Horses and sheep graze on an estate that once belonged to Gustav Vasa. If you love nature, animals, water, and forests, and want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you’ll find the perfect place here. To get a complete picture of Skälsnäs, we’ve also provided detailed information at http://www.swedenferienamsee.com (dot) jimdo (dot) com.

From Skälsnäs, you can choose from a wide variety of experiences. Stay for a week or longer and go on excursions into the beautiful Småland countryside, go fishing to your heart’s content, rent a canoe for peaceful trips along the shores and through the many small lakes and rivers, and discover Sweden’s southernmost lock at Åby, with its beautiful natural lakes and canals. The latter is especially enjoyable on the steamboat Thor, with its original steam engine from 1887—what an experience!

Fishing waters
We own 300 ha of fishing waters around the Skälsnäs Peninsula, in the northern part of Lake Helgasee, which is the second-largest lake in Småland after “Åsnen,” with 55 km² of fishing waters and part of the “Mörrumsåns” river system. Helgasee is fed by springs and marshes in the highlands of southern Småland. The water is of high quality. The lake is quite deep, especially in the northern part, with a maximum depth of 26 metres. Coniferous and deciduous forests grow right up to the lake’s shores.

Fish
There are plenty of crustaceans in Lake Helga (crayfish, crayfish), which are also good for perch, which can grow large and strong. In addition, there are plenty of pike and walleye. Bream, tench, roach, eel, burbot (Trüsche), and blackfish (tonnelle) are also very common. In addition, there are brown trout in Lake Helga, though not as frequently.

fishing In winter, you can ice fish for perch and pike using special equipment. Catching tadpoles (trompettes) can also be a fun winter activity. When the ice melts, pike season begins, especially in the spring and fall. In summer, trolling for zander, pike, perch, and perhaps even brown trout is very rewarding. Perch, bream, roach, and rudd are best caught with a fishing rod. Crabs are caught in August and September; there are plenty of them around our peninsula.

Fishing Regulations
A fishing licence allows you to fish anywhere in the waters of Lake Helga. The minimum size for catching a pike, brown trout, or walleye is 40 cm. Zander can be fished from June through September. There are fishing bans in certain sensitive areas of Lake Helga.
