Our family had an amazing week on Owasco Lake! The house met our needs and the backyard and lakefront was so beautiful and fun for our family! The beds were comfortable. The house is cute but could use some maintenance. I’m sure wear and tear from renters is rough but we’ve stayed at quite a few vrbo’s/other rental by owner companies and we were surprised by a few things that felt like basic property care, but overall it was a very nice stay. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet. The kids loved the shallow water in front of the house and the lily pad float. The sun porch was great for reading or playing games at the table out there.

Beautiful lake property that fit our needs well with two small kids. The bathrooms were small but ample. Beds were comfortable, while sheets and towels were ok. Kitchen was stocked well. No ironing board was found. There were a few things that housekeeping forgot to leave but the property manager was quick to have them delivered from Amazon that day and the next morning so it was no issue. The house has charming character and is not modern. There are a few things that need attention like some blinds that don’t work/missing and windows that have old notes on them saying please don’t open at this time. There is very little closet space if you need to hang a lot of clothes or a suit. The location was great in a quiet neighborhood along the lake, with easy drives to Auburn and Skaneateles. Overall, we enjoyed the stay. There were a few things that could have been a bit more refined but I would recommend this as a place to stay to most anyone.

Great Location to Watch the Lake Activity and Sunsets

This property is in a great location right on the lake with nice shade trees only steps from the water. The enclosed porch facing the water is ideal spot to sit and watch absolutely amazing sunsets. We had an enjoyable stay and hope to return.

We had a beautiful long weekend at this property and found it absolutely charming. It was very clean with updated amenities and a gorgeous view!! We had excellent communication with our host who was very accommodating. We were close to many beautiful hikes and waterfalls, and spent our evenings enjoying the cozy house. Gorgeous Location, Great Hiking, cute cottage style house

Beautiful property, as listed except dock was not in the water which limited our opportunities to fish, but the stand up paddle boards made up for the missing dock. We had a severe storm the first night which damaged the kayak, but host was easy to contact and very responsive. Beds were comfortable, space was great, host added an AC unit upstairs which was key to comfort the first 2 days which were very hot! Incredible hiking nearby, Tom Thumb ice cream was heaven in a cup, and putt putt close by. Most amazing sunset we’ve seen in a while.

Overall Thoughts

Great location and nice property. Disappointed that none of the summer amenities of the lake were available during my stay. I feel that I paid Summer rates and the dock, canoes and kayaks and other lakes amenities were inaccessible . We were unable to fish off the dock, and that was a disappointment.. Minor suggestions: install a functional drip coffee maker, and provide some kind of ability to hang clothes in the downstairs bedroom

Peter, thank you for your review. I would like to say that the kayaks, paddleboards, and all the outdoor games and other lake amenities are always kept secured in the garage. Before checking you were provided the code and access to it. In regards to the coffee machine, we clearly instruct that the coffee maker uses K-pods only. The drip pod is tricky to use and that is why we explain what kind of coffee to bring. I apologize that the dock was not up this year. It was the first and last time that this would happen. In the garage, I also keep fishing poles, we usually fish right off the sea wall. I'm sorry for the miscommunication and thank you for staying with us.

Great place!

This is a fabulous home. The house was very clean and the neighborhood was quiet. The sunsets were AMAZING. We stayed for almost a week with our family (there were 8 of us at one point) and there was plenty of room (and plenty of hot water for showers). The lake is shallow out front so we didn’t have much luck fishing from the property and you couldn’t just jump in and swim but it’s perfect for launching kayaks and paddle boards. The only possible negative I can think of is that the listing said there would be a dock in the water and there was none. Other than that- it was a perfect stay!

A fine place to stay

Our family of four stayed here for a week. The location of the home was perfect, just 15 minutes from the beautiful town of Skaneateles complete with boutique shops and dining. The beds, pillows and linens were comfortable. The living room furniture was lacking, not a great seating setup and no TV which was hard to see in the photos. There was a flat screen TV in the primary bedroom but it was balancing on the dresser and not secured in any way which should be taken into consideration for guests with young children. We had a constant issue with moths entering the house throughout the week somehow despite our diligence of keeping all doors and windows closed tightly. We were in constant communication with the homeowner with this concern who was very responsive and accommodating. I was disappointed that the dock that’s shown in the photos was not in place for our stay, that was definitely something we would have enjoyed and anticipated having. I’m so glad I brought my own coffee maker because the one in the house isn’t fully functioning. All in all the place was fine. A bit overpriced for what you get, but it does have a beautiful view of the lake which was our initial draw to choosing to stay here.

Thank you for your comment, Jay. We added drip and pod, coffee makers. We have two now to accommodate everyone. We also added a stand to the TV. The dock will be up in the summer of 2025. Also, it’s hard to control bugs by the lake. Usually, moths are never an issue there. I do pest control treatments monthly. However, when the lights are kept on at night and the windows or doors are not shut, you could end up with mosquitos, moths, or other insects in the house. I have a screen in every door and window to avoid this.

Pictures can be deceiving.. We were so hopeful about this being a beautiful and well stocked house with all the toys for kids and water play- not the case. 3 bikes in listing, only 1 was semi-functional. 2 paddles boards in listing, only 1 held air. Multiple blow up toys that also did not hold air. The air pumps provided for said toys and bikes run off car cigarette plugs only, so don’t drive a new car that lacks them or you can't pump anything up. The house is old…like, really old and much smaller than the pictures let on. The number of spiders and other bug in the house was alarming, and we kept all screens shut at all times so it wasn't from us. Cabinet doors hanging off hinges, ceiling panels split apart, blinds fall off their brackets if you touch them, none of the doors upstairs have a solid face. The upstairs closet toilet is so small that you can potty and brush your teeth without leaving the toilet. Walking around upstairs sounds like the floor is literally splitting apart it is so loud and squeaky, so don't move around after kids go to bed. There are 2 inadequate window AC units that are supposed to cool the whole house. The dock and fire pit were the nicest parts of the property. For the money we and other renters have paid, spend a little on making it worth the trip. Found a different house for next year that's bigger, newer, has more toys and is much less for the week.

Jay was a great guest. Unfortunately, when cleaning we noticed that a cabinet door was broken. He and I talked and we agreed that his father-in-law was going to fix the door between bookings. His father called the last night of my open window. He then stated he came over to the house to fix it. I was at the house most of the day and did not receive a call or message from them. I tried to accommodate Jay in fixing the door but he did not reply to my last message and communication was not good. I'm sorry for the inconvenience Jay. It was not my intention for this to happen.
