reservation cancelled after confirmation and payment

We reserved, paid and got confirmation of our stay. Within 2 hours got an email from owner that it was no longer available. We were flying in the next day for a family emergency and left with less than 24 hours to find another place. There was no apology, explanation or compensation from VRBO or owner. Inexcusable, shameful business practice.
