Stylish Digs across the 101 from Caruso's Rosewood Miramar Resort

Because we travel with our dog, we stay at VRBOs when we can. This unit was very spacious for the two of us and the pooch. The garden is large, fenced, and gated. The location is outstanding, less than a five minute drive to the shops and restaurants on Coast Village Rd and seven minutes to the Upper Village. We hope to stay again.

Misleading

The property did not live up to or match the online description. To start, I was not given the code for the door before arriving so that caused a slight hiccup. I also couldn't seem to find anywhere in the emails or app which cottage was actually mine. After peering behind some gates–which I can only describe as holding what looked like the perfect props for a B-movie horror film–I heard from the "owner". I say "owner" because I received texts from two different numbers and emails with check-out instructions, but nothing further. The profile photo even looked doctored. Once I had the code to enter, I was more than disappointed and unsettled. There were two locked doors from the inside, one leading from the dining area, one right next to the bed. Moths were flying around the bathroom where there was also dirt and debris on the windowsill and a strange smell. From the photos, you could not see that the finishing of the "cottage" was quite poor with shoddy paint work. The bathroom needed a total upgrade. I then realized, these aren't cottages, they are two older homes which have been chopped up to make "cottages". I really can't describe the uneasiness I felt when I returned after dinner that night. Everything in my gut said I had to leave. When someone arrived after 11:00 pm 'n started making tapping noises on the other side of the wall, I called a hotel, packed and left just before midnight. After telling the owner I didn't feel comfortable there, I never got a response.

Less than meets the eye

If you've ever seen a home listing on line which looks big, well remodeled, spacious and clean only to arrive and find out it was nothing like that, than you understand. This space was clearly done via a very cheap renovation and it shows. Doors still have water stains... mold? Drywall in bathroom looks like it was water damaged and it had been very recently patched but not sanded or painted. The TV did not work. A face towel was rather dirty. Ring stains all over countertop. Condoms were found in a kitchen drawer. I have provided photos to the manager of the property and he (Truman) has deiced to ignore the issues. Luckily I was only there for 1 night but I would have much rather stay nearly anywhere else in Montecito.
