarantee you will actually get a car (the car rental companies are dependent on guests bringing cars back when they say they will). There are several agencies in town from which you can select.
If you need a negative Covid test to fly home, you can get tested in Jaco or at the airport. Please check your arriving country's requirements to allow time to reduce potential delays at the airport.
HOUSE RULES
We offer an elegant family-focused home and want to continue to offer that to future guests (and hopefully you'll be a return guest!) We simply ask that you be respectful of our home and the house rules.
If something breaks, please let me or Rebeca know so one of us can let you know where to find a replacement or the cost to replace.
The price listed is for 4 guests. We ask that no more than 4 guests stay in the home at one time. ALL guests must be registered at the time of your reservation. ONLY guests registered at the time your reservation is made may stay in the home. Guests who violate this policy will be asked to leave immediately without refund. Guests who bring paid services to the home are in violation of our house rules as well as VRBO's rules and will be removed from the home immediately with no refund.
We respect your right to smoke, but respectfully request absolutely no smoking of any type at our house.
We are on septic. PLEASE, absolutely NO condoms, sanitary napkins, no tampons, no baby diapers or wipes, no garbage, no chemicals. These items can cause significant damage to the septic system and make your stay very unpleasant. Violation of this house rule may result in an additional cost to you for septic cleaning.
For your safety and security, we have a security system and cameras set up at the front and back entrances of the home to safeguard against unwanted visitors. Please note the cameras are recording and are monitored during your stay.

About the host
Hosted by Michelle Zelsman
I am Michelle. I live outside of Washington, DC and have a passion for travel that started in the early 80s when I was an exchange student to Barcelona. Since then, I have visited more than 50 countries around the world, where I have mostly stayed in hosted homes. Having been an exchange student, I feel like it's the best way to really experience a community—especially if you have limited time in country.
Dave and I have stayed in this home year after year for nearly 10 years as guests. We fell in love with this home the first time we walked in and it has been my dream to own it since. So, if you've been to this house before, we are beyond delighted to offer you the same amazing experience you've come to expect over the years.
One of the reasons we love this home so much is it is the place where we can completely be free to disconnect from everything. When we started doing that, to our surprise we discovered how easily we were able reconnect with one another.
We are true believers in living happy. With that spirit, we welcome you back or for the first time to our home in Costa Rica where living the Pura Vida life is easy and an opportunity for you to experience first hand why this country tops the annual happiness survey year after year.

Why they chose this property
It's quiet, serene, private, comfortable. It's close to town so access to the beach, awesome restaurants, coffee shops and things to do are easy. But because it's in a local neighborhood, it's far enough away from the crowd that you can really relax and enjoy the pura vida lifestyle.
What makes this property unique
Privacy. Lush gardens. Stylish home. Refreshing pool. Close to the beach, restaurants, nightlight, stores, but far enough to relax peacefully. Easy to get to from San Jose and Liberia. (San Jose is closer.)
