Adventure awaits! Western NC and North GA abound with opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Set your sights on long-range views with visits to Bell Mountain in Hiawassee (20-minute drive) and Brasstown Bald (highest point in GA, 35-minute drive). Spend the day on Lake Chatuge with a boat or personal watercraft rental from a local marina or launch your own from nearby public access. Want to immerse yourself in nature in the Nantahala National Forest? Bring your mountain bikes and ride the first-class trails at Jackrabbit Mountain (also great for hiking and dog-friendly) less than 5 minutes from the property. Fires Creek Recreation Area (25-minute drive) is another Western NC local favorite for hiking with picturesque views, swimming, and trout fishing. On the GA side, take a 30-minute drive to a waterfall hike via the High Shoals Falls Trail or make the 45-minute drive to Alpine Helen, GA for a taste of Bavaria in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hungry and thirsty after a day of exploration? Visit the outstanding local restaurants, wineries, and breweries in and around downtown Hayesville and Hiawassee for not-to-be-missed tastes of local flavor.

We love the #lakelife around here as well as the majestic mountains. So much to do and see right in town. We have a handy Welcome Book in the house full of Places to Eat, Things to Do, Shopping, Hiking and Waterfall Trails. Wineries abound; they’re everywhere! Or head over to Helen for tubing or zip lining.

There are several excellent boat rental places in the area! We use Lake Chatuge Marine, Young Harris Water Sports, Boundary Waters... The fellas will help you out! All kinds of water toys too like jet skis, standup paddle boards and kayaks.

Hike or drive to the apex of Bell Mountain, which overlooks Lake Chatuge below and provides picturesque mountain views. Shooting Creek Overlook is breathtaking. Visit Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia. Jackrabbit Mountain and Chatuge Dam. Both Towns County (Hiawassee GA) and Clay County (Hayesville NC) have super parks and beaches. Trailheads of the Appalachian Trail, which spans from Georgia to Maine, are less than 10 miles from this home.

Not satisfied

It started off badly! We arrived at the property at 4:15 tired from a 5 hour trip. The place had not been cleaned from the last guests. I called the property manager but no one could be reached. I left a message. We drove to the office before 5:00 but it was already vacated. We decided we would go by cleaning products and clean ourselves. We are both 75 years old but we had no choice at this point. Just as I was starting to clean the place I got a call from the property manager telling me how sorry she was for the mishap and she would send the cleaning lady right over and that she would refund me the cleaning fee. The cleaning lady did arrive right away so we left while she cleaned. My cleaning fee was not credited either. It was a nice place. The bed in the master bedroom is very noisy. Every time you move it sqeaks. We would not stay again due to the bad experience.

Sandra, apologizes again for the cottage not being ready for you. Our housekeeper just read the check-in date wrong. This was confusing for her because there are 3 deferent listings for that particular property, you can rent the Cottage, the House, or both together. Because of this the software we use didn't give her the check-in date for just the Cottage that you rented.. We pride ourselves in never missing cleans, this is the first time this has happened in 3 years. We are in the mountains so if I am driving around the cell coverage is spotty, I can assure you that I wasn't ignoring the call. I did call you as soon as I received your message (which was about an hour after check-in time)and the housekeeper was there immediately. As far as the refund, I initiated the refund for cleaning immediately. If you didn't receive it you should have called me so that we could look at it together. I understand that it was disappointing to come into the house like that, but we were on top of it right away, Im just having a heard time understanding that your experience at the Cottage was a 1 star
